View Full Version : Love & Rockets buy guide
I've decided to spend some money in Love & Rockets.
Should I buy the trades or just skip them and go for the Locas + Palomar books?

Well, it depends. Many consider LOCAS and PALOMAR to be the best of the best--the bits that define the series.
Now, if you buy PALOMAR, and want more, Fantagraphics has a handy guide (http://www.fantagraphics.com/blog/archive/2005_08_01_fantagraphics_archive.html#112380494268 199846) for where to go if you liked it. They have the same further reading guide (http://www.fantagraphics.com/blog/archive/2005_08_01_fantagraphics_archive.html#112380249335 003546) for people starting with LOCAS.
From a financial point of view, Palomar and Locas would not cost me as much as buying the separate trades. Still, it's a weird way of releasing the series.

I don't know. I don't think either LOCAS or PALOMAR are really geared towards direct market distribution--I think those collections are more for the bookstore audience, and in that way, it makes sense. There's some crazy stuff in LOVE AND ROCKETS that really embraces the funky side of the form, but that might not appeal to the casual buyer. Plus, by collecting them that way, it feels like it's one thing--you don't have to read more than LOCAS or PALOMAR to understand what's going on in either.

It would be more expensive to buy the trades but it would give a better taste of the development of the series as a whole.
Do you have all the trades?
BTW, when you say direct market you mean comic book stores?
