Hello I have a question for you knowlegable people here...someone I know has a question about a 3D comic from the fifties...here is what he asked...

I've been trying to remember the name of a comic book hero who had his own book which was published in 3D. You know of which I speak -- red, blue and green artwork which came alive with the assistance of the inserted plastic glasses.
The character was a young man, a detective or adventurer of some kind, who always wore a flat topped straw hat (boater?), a business suit and shirt and tie.
In some stories I remember flying but I also recall vehicles. Dapper Dan? Don?
Darned if I can remember! I can picture this guy but can't come up with a name. I've tried for years. There couldn't have been very many 3D comic books. This is driving me crazy!!

Anyone have any suggestions on what this comic is?

All I can think of is Captain 3-D but I am not sure if that meets your description. It was a one-shot published by Harvey in 1953. Here's Comics Database link - http://comics.org/details.lasso?id=10952.

AC Comics reprinted some of the stories from that one-shot; & also published stories that were intended for the never-published 2nd issue!

I just took a look at the 3-D section in the Photo Journal, and I didn't see anything that looked quite right. The closest I could get was these. (http://www.comics.org/covers.lasso?SeriesID=970)

For some reason, the thought popped into my head - could this be a non-US comic that he's searching for? British maybe?

Venoman - your comments are unnecessary. If you don't have anything to add, no one is forcing you to read this forum.

I'm bringing Captain 3-D back into the contenders ring because there are elements of Captain 3D that seem to come close to the vague memories that you are mentioning.

There is flying involved, there is a young adventurer name Danny Davis and he brings Captain 3D to life by reading about him in a 3D comic book (too bad they didn't use an infinity cover to complete the circle).

It may not be what are remembering, or it may be that the elements are mixing around. Memory, especially vague ones from our youth can play interesting tricks. Only you can determine that.

It seems to be the best memory he had that he wore a straw hat...I gave him those links you guys gave me and he's preaty sure those aren't it...he says it may have been even a non US book...I was thinking mabey Austrailian perhaps? It's definatly in english but so far his questions havn't been all satisfied...
It's ok if you don't know...but does anyone know of a 3D comic from another country that matches this discription? or mabey a search engine that locates comics for you?
