The last issue of the first mini was great. We finally find out that the Silver Agent time travelled into the future, and stopped a disaster from happening. He saved the world. And then he's executed. It is not until years later that people find out that the murder was fake, and the Silver Agent was under mind control, etc.

The two brothers are still fighting, and yet when the Blue Knight catches up with one of them...the cop brother puts himself in front of his brother to protect him...and the Blue Knight leaves, apparently not wanting to kill a cop.

The brothers lock eyes one last time, and it's a chance to change everything. A nexus moment just like what you and I have had many many times in our lives, where we can say something, but we don't, and lose our chance forever. One sentence from either brother could have led to different outcomes. But neither speaks up and they part ways.

Only the future mini's will tell us how they get back together (or if they do).

The only problem with the Dark Age is that we have to wait awhile for the next issue. I'm glad that we'll get the Samaritan Special in-between.

This storyline is really shaping up to be something special.

Whoa! What was up with the Silver Agent? How'd he travel into the future? Or grow to giant size? Questions! Questions!

Damn you Kurt Busiek!

Or grow to giant size?

See that was my one question, were they giants or just in a weird perspective?

No offense, but do you seriously think those were the important issues in this story?

Yeah, I must admit that the whole Silver Agent aspect of this story seems to be turning into a giant Maguffin. It'll be interesting to see what larger story KB has in mind...

Of course they weren't. I am a bit curious about how it all happened, though. :)

This was my first read about Astro City. The reason I picked it up is because one of the main characters has the same name as me and it is rare (Royal).

I was thrilled at the story. Interesting and very real characterization. So much better than what Marvel and D.C. continue to crank off. Maybe that appeal is just becuase I'm not a 14-year old anymore, so I'm looking for something other than what a 14-year old enjoys.

Just picked up the LOCAL HEROES graphic novel to start reading more.

I am disappointed that there will be a wait before the next 4-issue run starts.

Cool, a new reader! :) Try out Confession, that's my second favorite story after Pastoral in Local Heroes.

I enjoyed Tarnished Angel over Confession myself.

But you might want to start with Life in the Big City first since it really introduces you to the consept of Astro City.

The Graphic Novel paperback version of Local Heroes has an introduction by James Robinson that explains the concept well. I actually read the first three issues of AC:tDA without understanding it. I was assuming that previous series had explored the superheroes and this was something unusual that it focused on regular people. I was psyched to find out that this was the concept all along. I'll look for those stories in the grpahic novels to back read the previous pubs.

I read "Gotham Central:In the Line of Duty" which has a similar concept. Interesting to look how a regular detective deals with supervillians and being overshadowed by a superhero.

Do any of the TPBs have "The Nearness of You"(I think that's what they called that story with the Hanged Man)? Possibly the best AC story ever.

Yeah, it's included in CONFESSION.

I was very biased against Tarnished Angel because it took maybe 2-plus years for Busiek to complete the seven- or eight-issue tale. But a while later, I read it in one sitting and really appreciated the story much, much more. I still prefer confession, which I will always give props too because it came out on time. (And yes, I know Kurt was pretty ill at the time).

Really good opening arc.

Was a little surprised that the Old Soldier's Nam appearance didn't seem to get more of a mention.

Silver Agent's real name was Allan Jay Craig. Allan and Jay seem to be inspired from GA GL and Flash. Where did Craig come from?
