IMO Spider-Man is the coolest and greatest super hero of all time, but all i ever hear nowa days is "batman rules, hes so cool... blah blah blah!" Ok so Batman is a crafty shady character and he can be cool.... but hes got no powers and he lives in a fantasy. Batman will never measure up to Spider-Man. Im shocked to here if anyone actually likes spiderman since hardly anyone i know does, they say hes lame and childish. I just cant understand it myself. But then again im the only person i know whos interested in comics. What does everyone else actually think of spidey? And where is all this bad rep coming from? I blame it on the childrens merchandise, spider-man is clearly not a childs comic. there are plenty of deaths, crime, witty jokes and complicated stroy lines. its not childs play.

Hi.
Why not read through some of the threads in the Spiderman forum, to start. See what the people who read the comic book actually think. Might give you a little more perspective.

But no, heīs not childish. Ask them why they think so and then have a debate about it.
But the first thing you should see on this board is this thread http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=60978
After youīve read through that you can just say your own opinion on why you like Spider-man. I think it will mirror that of other fans on this board. But I think you should read the above mentioned thread first. Itīs not estential but it shows why Spider-man is the greatest comicbook hero ever.

Mcfarlenes Spidy was cool. DeMatteis/Buscema's Spidy was cool. With Romita Jr drawing you may get a spark of brilliance every now and again. But yeah, other then that lame-o

I'm not really interested in the Batman comics but I loved the 90's animated series of Batman. Batman may be popular but I doubt he's as popular as Spider-Man. Finally welcome to the forums Venoman

Spider-Man is cool and all, but Batman is way more popular than Spidey. He's been around longer and has had way more exposure.

I guess your right Murrocko. Batman did win the most popular superhero of all time contest on IGN a while back. To me though Spidey will always be better than the dark knight.

Those two, along with Stupidman...eh...Superman ALWAYS war back and forth about who's the most popular superhero. The last thing I saw was Top 10 greatest super heroes of all time television sho...and Spiderman was numero uno while Batman was 2nd place.
In my opinion, a lot of people are hooked on the "Batman Begins" fad, probably because it was a far supieror movie to the last two Batman films...but if folks would just sit back for a second and really LOOK at the film, they're going to realize it really wasn't that good. From the lame "Everyone in the universe was ACTUALLY behind the deaths of the Waynes" plot to the hideous one on one Batman vs. "X" fights, in a few years, this film won't even merit recognition.

AH! HA! HA! HA! Stupidman good one mate. Why didn't I think of that one.
I'm also glad to hear that Spidey beat the Dark Knight as favourite in something for once. As for "Batman Begins", I haven't seen the movie and quite frankly I don't really don't care if I see it or not as I think they're just repeating through the whole Batman saga again trying to make it like the first two Batman films. Can't they just move on and make a Batman Beyond movie. That would be so much cooler to see.

The way things happen in the movie does not follow the way things happen in any other movie. Cheek it out, itīs pretty good.
2. Theyīve already done a Batman Beyond movie. Itīs called Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. It easily beats any other Batman movie.

Thanks for the advice Dark Soul # 7. I still have my doubts but maybe I'll rent it on DVD when I have time. I don't mean the astonishing animated Batman Beyond movie, I mean a live action Batman Beyond movie.

AH! HA! HA! HA! Stupidman good one mate. Why didn't I think of that one.You actually found that remotely clever in anyway?
Ok Venoman, as big a Spidey fan I am, I'm willingly to admit that Batman is far more popular among comic book fans and the general public. As for movies, Spider-Man 2 sucked, Burtons "Batman" movie was better than that one, a whole train full of people see who he is and no one take a picture or anything, come on you know that's B.S especially in N.Y, MJ flip floppin from man to man and all that damn CGI. I will admit Spider-Man was good though.
Venoman, you say because Batman has no powers he could never measure up to Spider-Man, but wouldn't that mean he surpasses him? Batman does so much with so little, do you think Peter would actually be out there if he had no powers from the get go and lets say he loses his powers for good or never had them, would you still think so highly of him? Batman does pretty much everything Spidey does, without powers, in a more corrupt city, and a possible more powerful rouge gallery.
To not like him in one thing, but to trash him when you clearly don't know anything or close to nothing about him or judge solely on having powers or not doesn't really say much about you when it comes to comics IMHO. Now quiet or papa spank

That's why Batman won the IGN Best Superhero Of All Time voting contest because of what you said about how Batman can cope with no super powers and deal with more derranged villians and outsmart them. I've got nothing against Batman I just don't find his comics interesting enough as Spider-Man's. In fact I don't find any DC comics interesting at all. I'm more comfortabe with Marvel comics. If it wasn't for the legendary Batman 90's animated series I wouldn't like Batman as much as I do now. But when it comes to Spider-Man vs Batman I'm always gonna be backing Spidey's corner every time because he's my most favourite super hero of all time. Spider-Man is also the first super hero ever that I heard about back when I was still a baby. As for why I thought Stupidman as in Superman was funny, that's another story my friend. Finally I don't know what issue it was but Try and find a "What If" comic series in the late 90's. One issue sees how Peter can be a super hero without his powers.

You know that my post was directed towards that new Venom guy, right? Anyway, I'll be sure to check out that What if if I come across it, there was also a Powerless mini, but that's beside the point. I was saying the whole power thing because he pretty much said more or less he didn't like Batman because he was powerless, I'm not saying that's his only reason though, so I wanted to know if he would still care about a powerless Spidey with I guess only a spider webs and what little fighting skill he has.

...Batmans a Veteran..Spidermans a young Gunna
Their both dope..
The only difference is Batman would kick Spidermans ass..no seriously,Spidey has superhuman strength and bullshit but yet he suffers defeat so damn often..but thats why he's the most popular character in the Marvel Universe Today.Cuz hes so-down-to-earth.

I think it has less to do with being cool, and more with how much you connect to the character.
A lot of people connect with Spidey more because he is much more human. So while Batdick has all the nifty gadgets, and big-ass car, and lots of money, it's good-old Petey that the average person feels closer to at the end of the day.
And Batman's a shmuck.... which helps.

I just wanted to know what everyone thought about spidey and now im reasured that hes still considered the coolest. I think Batman appeals to alot of people who dont read comics often. Alot of these "random" people that try purposefully to be random all wear stripey socks and dye their hair crazy colours. They all seem to like Batman but im sure if they ever actually tried to read a Batman comic theyd be bored within seconds. I have no problem with Batman Murrocko, he was my childhood hero, i had a Batman costume which i used to live in pretending to be Batman. But now that ive grown up ive some how ironically come to favour what many consider to be the more childish superhero (not my personal opinon) spider-man. I respect batman for being so good at crime fighting without any powers, but the thing is... thats why i love comics and superheros... the powers. I mean i dont really see the excitement in a millionaire fighting crime with gadgets... not compared to a teenager swinging around newyork city climbing "sheer" walls. Ill always prefer marvel to DC because besides the better and more interesting storylines they always have better powers and super villains. Batman is more of a cult character. i do like Batman, his dark character can make for interesting reading... but i hardly ever read DC comics... maybie i should start.
I wasnt trashing batman i was just saying that compared to spiderman hes just dosnt do it for me.
i think spiderman 2 was kinda crap to.... not as good as the first film. But its still a good watch if your a fan.

Spider-Man is a good character sure but unlike Wolverine he's very popular with child espically over here my little cousins love Spider-Man I've seen childred dressed as Spider-Man at Halloween.
Apart from the Marvel Adventures is it called, I don't view Spidey as very child friendly. I don't mean he swears at children I mean his stories are'nt exactly for children. I'll give an example a couple about some months after the second spider-man movie my little cousin who love spidey grabbed one of my comics and ran off to read it. His mother took it off him before he could look at the pictures and was'nt exactly happy at the story itself.
At this point I'll like to point out the story in question is Masques when an demonic hobgoblin tries to turn a boy called 'Adam' into an demon like him and Ghost Rider comes to 'sort' him out.
Point is most of the stories are so not for children. Some people think he's uncool becase they see him as very child friendly even though most of the stories he is in are the opposite of that.
Venoman
11-09-2005, 10:17 AM
yeah thats the main reason people think hes uncool... because children like him... but the original marvel made comics have never been intended for children, always for teens and adults and since im a teen theres nothing wrong with it! and as for modern spiderman... you couldnt get any further away from children
Colossus

Spidey is the coolest character in comics, because he is the biggest dork in comics. (True fans of the Lee/Ditko era will get what I mean)
I think children like him because he has the best super-hero coustume ever.
Venoman
11-09-2005, 02:12 PM
he was a dork yes... but i think thats pretty obvious man... he was a science nerd with apparently no friends... although he was good with the ladies... i think it brings hope for all the science nerds in the world.... visit more open radioactive gamma tests... you never know, you might get some in your eyes, it might explode or you might even get bitten by a radioactive spider...
