I still say that Joey and Ares here bear a slight resemblance to Jarek and Koj from TELLOS...and that's fine with me! Gorgeous job on this, Mike, and Jack complements you very nicely.

Volume 1 is. If you can't find it at the local comic shop, perhaps the Runemaster Studios Store (http://www.runemasterstudios.com/store.php) has a few copies.

Looks sweet.

Can't wait to see "the saga" continue . . .

And I'd love to see Ringo on another all-ages fantasy genre. I think Mike's style is perfect for it, and his backgrounds and renderings are way under-rated (in other words they rock).

I'll eventually get back to doing something in that genre, Winslow. Whether it's more TELLOS work or something I create 100% on my own... I love fantasy and the way it connects with a kid's growing sense of wonder and imagination. And that kind of thing helps keep ME young, at least inside. With all the dire things that reality thrusts on us in every day life, the escape of an engrossing all-ages fantasy story is just what the doctor ordered...!

Will do! Actually, I haven't been on Fanboy Radio in awhile (been busy working on other stuff), but I really need to! Scott's the greatest guy.

Once again, love the cover. You're one of the few comic book artists I've seen who is really able to draw children and do it well.

Ah!
This is the worst LTB cover ever!
:D

Whether it's more TELLOS work or something I create 100% on my own...

Hey, you just remember who you need to e-mail *COUGHMEDAMMITCOUGH* when you hopefully start on your creator owned project!
That's been in the back of my mind ever since you mentioned the possibility of something like that back at Randy's cookout.

Until then, I'm going to continue diggin' on these SM:TO variant covers.
Spider-Ham! How freakin' cool is that?
These are not the worst Spidey covers ever!

The only thing flyin' around here are the chilli bombs Robert is attacking me with in the studio.
It's like the guy thinks that just because it's his house, he can stink as much as he wants... sheesh.
They should send this guy into enemy territory to clear a site.

I agree, Mike. More people need to post here!
I think I just saw a tumble weed in here!
...of course, that could have been Robert's belly button lint.
...or maybe it's because they know if they come here, they'll find the worst art ever!

Just do what Clarisse Starling did in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, Val, and put Vick's Vapor Rub (or whatever that stuff is she put under her nose) and you won't smell Kirkman's air buscuits any more.

I've been to dinner with Robert enough times to see what kind of things he eats. I can imagine his emissions must be quite toxic... :p

I tried to bring over a lot of girls, but then I realized this is comics and I was on a snipe hunt... especially for girls who will talk to me.

So then I tried guys. But I couldn't find any... I think they were out trying to find girls too.

Whoa, Mike Wieringo talked to me, thats awesome :D

It's great you take time to recognize the little people Mike

I'm a huge marvel card collector, I have over 10,000, and I really liked your sketchagraphs...the only one i'm missing is the extremly rare and hard to find Spider-man one that you could redeem for one of one hundred cards hand signed by you, and Stan the man Lee! I'd kill for one of those lol

Mike Wieringo
01-10-2006, 01:44 PM
In all the time since I did those cards, I've only had one person come up to me at a con and show me one of those.....

Heck-- I'd like one of them myself.

They're rare indeed..! :D

Quicksilver
01-10-2006, 04:39 PM
They didn't let you keep one? That doesn't seem fair lol you drew it after all! I wish I had at least one of the sketchagraphs signed because that'd be the highlight of my collection :D

I found this forum through your site, and I'm hoping it'll pick up, too.

I just want to add that because of your art I've rediscovered my love of drawing (especially comic book characters). :) I posted a picture of yours I replicated in marker somewhere in the forum; sorry to say I didn't do it any justice.

Okay, that's all I have to say for now. Thanks for your time. :o

Mike Wieringo
01-11-2006, 08:24 PM
Well, thanks, Rae...!

It's incredibly gratifying to hear something like that! I'm thrilled that my work had any kind of affect on you-- but especially in getting you to start drawing again. That's just the BEST....! :D

Hi Mike,

Didn't realize you had a forum over here. I've been following the blog on your website, but I guess I should have checked those links.

Any idea what conventions you'll be attending this year?

Brian.

I'll guess I'll join the fray in here (I have been lurking here for some time, just to lazy to register :D ).

Been 'following' your work since I discovered it on Sensational Spider-Man some time back (any chance of a Hornet-sketch in the blog  ) Really love your style, even got an original hanging on my wall next to a Bone-litho (I don't care what people say, comic art makes great decorations).
Just wonder if I can ask you a question: how has it been working with three different writers on the same story? Is it any different than 'regular' when you only work with one?

Sorry for coming off as a regular comic book geek, but then again that's what I am :D

Keep up the good work!

Mike Wieringo

Hey, Ronnie... welcome to the forum!

Working with 3 different writers..... well, I could certainly tell the difference in their styles. Peter's script was the most 'traditional' of them all... Hudlin's was more like a movie script with more emphasis on clever dialogue and not so much on heavy plot... and JMS's script was more... philosophical, I guess. It was heavy on emotional content... but not so much on plot. Of course, it was pretty jarring to draw them anyway, since it was only every third part of the crossover. That's the main thing I didn't like about it. All three writers had their own strengths and weaknesses... but it was all pretty standard.

I'm getting older. I started reading this thread, and completely forgot what it was all about by the time I got to post. Frankly, I blame Robert Kirkman. Not for any real REASON... just because it's the easiest way to go.

All seriousness aside, have you two ever worked on anything together, Mike? If not, I think an arc on MARVEL TEAM-UP would be a perfect pairing.

That's a good question. I'm quite sad about you not being at the NY Comic-Con. :(

Mike Wieringo
02-04-2006, 11:12 AM
I completely missed the original question..... :o

I'm going to be at MEGA-CON in Orlando, FL (which is happening the same weekend as that NYC show, Rae) this month. Other than that, I'm scheduled to be at HEROES CON in Charlotte, NC this July. But I'm actually thinking about skipping it for the first time since I started attending in 1985. I think I'm beginning to experience 'HEROES CON burnout'.

And I'm supposed to be at CAPE in Texas during the FCBD weekend. But I have to see if my schedule is going to actually allow me to make that as well.

I'm really not much for going to shows, to be honest. It takes way too much time out of my schedule.

Too bad. I had originally asked about your con schedule in the hopes that you might be coming up for Wizard World Boston, but when that show was cancelled, the point became moot. I had started thinking about Heroes Con, but now that it looks like you're not going, and the hotel closest to the site is sold out of the special show rate, I might just wait another year and hit a show a little closer to home in '06.

Thanks for the heads up on Heroes.
