its been established that clark will lose someone very close to him. but who will it be? personally iv got my bets on Jonathan kent because in superman his dad dies so its kind of obvious that he might be the one to kick the bucket. but they might have thought of that and dicided to give it a different twist to keep us on our toes. what do you guys think?

They should screw with us all, and have young DOOMSDAY show up and kill young Clark.

I'd be shocked if they killed anyone other than Chloe. It's almost a given.

It will be Lionel and Johnathan. They plot device of both Clark and Lex losing the father figures in their lives. Lex now fully controls LexCorp. and Clark steps closer to being a man in his own right.

How is Lionel "close" to Clark?

HA! I forgot the dog's been MIA for awhile now. Since the finale or premiere, right?
Chloe is almost certainly a given, as she's new to the mythology and would usurp Lois' future role if she survived. Her death, however, could be the final kick in the pants to Lois to settle on journalism, as she's already proven to have a knack for investigative reporting. I've seen the theory floated a lot that Lois will die and Chloe will just assume her name as she did in an early Daily Planet article; that, I think, is going WAY beyond putting their own spin on the Superman story.
Despite movie connections like the crystalline fortress, Stamp's voice, and the Williams' score popping up, I doubt they'll kill off Jonathan, especially since they've had several chances to do so since the end of season 2 with his deal with Jor-El & various other crises. The comics hold his parents both are still alive; I fear if they kill Pa Kent off in the show, that'll translate to some mucky-muck at DC or WB demanding 20-years-older Pa get offed in the book, and that's the kinda bogus synergy we DON'T need.

At the beginning of the season the WB promos said this was the "final" season of Smallville. If that is so, then Jonathan will probably die to inspire Clark to go to Metropolis and become Superman -- just like the original movie.
If there is going to be another season, probably Lionel or Lex will die -- to be ressurected into another body just the way John Byrne did in the comics -- something like that. When Lionel had cancer, I thought that was where the story was going, but it turned out to be another false jeopardy thing such as all the memory loss resolutions.
However, since the writers here have not been too stellar, they will probably kill off Chloe senselessly and meaninglessly ala Tasha Yar in Star Trek: TNG.
The best characters they have developed are the new characters such as Chloe and Alicia. Alicia was killed off, and probably so will Chloe simply because the pattern of mediocre writing we see on this show demands it.
Whatever they do, I hope they get on with it. The story arcs progress so slowly if at all. Get on with it please! Tell the story if you have one.

How is Lionel "close" to Clark?
Lionel is the channeller of Jor-El, Clark's real father.

...and. How does that exactly make close to Lionel. They're not best buds. They're not hanging out kicking back a few.
How would Lionel's death even remotely affect Clark?

Lionel's death would affect Clark, in that he's been the conduit, of late, for Jor-el to directly interact with his son. I don't think we've seen the last of it. Also, in terms of the show, Lex can't be completely bad, if his much worse father is still in the picture. Lex is darkening, but I don't think TPTB intend to "turn" him completely until the series is ending.
Chloe, whom I love, is the character who's a complete fabrication for the show. As such, she's the one who can, and thematically, almost needs to die, to move the characters forward. Whatever happens to her, and I'm certain something will, I think it'll be the catalyst that re-focuses Lois and Clark on investigative journalism which is, of couse, Chloe's passion.

I'm thinking that Lex kills Lionel as part of his final phase of "crossing over to the dark side." (Which may or may not fulfill Jor-El's "prophecy" but I bet it happens either way.)

I think Lionel will die before the show is over, but I don't think he will be the death that Jor-El referred too.
Even if it were Lionel I don't think his death would end Jor-El's involvement with Clark at all. The writer's would simply whip up another way for him to contact Clark.

Also, just because a character dies, doesn't necessarily mean they're off the show. Or even that they stay dead.

rumor is that they will kill the person in january on smallvilles 100th episode

actually i think the worst part on this is that the writters on the show know that there are people like us trying to figure it out and are going to mess with us for the next two monthes on every episode so that we think the persons gonna die but then dont

Didn't Loeb say they planned Smallville to be a 5 season show.
Anyways I don't think it will be Chloe. Just too obvious, and not surprising at all. The writers will probably surprise us.

Agreed.
Chloe will die...And it will be her fault too, but Clark will feel guilty when she dies.

know what would be funny. if lionel dies and thats who jor el was referring to.
Clark: so uh... lionels dead now is that it?
Jor El: yeah
Clark: so you mean you killed lionel in order to give me life?
Jor El: yup
Clark: Sweet!

Well DC did buy the rights for Cholie charcters
so they may not kill her
my bets on Jon
one the movie coming out
two superman all star Pa Kent dead
third..nothing say Lex cant kill Lionel later on in the season..season still young.
I think I'll be Jonathan and/or Lionel.
Loeb mentioned in one of the DVD sets that they all liked Jonathan and Martha a lot but almost every incarnation they end up dying and Clark is alone. I guess he's forgotten about those Post Crisis stories he's writen.
I really hope Jonathan and Martha survive but I get the feeling they both won't
Chloe is a possibility but I think Chloe's death will be nearly at the end of the series. I also think if she dies Lex will be involved. She'll find out something damaging about him. He'll kill her. Clark and Lois will know it but will have no way to prove it.
Or... Chloe survives the series. Back in Season 3 Chloe finds out her mother had a mental illness and its hereditary. They could end the series with Chloe in a mental instituition.
There then could be a story in current DC comics where we find out Lois cousin went to school with Clark and they'd be visiting her on a weekly basis. The story could start with the doctor giving them a call that they've made breakthru in helping her. Chloe is then reintroduced as an adult in current DC comics.
I'm guessing death is more likely though. She'll be the catalyst that finally motivates Clark and Lois.

I Voted Chloe becuse just about every other charcter that they created for the show has died. Also Jor-El told Clark that it was "someone that he loved" or was it "someone that loves him" either way even tho he's toast too Lionel just don't fit the bill as a loved one. Also whouldn't having her try on those angel wings be a foreshadowing her fate. DC proablly copywright her character to prevent other companies from using her.
As for Jonathan dieing in the movie if I remeber right at that time in the comics the Kents were already dead and has been for some time. I think it was the Byrne revamp in the mid 80's that bought them back to life in the present.
Or they can thow us a real cruveball and kill off "Uncle Jack" ;)

You just spin the earth around backwards and go back in time to save them.
UGH.....
So Clark should get really chummy with Lex or Lionel, Like BFF kind of nonsense.. and then Die so when Jor-El brings him back he'll take one of them..

I think Chloe's death will be a part of, if not the catalyst which causes him to don the costume. It'll probably be something where he hesitates to save her, because he's going to be exposed in doing so. She dies as a result, and he decides he needs to come up with a way to do what needs to be done, while protecting his private life, and those whom he loves.

Loeb would have liked it to be a 5 season show from a creative standpoint, but Warner Brothers ultimately has the decision. Since the show is getting good ratings, they will keep it.

Also, witht the exception of cable shows and Babylon 5, TV shows are usually contracted for 7 years. Given the ratings, I think we'll see @ least 2 more.
kalorama

There's really no standard contract length for a network show. In fact, some shows are renewed by networks on a yearly basis. It's pretty much a case-by-case situation.
How much longer Smallville goes on will depend, in large part, on when Welling's contract is up and whether he wants to sign a new one after that.

i know this may sound a bit twisted, but i am rooting for Lana in this poll. ok, check this out...Lex may not have any concrete evidence about Clarks abilities, but i think he still believes he is much more than ordinary. i am also convinced that Lex is head over heels in love with Lana. her death could work one of two ways:
1. Lana dies by a third party or something and Lex blames Clark for not saving her. possibly he didn't/couldn't save her because he hesitated on revealing himself
2. Lex kills Lanna either accidently, as a trap for Clark, or maybe she gets possesed again and it's self defense
either way, i think that Lana could be the final straw in driving a wedge between Lex and Clark for good, and sealing it with hatred. it would also take the "love of Clarks life" out of the picture and could move him towards Lois. they have already been hinting here and there that they care about each other (even if they don't know it yet).
that being said, i don't think they have the balls to do a story like that and kill off the "sweetheart" of the show, so it will probably be Chloe or Jonathan.

They could have the Death... Be the Death of the old clark Kent. Naieve farmboy who wants to be normal. Leaving the "Birth" of the new Clark Kent. Knows his path and place in the world. knows what he has to do yadda ydda yadda.
Or they could kill Braniac. Since Clark and the Prof have been pretty chummy.
I smell cop-out death.. Like Anya from the buffy Finale, the death may leave everyone saying.. "So?"

When they say "Somebody Dies", I don't believe they are speaking metaphorically. That would be a bigger cop out than bringing Pete back just to kill him off.

There is a certain logic to Chloe being the one to die.
When Lois was borught into the show, a big deal was made about how she had no interest in journalism. Sine then, however, we've seen that she's a natural busybody with a tendency to get into people's business, but that she's also kind of flighty and unfocused. The only time she showed any real direction was when she was investigating Chloe's previous "death."
If Chloe dies (for real) under mysterious circumstances that somehow ties into her work at the Planet, with connections to the ongoing mysteries surrounding both Clark and Lex, how would Lois react? By trying to find out what happened, possibly to the point of getting a job at the Planet and making finding out the truth about Clark and Lex her personal obsession.
Chloe's death could could be the trigger that moves Lois in the direction of becoming the character everyone's familiar with from the Superman mythos.

Very well thought out and logical. And my only reaction is...
NOOOOOO!!!! PLEASE DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN, NOT CHLOE!!!
Then where are we going to get our Allison Mack fix?
