Happy 25th birthday, Jason. Alumni of the long-running "Friday the 13th" horror-flick series gathered at Universal Studios for closing night of the ScreamFest Horror Film Festival and a 25th-anniversary party celebrating all things Jason Voorhees that hockey mask-wearing, machete-wielding, mass-murdering central character of the 11 low-budget films.

"It's 25 years later, and it's wonderful," said series producer Sean S. Cunningham.

The Saturday night gathering also marked the unveiling of the sort of item usually reserved for a higher-brow Hollywood party: a glossy, lavishly illustrated, hardcover coffee-table book, "Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th," by entertainment reporter Peter M. Bracke.

With a young actress on his arm screaming, of course an actor in a Jason costume was treated to "Happy Birthday" sung by many of the performers who'd played Jason's victims.

After being asked to cut the first piece of his birthday cake, "Jason" whipped out his machete and hacked it to pieces, to the delight of dozens of cheering fans.

As alumni signed copies of Bracke's book, they reminisced about their work on the series.

"I was Jason's first victim," bubbled actress Bobbi Morgan, who appeared in the 1980 original "Friday the 13th," in which Camp Crystal Lake served as the setting for a slew of murders. "(I) had to jump out of the jeep, and run into the woods where it would be safe. And I ran, and (Jason) finally got me and he slit my throat. He got me! I never even made it to the camp."

Actress Diana Barrows appeared in "Friday the 13th VII: The New Blood" 17 years ago, and said she still gets fan response from all over the globe.

"I was in Poland two weeks ago, and I met these kids that love 'Friday the 13th,' and asked me for autographs," she said. "Fan mail from Japan. Fan mail from Australia. (I'm amazed by) the fact that it's so international."

ScreamFest's Rudy Scalese observed: "We love to hate Jason because he's one of those characters that everyone can connect with. In the beginning, at least, he was truly scary. But then he sort of became a little bit more of an icon people can cheer and root for, the same way you root for villains in one of the James Bond movies, or you clap for villains in one of those 'Fantastic Four' movies. Same thing."

And it seems Jason isn't done killing yet.

"Well, you know, it's no surprise they're actually planning another film," revealed author Bracke. "It's going to be another team-up film, with Freddy (Krueger of the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series) vs. Jason vs. Michael Myers (of the "Halloween" films), which makes sense. And then they're talking about remaking the first movie and starting all over

Exciting! I'm a sucker for Horror and these 3 franchises are faves... even if quality did decrease.

Y'know I really hope not. Although Micheal came first, he and Jason are essentially the same character in different masks. You got Freddy who once again will have to do all the talking and now 2! unstoppable killling machines lumbering around.

Just seems a little redundant to me...that and I was hoping for Ash this time.

Yeah , Michael Myers is not a good fit for Freddy vs Jason. There were talks in the past of a Michael Myers/Hellraiser crossover with the participation of Clive Barker & John Carpenter after the success of Freddy vs Jason but sadly those talks have died since.
Myers would just be a clone of Jason , the silent killing machine. Is there any hero type from horror movie franchise other than Ash ?! I would rather take Pinhead over Myers. At least Pinhead talks and he has his various cenobites with him.

I don't think Michael fits well with Freddy or Jason either, but mostly because Michael isn't as much a supernatural character. Especially if you only look at Halloweens 1, 2, 8 and 9, the Halloween lore is much more grounded, less fantastic, than the others.

I've heard there are already plans for yet another Halloween movie. I wish they would have just stopped after the second one. Originally Michael Myers was such a great character but now.....

They should just stick to Freddy vs. Jason 2. Maybe introduce a superpowered hero to fight them or something....Just have more naked chicks! The first one was a throwback in a few ways that I really enjoyed. Many of the horror movies nowadays actually try to scare people! Dammit, I want gore and naked chicks like all the 80's horror!

The Friday the 13th movies are more known for its graduitous nudity and gore , NOES movies tends to be a bit more creative in its kills and almost no nudity (except for part 3).
Which was why the contrast was so fascinating to watch in Freddy vs Jason. Freddy likes to taunt and play with his prey in their dreams , Jason just goes for the straight kill.

I certainly hope part 2 gets made , i love both sets of horror franchises. :D

The new Halloween movie is going to be called Halloween:Retribution, its up on IMDB.

I dont really think that Michael Myers fits in with Freddy or Jason but I do want him to get his own movie where he fights another horror figure. Even if they did a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael I would go and see it.

Ya know I really do not get why people say that putting two silent killers (Myers and Jason) is boring. The guys have NEVER spoke and they don't speak in their kills. The Predator and Alien didn't speak when they fought. Why do these guys have to talk to have a throwdown? The action of them tearing each other to shreds would be entertaining enough for me. I've never understood why people say that...

But yeah I would love to see Myers in FvJ 2. Hell, IMO the real Myers died at the end of Halloween 2. They have already ruined the character in parts 5, 6 and 8, so why not put him in a movie as fun as FvJ 2? At least it wouldn't be adding stupid stuff about the character like every sequel tries to do.

The thing is , Myers and Jason are too similiar in characters , there's no contrast , no distinct traits like what made Freddy and Jason pairing so different and dynamic. Give them someone else that are different from them , someone like Ash or Pinhead or even Tallman or whatever.
