Please explain to me why everyone seems to hate the Hulk movie?!? I thought it was awesome, but apparently, I'm wrong. The only thing I hated about it was Bruce's dad being the Absorbing Man.

I liked it. The real problem was that about a half hour should have been cut out of the beginning. Man was that boring. But after we got done with the whiny bruce banner crap it was all good.

You're not wrong; some liked it, some hated it. (And if you're an Ang Lee worshiper, you were contractually obligated to worship it, possibly without bothering to see it.)
Personally, I thought it was breathtakingly dull and had little resemblance to the comic-book Hulk, using NONE of the available themes ("the beast within," "misunderstood monster," "adult vs. child," etc.). But that's just me. If you liked it, it was good for you.

It was 45 minutes! That's LESS time than it takes to get Clark Kent into the tights in the original Reeve Superman, and roughly the same as Spider-Man.

Yea, but superman was, um...what do you call it...oh yeah:interesting. I liked the "hulk smash" parts, but the way they got to "hulk smash" was all wrong and too long. This movie could have been better, or atleast more widely appealing if that beginning didnt suck.

Which goes to show it was less about how much time he spent as the Hulk, and more about what was done with it. Because even with Otis, I don't think anyone is going to say that Hulk was better than the original Superman. Hell, everything up to Clark rescuing Lois from the copter was probably the best part of the movie.
You know what I think a lot of the problem is? No matter how you do it, Hulk is kind of a depressing story. Man losing his humanity. And that's from the Stan and Jack stuff. But the Hulk Smash stuff that was in there wasn't really cathartic enough to take away from the downer of a story.

True, but the complaint ABOUT the time bug me because of the fairly standard nature of that in the genre. (It's about the same in Begins for Bale, right?)
I enjoyed the movie, I'm pretty sure the Daredevil DC is better, but it's enjoyable in a certain mood.

When was the last time you read a Hulk comic?

The difference being that instead of watching these characters grow from weak to strong, learning, gaining the abilities and insights that would turn them from man to legend, we get to see a guy obsess over a medical ray. Which isn't to say that's bad, but harder to engage an audience with. I mean, with Superman, you get Krypton meets Capra for the first chunk. Spidey, you've got the trials and tribulations of Peter Parker, one of the most relatable characters in fiction, till he puts on the mask. Batman, you've got badass ninja action. Hulk, you've got Talbot being a dick and threatening to steal the chick Bruce isn't even dating away. It doesn't meld well with the Hulk Smash.

I liked it, but that's because I expected a psychological meditation on how parents can srew up their kids. If you wanted SSS (standard super-hero stuff), then you probably didn't like it.

Bad scripting with awesome visuals sums up the HULK movie.

I loved it. Great movie, with great acting and *gasp* a story! Yes yes I know that the majority of modern movie-goers can't be bothered to watch a movie with an actual plot.

I can understand some people's complaints though.

and I was glad I didn't pay 8 bucks a head to see it. That was a movie that screamed "wait for video" to me

I thought it was interesting enough, the slow parts didn't get to me because it was evolving like a sci-fi movie. But I always thought of the Hulk more as a Horror book than Sci-Fi, although Banner is very much the mad(dened)scientist, Stan was trying to emulate Jeckle&Hyde, which was science based too (contradicting myself, I guess :) )
But honestly the ending in South America with Banner doing the missionary thing and about to release the beast on those scum-bag banditos? That made the movie for me. I thought, 'cool, in the sequel we're going to get Banner hiding from the world he's forced to save'.
Oh, the final battle between he and his pappy was a bit difficult to make out and anticlimatic. But I don't think it ruined the film at all. I loved the 'comic book editing', too.

i actually saw it for the first time the other night as well on usa (although i didn't watch the whole thing). i didn't think it was too bad. the hulk looked okay in action. i don't think i'd watch it again, but from what i saw it didn't seem like the bomb people made it out to be around here a few years back.

I thought it was a good movie. I think most who said the story was bad are saying it was bad because it wasn't the story they wanted to see. I think if a sequel were made they'd like it better because this orgin that didn't follow the orginal would be out of the way and they wouldn't have to sit through the set up.

I was very disappointed.
I was literally jumping in my chair with glee after seeing the Super Bowl promo ad for it.
So much action in 30 seconds! Hulk jumping. Hulk spinning a tank. Hulk suplexing a helicopter!
Unfortunately, there wasn't all that much more action in the ENTIRE MOVIE.

Once again, the previews give away the whole movie before you even buy your ticket.
Someone oughta teach a class on "Previews and Teasers: Make Them Buy the Cow."

That was, I think, the problem. The trailers teased a Hulk smash Hulk bash action fest with Heavy metal music and lots of fighting.
Instead, we got an Ang Lee movie. A realy cool Ang Lee movie, but audiences were told (by the advertising) to expect an action flick and instead they got a psychological meditation that had as many action scenes as it did scenes of lichen growing on rocks.
I loved it, but I can see why people felt let down.

Exactly. Although, Burton, Singer, Nolan and Raimi all got away with that.

For me, it was a movie based on a comic that liked, made by a gentleman who had not read the Hulk. Plain and simple. I've seen the movie twice. The first time it was horrible in my opinion. It was boring, and bore little resemblence to what I thought about the Hulk. The second time I saw it, I got it a little more. Still not a great movie, but not the worst I've ever seen. I think a lot of people did not like it, because it was not what they thought the Hulk should be.

It was also the first comic-book movie I'd seen that I specifically warned parents NOT to let their kids watch... no matter what age they were.

I thought it was decent. Again, not to beat a dead horse, but the movie dragged in the beginning for awhile, setting everything up, and then the ending battle with his father was confusing, but it was all together enjoyable.
Yes, i'll be looking forward to a sequel.

I gotta agree with with you about the ending in South America that was the ONLY good thing about the entire movie which was about 20 minutes too long at the end and 15 minutes should have been cut from the beginning. People were expecting Jurassic Park style action and got a bunch of melodrama BS.

I loved whatever scenes had The Hulk in'em.
