The WWE appear to be realizing that to get someone that fans will want to see , thier gonna have to pay a sh-tload of money. Joey Styles is confirmed to work this weeks RAW and the 11/13 show as well. Styles has said a big deal is the only way and it appears the company maybe headed into that direction to pay him!
So now we'll see Joey Styles annouce RAW. That is what the company has wanted for 4 years and it seems with Jim Ross's contract winding down they appear to be moving towards it.
Edit:
It appears Joey also worked the Taboo Tuesday PPV as well. Reports are that was a tryout to see how well he works. The RAW shows appear to be a huge tryout for the former voice of ECW! :D

This is great news.I loved his commentary on ECW.If JR is gone for good then I'd rather see Joey Styles take over his position then the Coach. The Coach makes Mike Tenay look good.

I can see Mick Foley bringing Styles out on RAW. Thats a way to get him over. Fans will love it...and I can see him and Lawler doing very well togethor. Joey is a straight play by play man. He won't kiss ass. He'll be very honest.
Vince is obviously doing backflips right now because he's gotten the guy that he's always wanted since 1999. Styles agreeing to do this for the right price is just what the company needs. They've lost Austin and Christian and this has to be a good faith gesture to older fans.

Joey overhypes his own product at the behest of his bosses like any other announcer. That's his job, to say what the guy in his ear is telling him to say. That's what he did in ECW when he shilled any passable match and any high spot with his trademark obnoxious "OH.MY GOD."
I like Joey mostly but his overselling bothers me more than a lot of other announcers. At least with JR you could sort of tell when he was really unhappy with something going on in front of me.

And JR orgasming whenever a big muscle guy or Austin hit anything resembling an actual move didn't constitute overselling?
Styles will call the action, such as it is, in a bad match, but there is a marked difference in how he does that, to how entusiastic he is with good ones, like Tuesday's cage match.

Exacto mondo! Joey would also tell the truth. If a match sucked he would tell fans in ECW: " Ok, this match isn't setting anyone on fire as far as workrate goes. But look at those 2 guys ? What did you expect ? " *
* I believe this was said about Axl Rotten vs Ian Rotten. Thier matches were basic bloodshed. There was nothing else there really.

And yet Ross who was at his peak from the late 80's to the late 90's is fading. Styles is the GUY now. He's the MAN. The 1# Annoucer that everyone agrees will make fans follow a match just like Ross followed Gorrilla Monsoon and Lawler replacing Bobby Heenan. Time marches on....

Hell, I'm actual looking forward to RAW now, just to hear Joey.
Yes, Joey does listen to the voice in the headset, but he does it his way and doesn't treat the fans like idiots. Plus, him and Easy E on the same show? That could be f-ing hilarious.

JR's lost a step, sure and Styles is the only respectable replacement. Tenay's got the knowledge but he's boring. There really isn't anyone else worth mentioning. I just think the notion that Styles is some pure wrestling spirit who isn't going to do what his bosses tell him in the interest of being honest about the product he's shilling is comical, especially given that the #1 gripe against him has always been his tendency to oversell events and matches.

He sure as hell didn't say what the suits told him to, and the one time they told him to do something different he made damn sure the fans knew it wasn't his idea. ("Ladies and gentlemen I'm being told by the folks in back I can't say Balls, I'm sorry if I offended anyone by saying Balls.")
Remember, Joey isn't a full time wrestling guy, he's been in advertising for years, even during ECW's run he was still working his day job. He doesn't need WWE's job, and if he feels like it he can walk away, so I don't see him becoming the E's shill. He'll work the angles like he's supposed to, and I'm sure he'll play the baby, but he's gonna say what he feels like saying.

There's a guy who has a weekly column in the Winston-Salem Journal about wrestling, and in the most current one, he quotes Styles as saying it was a one-night thing and that we was going back to his advertising job in Atlanta.
Wasn't styles the guy who wouldn't go too WWE, not because of a problem with the company, but because of a sense of loyalty to where he was?
Oram i thinking of someone else?
In any event, i will never fault a guy for taking more money, and more exposure.

The deal right now is a few RAW's right now. Its a basic tryout to get fans into Joey Styles and see if they can sell him as the annoucer to follow Ross. Ross's deal ends in 2006 and thier seriously gonna replace him at some point. Joey's old gripes were this:
1.He Knows what he's talking about: Styles nearly leaped to the company in 2001 when ECW went down. In meetings Kevin Dunn treated Joey Styles like he was some new kid who started annoucing and Joey claims he doesn't work that way. Styles has been annoucing by himself for nearly a decade at that point so he sure as hell didn't need Kevin Dunn to treat him like sh-t.
Part of the reason he backed off from signing then.
2. Ownership of his name: Styles ( or his real name) created his image of Joey Styles and felt he owned his name, trademarks and whatever else he wanted. Only recently has he relaxed on letting the WWE use his name, image and charactor on TV DVD's. Styles claims that a contract that was offered had the company owning the Joey Styles name and charactor and that didn't sell to him at all.
Odds are both issues were resolved and a deal could happen that will see Styles get the offer he has wanted. Again...."Never Say Never " in this business. Joey Styles is proof positive about this right now.
