The new Honor Harrington has been out for a few days now. I just received my copy and lo and behold, Baen books has once again included a CD-ROM with the hardcover.
The disk contains the entire text of the following novels by David Weber:
Worlds of Honor
Wind Rider's Oath
We Few
War of Honor
The War God's Own
The Stars at War II
The Stars at War I
The Short Victorious War
The Shiva Option
The Service of the Sword
The Honor of the Queen
The Excalibur Alternative
The Apocalypse Troll
Shadow of Saganami
Echoes of Honor
Crown of Slaves
Changer of Worlds
Bolo
At All Costs
Ashes of Victory
1633
On Basilisk Station
Oath of Swords
More Than Honor
March Upcountry
March to the Stars
March to the Sea
Insurrection
In Enemy Hands
Honor Among Enemies
Flag in Exile
Field of Dishonor
Empire From the Ashes
Notice that "Shadow of Saganami" is in there, even though it hasn't been published in paperback.
Baen books strikes me as a remarkably generous editor, or at least one who knows that few people actually read books on their computers. Providing electronic texts like that is going to generate far more sympathy and interest (and therefore income) than it is going to damage sales.
More power to Baen, I say, especially since they also give books for free for your troops overseas. (Not that I agreed with the Iraq war, but providing for the troops is a nive gesture indeed).
