Outside of a really sweet costume, I have no idea what was up with Spider-Man 2099. Can anyone recommend it or give me a synopsis? How was the writing and art?

Spider-Man 2099 Profile (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/spiderman2099.htm)

The original creative team was Peter David and Rick Leonardi, and their run was pretty good, if I recall correctly.

It's one of my most cherished runs of all time. I'd say the whole thing was perfect right up to the point where they introduced Venom 2099, then things got a little crazy. PAD wrote a nice ending to the series that left things open for future stories but still gave you completion. But for some reason Marvel had two other bozo's go on to write the final two issues that completely tore down all the characters and made it nearly irreparable. At the time, I remember liking Spidey 2099 more than whatever was going on in the regular Spider-Man titles.

As far as a run down goes, the main character, Miguel O'Hara, works for the evil corporation Alchemax. He works in the genetics division and they run tests on altering gene's to make super soldiers, etc. Apparently he finds some "quality research material" and uses it as a template. In other words, through genetic tampering they are trying to give people spider-man powers. Thats really the only relation to the titles. Anyway, one of the subjects go crazy and tries to kill him but ends up dieing from the tests. Miguel ties to quit but his boss gets him hooked on some drug so he'll be forced to stay on board in order to recieve the antidote. Miguel tries to use their genetic altering machine to get the drug out of his system. Something goes wrong, yada yada yada, he gets powers very similar to Spider-man. Then he goes on adventures trying to be a hero fighting the evil corporation that employs him. Over all I'd say it's one of PAD's finer moments. Rick Lenardi's pencils are pretty solid. It looks like a 90's book, but is still great quality.

I definately recomend it. Oh yeah, and the costume is sweet.

I read a few of those as a kid. Honestly all I remembered from it was that smoking was illegal in 2099.

It didn't get a proper ending, since all of the 2099 books were being folded into a series called 2099 World of Tomorrow by Ben Raab.

Peter David's last issue was #44, which had Spidey battling Roman.

Raab took over with the last two issues, #45 and 46, to basically bring Spider-Man into World of Tomorrow. He had Spider-Man fight the Goblin and the Vulture while New York was flooded, but nothing final really happened.
