I used to be ManchesterTrix, this is my name(or rather middle and last) and it is pronounced like Tige like in Tiger.

I am not working currently as I'm taking care of my Grandma.

I am currently reading Sleeper, Losers, and a host of excellent trade paperbacks as they come out.

Gail and I disagree about most things, but that's okay, she can't always be right. And I speak French mostly fluently, though my spelling is even worse than my English.

kossori
05-18-2004, 11:06 AM
My name's Lee Stone. (kossori on the DC Message Boards, as well).
I'm a bartender/waiter in a small town in East Texas.

I've been reading comics regularly since 1982. The first series I was hooked on was Power Man and Iron Fist. Then later Justice League International.

My fave writers, besides Ms. Simone, are Brian Azzarello, Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis (when they're working together) and Mike Allred (when he's doing Madman).
My fave artists- Eduardo Risso, Phil Hester, Alex Maleev, Micheal Lark and John Byrne.

TV- Alias, The Sopranos, The Prisoner and The Avengers. And '70s cop shows.
Movies- Anything by Quentin Tarantino or Alfred Hitchcock. And James Bond.

Fave drink at the moment- Absolute Black Russian. But I make a great Long Island Iced Tea.

I have my own small press comic project, called 'Nuther World Comics (http://www.angelfire.com/ns/weird). I prefer writing to drawing, but feel more freedom when I do both.
And sometimes I get a bug to remix music.

Comics I read (the ones I've been sticking with the longest)-
100 Bullets, Gotham Central, Daredevil, Legion, Green Arrow and Mystique. And Catwoman, which I recently dropped due to the art change but may pick back up. And I'm really enjoying Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Looking forward to Doom Patrol. Oh, and I just started picking up Birds of Prey.

Anything else?
Music- I like everything. Very eclectic tastes. No telling what I'll be listening to. Right now I have a progressive/adult alternative station playing Bob Dylan.
But give me another hour and I'll probably be listening to 50 Cent or Beyonce.

Languages- I'm cajun, but never lived near any others. So of course, I tried to learn French, but no one could help me. I made my friends crazy. I did learn a bit of Spanish when I worked in a Mexican restaraunt. And it comes in handy in my neighborhood (which is one I'd expect Dizzy (of 100 Bullets) to be from. Meanwhile I speak English most comfortably.

mattbib
05-18-2004, 11:13 AM
I'm Matt Bib. Hence my user name. I've been a poster at CBR approximately since the last reboot in early 2002. I'm 31. Born, raised, and still live here in Wilmington, Delaware, which is about a fifteen minute drive south of Philadelphia. I'm the oldest of five siblings, having three brothers and one sister. I'm single.

I work as a purchasing manager for a major financial institution. Well, I make it look like I'm working anyway. I've been there for over seven years now and have seven employees in two states. Like that means anything.

I'm an Eagle Scout and am currently the Scoutmaster of the same troop of which I was a youth member. I've been an adult leader now for thirteen years. I still love it too. The camping and other outdoor activities are an added bonus to the chance I get to make in developing some of our local youth.

Hobbies? Well, I read comics. As Tom once described me I'm an unapologetic X-fan. In my eyes Chris Claremont can do no wrong. I'm a Marvel Zombie. I also like to draw occasionally.

I really just like to have fun. I love to travel. I love to hang out with friends or have a drink. Or several. I enjoy the opportunity to meet and talk to other CBR posters. I love the communities here at CBR. When not here you can usually find me over on the X-Books forum.

Comics: Gotham Central, Sleeper, The Losers, 100 Bullets, Y: The Last Man, The Goon, Conan, and of course, Birds of Prey.

Languages: English only, although I've taken about 8 years of Spanish...without use, it goes away.

My name is Patrick, I am a Community College Instructor in Iowa. I have been reading comics for well over 20 years, and spend entirely too much money on them (According to my wife!). I read voraciously, both comics and books. As to what I read: Batman books, and alot of scattered stuff...most of the Ultimates titles, anything by Bendis, Gail, or with art by Oeming. I also buy a lot of painted books.

Spend a lot of my online time on the Bendis board.

My name is Beau, I'm an Aries, and I'm a prick as well.

I used to post as B_Metal88, but I found that other people on the net have scoffed that name, or used a variation of it (ie, Bmetal76), and I figured that it's time to "stop hiding behind a screen-name" and whatnot.

I'm 22, I go to university and study English and I have a love/hate relationship with my old comics from the mid-90s.

Edit: I currently read Ultimate Spider-Man, Hellblazer, Green Lantern, etc, and used to really enjoy Alias and Deadpool/Agent X before both got cancelled.

JeffreyWKramer
05-18-2004, 01:06 PM
I'm Jeffrey. I work as a psychotherapist in Des Moines, Iowa. I have a few professional psych publications. I've been a comics fan since about age 6 - i.e. 34 years, give or take. I've been a fan of role-play gaming for 23 years. I like to cook when I have time. I read a lot. I like to hike and go on long walks. One of my oddest habits is that I read and walk at the same time, often doing so for hours, stopping only to use a bathroom or refill a water bottle. I've been doing this since age 6 and I have pretty good awareness of my surrroundings, so I can do this without stumbling, walking into things or in front of traffic, etc. It's a pretty handy skill, because I'm pretty busy, and this way I can read and get exercise at the same time.

I am married (second marriage) to my wife, julianne. My and juli's relationship is a D/s one as well as husband/wife. We're also active swingers. I have a son, age 11, who lives with my ex and visits me some weekends, and a stepson, age 13, who lives with juli and me and juli but visits his father most weekends.

I at least visit most of the boards at CBR from time to time, but most of my posting is done at Comm, Rumbles, YABS, the Marvel Universe board or Music.

I'm bummed that among the many good things lost with the big CBR Cataclysm of 5/16/04 were my reviews of ROSE AND THORN #1 and 2. I was planning to refer back to my original review when I write up a review of the series as a whole after reading the closing issue.

Warewolf
05-18-2004, 01:51 PM
Hi,

My real name is Christopher Ware, but I go by Warewolf on most boards. I'm an aerospace engineer with a small firm in Mountain View, CA that specializes in helicopter simulation (we have a software packaged used for engineering analysis and piloted simulations for flight trainers).

My wife and I have a two month old daughter, which has really eaten into my comics reading time, but is well worth it :)

My top five favorite comics currently are

Amazing Spider-Man
Negation
Y--The Last Man
Outsiders
Flash

although I spend about $160-$180 a month on comics, so I read a lot.

Anywho, that's me...

Kevin Sole
05-18-2004, 01:55 PM
My name is (Suprise!), Kevin Sole. Some people call me "GodofMotion", some call me GoM, some even call me G-Mo. :)

I am an aspiring professional writer, my current (at the forefront) work is called DEAD LAST, with issue #0 being released at the San Diego Comic-Con.

I am 28 years old, living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

What Warewolf spends on comics in one month, I'll spend in under two weeks. I'm a fast reader, so I'll read 30-40 comics several times in a week, plus reading 3 or 4 novels a month.

My favorite books at the moment are Negation (War), Birds of Prey, Exiles, and Wildcats Version 3.0.

And there you have it.

I like a lot of DC Comics, especially the Batman family of books. I also like Wildcats 3.0, Authority, Stormwatch: Team Achilles, and Sleeper from Wildstorm. 100 Bullets from the Vertigo imprint is great reading in TPB format.

I bought the Birds of Prey: Of Like Minds TPB and loved it, so I started getting the series regularly with the start of the Student & Sensei arc. Lady Shiva is a favorite character of mine and was glad to see her featured in such a great supporting role. Was a little peeved that she lost to Cheshire, but the circumstances were not in her favor. I can see her actually taking Cheshire under her wing if she isn't too angry with her.

Yep, thats me.

There's way too many comics to list, but of current books, personal favorites include 100 Bullets, Y The Last Man, Promethea, JSA, Hawkman, New Frontier, and Aquaman.

I can't claim fluency in them, but, when I was in practice, I could read and communicate well in French and Spanish.

Name's Drew, I've been a member of CBR since August of 2002. That means I've been here for about SEVEN HUNDRED YEARS. I mostly hang out on the Rumbles Board, cuz rumbling is hella awesome.

I'm currently pursuing a B.A. in English/Journalism. Writing is fun. Ironically enough, I accidentally didn't capitalize the Y in my screen name. I'm a bad duck. I'm quite whipped by an angelic creature named Elisabeth, who I will force to post here one day. She doesn't quite share my love of comics, but I will change her. Bwahah.

I'm also pursuing a black belt in Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do (which is honestly more like Tang Soo Do by way of Shotokan....Yeah, it has not a damn thing to do with the WTF-style TKD.), and I've also done some cross training in HapKiDo, Wrestling, and IKKF weapons training.

Oh, and Rock Lee is my personal hero.

Lily Chou-Chou
05-18-2004, 04:41 PM
Hi!

Lily Chou-Chou, 31.

I fell in love with comics when I first read Daredevil and Uncanny X-Men years ago... I was a Marvel addict during all my teens, then I discovered manga, european comics and DC, and now I feel kinda mentally ill when I don't read a huge amount of comics each week... The titles I enjoy the most these days are Y the last man, X-Statix, DC : the new frontier, Daredevil, Birds of Prey, Runaways, Teen Titans, Sleeper and the stories of mangakas like Naoki Urasawa (Monster, 20th Century Boys), Ai Yazawa (Nana) and Akimi Yoshida (Banana Fish)...

I have this obsession with japanese things : japanese food (soba ramen!), japanese cinema (Kitano, Miike, Tsukamoto...), japanese music (visual rock and j-pop) and japanese art de vivre... I also love all things glam, from Bowie to Velvet Goldime, from Cabaret to french rouge wine... My favorite record this year is Franz Ferdinand's debut LP, and the last movie I fell hopelessly in love with is Satoshi Kon's Millenium Actress... Currently reading the english novel The Wrong Boy by Willy Russell : the funny story of a Morrissey fan.

I work in a DVD store, that is kinda boring at times but I can borrow whatever I want : that's the good part.

Oh, and I speak french with that strong parisian tone that sounds weird to the people from south of France... And the weather is damn nice tonight in Paris : my windows are open and the sky is clear, I'll make sweet dreams.

Howdy! Sean Hutchinson here. Or Hutch as I like to go by when I'm pretending to be cool. I wear an orange 1975 Houston Astros hat pretty much all the time, not because I like the Astros, but because I like the color orange. My prescription sunglasses are also an important part of my wardrobe.

I'm a 20 year old college student, studying chemical engineering at Drexel University. Currently I'm residing in Philadelphia, but my location changes like twice a year due to going on co-op.

A few things about me. First off, I'm totally hilarious. Seriously. If people have told you otherwise, they're lying. Second, I'm awesome. And I mean really awesome. Third, I am the creator of the greatest comic ever, Hutch University. It has been said by many that reading Hutch University is akin to reaching universal transcendence. Especially if you like dogs that curse all the time.

Comicwise, I pick up a good number of books from Marvel each month, some DC/Vertigo books, a couple of Image comics, and Crossgen.

As for speaking other languages, I'm fluent in 1337-speak, so if Oracle ever needs to decipher an AOL chatroom, I'd be glad to be of assistance.

FroggieBKT
05-18-2004, 07:28 PM
My names Chris but everybody can feel free to call me Froggie. Froggie originates from the ancient norse...actually its my fraternity nickname (yes, just like in Animal House, except no John Belushi, we could only afford Jim). I just graduated from college and am now heading off to grad school. I'll be in an MFA creative writing program because I want to write and I am so lazy in every other aspect of my life except my writing that I'm going to refrain from real work as long as humanly possible. I've somehow conned my way into getting an assistantship so I'll be teaching two sections of remedial English.

I'm a southern boy, born and bred. Yes, our food is excellent and yes it is mostly all fried or oozing grease. Amazingly I'm still in shape regardless of this. Yes, it is the humidity, not the heat that makes it "unbearable" down here. Still, I'd rather have two months of humidity in the summer than three months of snow in the winter. We actually haven't seen snow in my neck of the woods in about four years.

I read oodles of books, usually working on at least five or six at a time. Most of my light reading is crime/mystery type stuff of the John D. MacDonald, Lawrence Block, Dennis Lehane ilk. When I'm in the mood for heavier stuff I usually stick to 20th century American, Faulkner, Hemingway, James Jones, and a lot of newer stuff like Tim O'Brien (EVERYONE who wants to write should read The Things They Carried), Thom Jones, Tom Paine, and John Dufresne. As far as comics go I am always up to my eyeballs in crime comics, can't get enough Rucka, Brubaker, Miller, Bendis, Azzarello, etc. Predictably my favorite books are 100 Bullets, Daredevil, Sleeper, Powers, stuff like that. I'm still mourning the loss of Wildcats 3.0, the best superhero book of the 21st century.

Now that I'm done with school (until August at least) I plan to post here more often. Haven't gotten to do it as much as I would've liked in the past because I was one of those ultra-I'm-too-involved-for-my-own-good kind of people in my undergrad days (I say that like it was years ago when I just graduated last saturday). Anyway, thats enough rambling from me. Good to be here.

I read and collect ALL KINDS of comic books, having a collection that is 46years old with many multiple issues bought during the Silver Age and to present. I also have around 400 golden age books. My Marvel comics collection is complete except 14 issues, 9 of them tougher to find and afford these days. My entire collection numbers over 100 longboxes and 60-some-odd short boxes.

ORCA's give aways have been boosted over the years from infusions from my personal collection. Along with the generosity of gifted donations by retailers and fans alike beliving in ORCA's efforts to influence change. Don't think so? Look around!

During my 11 years at the helm of ORCA, I've guided the giving away of over 700, 000 free comic books to schools, libraries, and to the general public starting as far back as 1994. I am the concept originator of the "Comics in the Classroom" educational effort that CrossGen parlayed into their BRIDGES program. I am also the namesake for the "Ric Olie" Star Wars: Episode One starship pilot responsible for giving young Anakin Skywalker (the Future Darth Vader) his first starship flying lesson. It was an honor I shall never forget.

I host two conventions each year via my small entertainment company, TightLip Entertainment. The Mighty Mini-Con is held every first weekend in June in upstate New York. And I have a horror convention during the third weekend in October. Again, both cons are held in Syracuse, New York.

I'm a Japanophile, music student, steel drum performer, and video game expert. I have very long hair.

I have to admit I've never read any comics by Gail. I haven't bought any American comics for years, and I hardly get around to manga these days either. But YABS was funny, and besides, I just like the board.

MacQuarrie
05-18-2004, 11:32 PM
Name: MacQuarrie
Gender: male, flaming hetero
Occupation: Graphic Designer/cartoonist/illustrator
What comics I like: Simpsons, Birds of Prey, Spider-Girl, JSA, Justice League Adventures, Fantastic Four, Batman Adventures, Astro City....

Languages: I am the quintessential Ugly American. "He doesn't understand english; I'll have to shout."

Expanding on that:
I'm Jim MacQuarrie. My big claim to fame (http://www.comicbookresources.com/misc/credits/) at CBR is that I designed the CBR logo. I've been underfoot here since 1997 or so, when I was lured here by the presence of an Astro City board, now sadly departed. For a while I was the moderator of the Legion Board. At the moment I'm one of the former moderators who wander the back corridors of the place. For some reason the moderators still put up with me.

I co-own the humor and cartoon site Monkey Spit! (http://www.moneyspit.com) where I'm currently neglecting my weekly cartoon, the Fourth Wall, and column, Rant-Man's Notebook.

I'm an old fart, married almost 19 years with three children, a dog and three cats. I teach Sunday School, I'm restoring a 1907 house, and I'm currently writing a science-fiction sitcom that isn't a parody or satire. I am a licensed ham radio operator (even though I don't own one), a Wilton-certified cake decorator, and an NAA-certified Level 1 Archery instructor. I used to fence, but haven't done it in a while, and I'm afraid to go back to it now that my daughter can kick my ass.

Well, because Gail asked so nicely...

Yeah, that's my name. I'm 26 and live in Calgary. I have a BA and work in a warehouse, for now. I try to fill my spare time with tennis, table tennis, reading, doing 'stuff' with friends, building arcade sticks and competitive fighting games (which means I play CVS2, SF3:3S, ST, GGXX, and KOF's in tournaments).

Comics I enjoy are Hellboy, BPRD, StreetFighter, Lore, Trigun, Conan, and various other shiny spur of the moment picks. Agent X was cool.

Well, that was kind of fun. And now I never have to post again. Hooray!

Hi, my name is Rich and I'm a comiholic. I can't help myself, those pesky four coloured fiends call to me from their pages, urging me to open the cover and see whats inside.

By day I'm a mild mannered accountant but by night I stalk the streets of Manchester, England in search of ways to avoid doing the housework that's assigned to me by my lovely girlfriend, especially if it involves sanding or painting.

I realised a couple of years ago that I really don't enjoy the day job (well duh  ) so I wrote a novel which now lives in my drawer where hopefully it will never see the light of day again (cliches abound!). The second one, in progress, will of course earn me enough to jack in the job, buy a castle and live in resplendent decadence for the rest of my natural life. I'm also planning to win the lottery and have now come up with a foolproof plan which involves some capital investment by willing souls (please Paypal me at my email address to be in on the action... ;) )

I also write reviews, an op/ed/interview column (http://www.paperbackreader.com/columns/rest-story/rest-st_index00.htm), and a new upcoming column over at PaperbackReader (www.paperbackreader.com) where we're big fans of Gail's work.

I dig Golden Age superheroes, Doc Savage, monkies, y'know, the usual stuff.
Me fave titles at the moment are:
- Eric Powell's 'The Goon',
- Kagan MacLeod's 'Infinite Kung Fu' and
- Paul Grist's 'Jack Staff', all of which come highly recommended.
But I'll read pretty much anything as long as it's good.

Hey...

This is my first post on CBR.

I go by the moniker Zatara2000 and I'm a regular poster at Geoff Johns' site and a former regular at the DC site (if you ever encountered me over there forget everything you knew - I've reformed).

I'm in my late twenties, a writer (although not fictional - I just kinda write....stuff) and my hobbies include painting, antiquing, collectables and, of course, comic books.

Why am I here? Well because of my one comic book obsession - the Black Canary. Yup - I am obseesed with the Canary and have since I discovered comic books when I was in the fourth grade. Why is she the greatest character ever? Thats a story within itself that I wont bore you with.

Anyhow, saw Gail's post about this forum on the DC boards and now I've decided to come and hang out for a while.

Oh - and let me tell you something about Gail Simone. Shes the greatest thing that has happened to the Black Canary since Denny O'Neil revived her in the late sixties. She was being seriously misused prior to Gail coming on BoP. As a result I'll buy just about anything Gail writes now. She really is one of the most talented writers out there today IMP.

:D

My name is Gerson Agena and I'm from Brazil. Portuguese is my native language. I'm a Systems Developer.

I have always liked to read comics but it was Frank Miller's Daredevil that made me a truly comic book fan. Currently, my favorite writers are Gail Simone, Brian Bendis, Greg Rucka, Ed Brubaker, Kurt Busiek and Geoff Johns.

The first thing I've read from Gail was a script posted on YABS: "The Final Marvel Comic". It was the funniest Marvel story I've ever read! From there I followed her work on Agent X and Birds Of Prey.

I'm your average male from LA stuck in NC working for a bank and have been married one year this coming Monday. I just got back into comics, missed the 90s (thank the Glorious G.O.D.) and recently discovered Birds of Prey and came here because 'Gail told me to' on the DC boards.(unfortunately this is the only time 'Gail told me to' works and believe me, I've tried it at work). I read BoP, JSA, Flash, Superman/Batman, She Hulk, all the FF titles, Walking Dead and Supreme Power. Currently I'm trying to get my wife to read BoP because I know she'd take to it like Robert Downey Jr. took to coke. I can not speak any other languages, I have a terrible singing voice, can't dance and suck at math. Thanks for asking

I'm Anthony Lucynski. Some might know me as Anthony L or Gweedos as those have been online alias's i've used. Been a fan of Gail Simones for awhile now.

Married, with one child.

My home on the web is ComiX-Fan (formerly known as X-Fan) where i've done everything from contributing articles and newstories to covering conventions and moderating/administrating the boards.

Now i'm just the grumpy old man that they put up with since i've been there for years.

(how I can be considered old at 25, i'll never know, but hey...)

Umm. Deadpool is my favorite comic character ever. I'm currently buying more DC then I ever thought I would. And i'm a huge RPG nut (console player, dont lynch me, I like my consoles. I admit that PC's are more powerful, why cant you just leave me alone?!!)

Achem. I'm a Democrat but dont always vote that way. I'm incredibly lucky in life, and by all rights shouldnt be living the life I live now. Which just means i'm extremely grateful for every single day, even the horrible ones.

I read a lot of comics now... just about all of them. But I collect X-men, Gotham Central, Powers, Invincible, Spider-man and a couple of others.

If you are ever in Studio City, California, stop by the store, read some comics, chit chat and help me avoid doing work

Cheers.

"public defender"

Male, age 31. Live in Seattle with my wife of 5 years and our "kids" - 3 dogs and 2 cats.

Work in the health care housing field. Have collected comics for 20 years now, with a few breaks here and there. Read mostly DC comics (Superman books, Bat books, JLA/JSA, Greens Lantern and Arrow, Firestorm, Wonder Woman, Outsiders, Teen Titans, etc etc). Love Birds of Prey, and just read R&T #6 this morning. Awesome!

I have ventured outside of the DCU in the last few years. Bought the Buffy and Angel comics from Dark Horse as well as some Star Wars books, enjoy the CSI minis from IDW, Barry Ween from Oni.

Read Supreme Power, She Hulk, Pulse, Mystique, and Emma Frost from Marvel. Read Alias and Elektra before they got cancelled. Added the new Astonishing X-Men to my pull list because I'm a Whedon-phile.

Bottom line, I collect a lot of titles. Beyond that, I enjoy cooking, watching DVD extras and commentaries, surfing the web, and am currently in the process of purchasing my first house.

Wait, I'm confusing myself with Luka again. Sorry.

I'm Patrick. Live in the Chicago area. The only books I really read when they come out anymore are JSA and Astro City (like that one ever comes out.) Besides that I'm pretty much one of those wait for the trades guys.

I'm currently unemployed and single. Funny how those two go together- isn't it ;). I'm a big reader of "real" books as well. I'm pretty varied there, in the past two months I have read theology, biography, and plain old fiction.

Wandered over here from the DC Boards (where I've been lurking in the Legion threads reading the responses to the impending cancellation).

I'm Sara. student. female. likes too many comics to mention them all but Ultimate Spider-Man, Birds of Prey(not sucking up, i have every issue) and Fantastic Four are my faves. I usually go where my favorite creators go. Bendis, Gail, Alan Moore, Gaiman, Ellis, Busiek, Perez, Bachelo, Straczynski, Kevin Smith(if he ever finishes the Black Cat series  )Millar and a couple others are what i buy religiously. (although Bendis needs to write fewer books so the cash can go elsewhere.)

i don't speak any other langs fluently but took a year of Spanish and two of French. I just graduated High School and am headed to college in August.

I guess thats it.

Jennifer de Vries
05-23-2004, 05:36 AM
My name's Jennifer, and I was raised by a traveling pack of wolves, who came across me after I'd been thrown into a raging river by my dark magic practicing, and thus condemned to death by flames, gypsy mother in the far away Eastern European country of Belarus. Somehow, I made my way West and learnt to speak Dutch, English and German on top of speaking wolf, grunting and being able to make this really cool clicking sound with my tongue. Slowly but surely, I'm adapting to these silly things like civilization, wearing clothes and not hunting for my own dinner (though supermarkets? Now that's a way to test one's patience). On day, when I'm all growed up, I'm returning to my beloved Belarus to take vengeance on those who separated me from my people, using the many skills I learnt in Western Europe such as personal hygene and an eye for fashion.

Or maybe, just maybe, I'm a 22 year old college student from Holland. My interests are a plenty, but most prominent interests are comics (le duh), movies, music (listening, as I am just too retarded to play), graphic design and writing (I'm a professional amateur, really). I don't actually have a job or anything, as I quickly decided that leeching off the government and your parents is the way to go when you're still in college. I'll work when I'm done being young, thankyouverymuchly.

Ever since Marvel went all Rehash... er, Reload, my monthly list of comics has greatly depleted, and shifted towards DC. My favourite titles are: Birds of Prey, Fantastic Four and Teen Titans. There is a general fuzzy love in my widdle heart for Geoff Johns, Mark Waid and Gail Simone.

Languages: Dutch and English fluently, German mostly-okay.

And I think I can safely say that I've rambled on for too long, toodles. :)

I currently work in commercial real estate but I'm working toward my teaching credential in High School Social Studies. I have a Bachelor and Master degree in Psychology (which I hope to teach in H.S).

Comics I read: Wonder Woman, BOP, JLA and anything else that piques my interest. I've been moving away from lots of superhero and getting into more action/adventure and intrique type comics.

Hobbies: Movies, music, art and Greek Mythology.

Oh, yeah, I'm 36, and have been married for 9.5 years! (It's been tough at times, but awesome and never a dull moment!)

Oh, and English is the only language I speak fluently. I've taken many years of spanish, but since I don't use it, I can't speak it, I can read it somewhat. I also can somewhat read/get the grasp of French.

I'm Aaron Norton, and I am currently working on my Elementary Education degree at the University of Kansas. Got a couple semesters left...

I'm a big DC guy. Right now, I'm picking up pretty much all of the core titles, and all of the Bat family books. As far as Marvel books go, DAREDEVIL and X-STATIX rock my socks. Really looking forward to ASTONISHING X-MEN, too....Whedon is a god...Oh, and POWERS over at Image, or is it Marvel now, is fantastic!

Sadly, I don't know any spoken language besides English. Though, I can rock the sign language pretty well.

I'm a (male) graduate student in Comparative Literature, and I've been reading comics on and off since I was in the 4th grade. I stopped reading in high school, but my deep love of Black Canary kept me interested in following her career. I started collecting again about a year ago.

I'm 28, live in NYC, and I'm writing my diss. on Ethics and Early (Pan) American Intellectual culture.

I read: Birds of Prey, Teen Titans, Outsiders, Superman, Catwoman, Powers, Batman.

Jim here...I'm a 30 year old from South Carolina..Happily Married for almost 9 years now..4 kids, 3 girls and a boy...
Right now I'm working on my Comp Sci BS as well as being a dad..
I learned to read with comics back in the day when they were a quarter...while the other kids were learning about Mr. H's Horrible Hair, I was looking up gamma ray radiation in a dictionary..
Needless to say I'm a geek...
My favorite comics at this time are JSA, Birds of Prey, Nightwing, Emma Frost, Mystique, Avengers, Captain America (really really can't wait to see how this new Invaders thing works), Fables and Gotham Central...
I also liked Hawkeye by Fabian Ni, uh you know...and I got an extra kick out of seeing Clint pop into the Chapin Memorial Library although I've never seen a hot librarian there...(I'm from near Myrtle Beach)

I'm glad I found this forum..I used to hang out at X-Fan where I was known as The Whizzer...(I'm a sucker for Golden Age heroes both DC and Marvel)...it was there that I got introduced to Ms. Simone's writing and even coughed up money for a subscription to Agent X (which I still love to this day...can't wait to see you get Outlaw in the future *crosses fingers*)

So that's a small bio of me...I'm sure you'll figure out more about me in the future..

EDIT: Oh as far as foreign language fluency goes, I speak Southern...you'd think I'd know some Tagalog since my mom is a Filipina, but I don't know how to speak or write it, although I know enough hearing it that I can figure out if she's talking about me or not..

Hi Gail!

I wanted to see what's new at CBR.

Sorry about the loss of threads but the new boards look very nice.

I am the artist on GoGirl! Check out my site:

PS: Gail, Will we see you at San Diego?

Tim Agen
05-27-2004, 02:55 AM
My name is Tim and I'm new to comics (about 1 year now) and new to YABS. I've been at MillarWorld 7 months. Gail's invite pushed me to action, but I wouldn't have come if I didn't respect her writing.

I'm a student again, just finished my 6th year of post-high school education.. not that all of it was very good. I'm trying to get a job at a bakery (3am is a beautiful time).

I play videogames (xbox, pc), though I've been slacking off recently. I love rock music but have difficulty finding new things. I'm partially trapped by my high-school tastes and my hatred of commercial radio.

I like talking (and reading) about comics. My current pull list:
Birds of Prey, Catwoman, Gotham Central, Superman
District X, Runaways
Fables, Seaguy, Global Freq #12 (damn the wait!)
The Walking Dead, The Unfunnies

I keep a list of "waiting for collection" and wanted collections with about 250 entries on it. I need a lotto win.

My avatar is super-cute, but I am actually giant man. Not super-cute.

John Popa here. That's a long 'oh' sound in the last name, by the way.

I'm 31, live in NE Ohio and can generally be seen carousing random comic book message boards, going to cons and doing the usual comic book fan stuff.

When I'm not reading comics I'm going to the theater (or performing in the theater) learning insane amounts about the history of professional wrestling, winning karaoke contests ... all sorts of strange things one does when in Ohio.

Just speak English. I have enough troubles with that.

My name is Craig Kemper. And before you ask, no, my online name was never meant to be dirty. It was the silliest name that popped into my head when I needed an online name over eight years ago. Now I'm just too stubborn to change it.

I'm a software engineer/programmer/code jockey, and I spend my day designing, coding, or fixing various features in a number of learning/organizational tools for school children and adults. I've had this job for the last five years. I co-own www.monkeyspit.com with MacQuarrie, which has given me the opportunity to write a number of things which you can click on in my signature below.

I'll be 32 in July, but I usually have to do some math to figure out how old I am when people ask, because I can never seem to put my finger on how old I really am. It's not a new thing. I've had the problem since hitting 20.

My wife and I have been married for almost four years, and we have three kids, my step-daughter Chelsea (eight), my son Quinn (almost three), and my daughter Bethany who will be one in a week. Chelsea is featured in some of the comics linked below, so click on them or she will kick your ass. I am an odd parent. I routinely mess with my kids' minds, and the living room of our new house has a giant play tent with a large crawl tube instead of furniture. Chelsea is a genius, and acts and thinks like she's thirteen. I am noticing more gray hairs every day. Quinn has been using his own computer by himself for six months, and works a mouse better than my mother does. Bethany is a couple weeks from walking by herself, and she likes to say Dada, and scream in dolphin. She has an evil twinkle that's going to make me go bald someday.

I spent seven years in college, mainly because I didn't know who I was, and changed majors a couple times. I am extremely happy I took that long to finish. The last four years of college, I worked as an editor at the student newspaper, which is where I learned most of my life lessons, and will be the subject of the graphic novel series I am currently working on.

I consider myself a recovering asshole. I'm shy, but extremely silly, depending on the situation. My co-workers would say I have a very dry sense of humor, which I sprinkle through daily conversation.

I've been on the web since summer 1995, but I've been on the Internet a year longer than that. Without the Internet, I wouldn't have met my wife, or gotten my current job.

I have a cat named Brandi, who is loud and needy, and has a belly that swings back and forth when she runs.

Comics I currently read are BOP, Rose & Thorn, Amazing Spider-man, Y The Last Man, and Lucifer. I highly suggest Blankets for a good read. I own more graphic novels than comics. I used to bag and board, but now I use previous months comics to entertain the kids, roll up and shove in couch nooks to keep the slipcover in place, or to wedge under the feet of the couch to protect the carpet. The rest sit in random scatterings on a shelf.

I know no other languages, but if you need to know anything about computers or little kids, I've got you covered.

Name, gender, occupation, and what comics you like, and...

just for my reference, any languages you speak fluently aside from English.

Whoa! I'm way behind on this one.

First off, I don't speak any other languages fluently other than English. Okay, now...

Name: Dan Taylor
Gender: Male
Occupation: Hmmm... That's a tough one. You see, I got laid off last year and have been efforting to make it as a writer since. I spend a lot of time writing and publishing Hero Happy Hour, but don't really make a living off of that - yet. There might be a real big announcement regarding Hero Happy Hour soon.
Comics: I enjoy a wide range of comics. I know that's a vague answer, but my range is rather eclectic. Some of my favorite creators include Simone, Bendis, Niles, Waid, and Jenkins.

Okay, here it goes...
I'm Shel, almost 31, female, suffering in retail until my filmmaking/screenwriting starts to pay off (heh), and live in Arkansas.
I read most of the X-Men books, Superman/Batman (but only because it's Batman and Micheal Turner, let's get that straight), Daredevil, Flash, BOP (um... make that anything Gail writes), Nightwing, Batgirl, Ivy/Harley, and Batman (are you starting to see a trend here?). I'm sure that's not all, just all I can think of at the moment.
I just barely speak enough Spanish to ask if I can use the bathroom.

I also speak for my roommate, Eric, who is 22, also works in retail, and has plans to open an online comic shop in the very near future (I am currently building the website). He reads all of the above books plus, Green Lantern, Spawn, Transformers, and G.I. Joe.
He doesn't speak for himself because I refuse to provide him with the URL's of any of the boards Gail frequents as I am sure she does not want to be bombarded with marriage proposals, and they would be many and often since it appears that Gail is into video games as well. :D

I think I assumed you had to be able to draw . . . as it turns out, you only need to KNOW someone who can draw.

Comics:
The Flash - All things Barry and Wally (especially since Mark Waid's run - all edge and no hero before that)
Teen Titans
Neal Adams' old Continuity Comics (Armor, Megalith, Samuree...)
Top 10 was brilliant
Y: The Last Man
and a thousand others. I love a good story.

hello everyone :D

My name's Lisa and i'm from france, i'll be 18 on the 4th of july.
i am a student and will be attending the Sorbonne's classes in Paris next september. i'm quite excited.
i have one 23 years old half-sister, one 20 years old brother and one 19 months old half-brother, yes, as it may sound to you, it's quite complicated. actually, my family is totally psycho.

other than this, i'm really fond of:
- politics: historically speaking, politics have always been important in any civilization, it's pretty interesting to see how politics have influenced humans and their approach to society.
- history: see "politics" section ;)
- literature (poetry, reading, writing,...) : During a sad period of my life, i used to read any book i could find to forget my problems, and it definitely helped me forming my current personality.
- languages [french (duh!), spanish, english, latin and a little bit of italian ]: being really interested in travels, languages are, obviously, necessary.
- art (drawing, ...) : i think that drawing is the best way of expression which kept you from being totally involved in your work, the ideas and emotions you want to share, since everyone can interpret your work differently, and obviously, you don't need to justify yourslef for what you draw: art cannot be questionned, the only person who can be 100 % sure of the painting meaning is the creator himself, rest is only assumptions, and sometimes, not being involved into things can be good :D
- music : i like all kinds of music, from pop to soul, rock. i like radiohead, nirvana, jimmy eat world, norah jones, shakira, weezer, blur, michelle branch, dido, alicia keys, gotr, avril lavigne, the vines, the strokes, the darkness, white stripes, ...
- movies: my favorite movies are american beauty, big fish, misery and american history x.

I also love travelling and i think that every country, culture needs to be visited, so my dream would be to earn enough money to visit all those countries. :)

kisses, Lisa.

Hello again!

I'm Rob Allen, age 47, got a degree in Behavioral Science with a minor in Philosophy before most of you were born, and have been working in the business software industry since 1978. Currently I help car dealers print their invoices.

I speak no foreign languages but have picked up words & phrases in many of them. I also enjoy exploring the nooks & crannies of English. Before I came to CBR I hung out in an online community of writers, so I picked up some useful info there.

My wife is a sexologist; we met in the largest BDSM club in Los Angeles and escaped to Portland together.

I was on Jeopardy! in 1994 but didn't win. I was ahead after the second round, though!

I've had some training in bodywork/alternative health, and am interested in pursuing that further.

I am "Beefy" Keith A. Moore.

I'm 18 years of age. I just graduated from Pasco High (http://www.beefyness.com/images/billingsbeefy.jpg). Later this month I will be moving to Portland, OR so I can go to school at Heald College.

I run Beefyness.com (http://www.beefyness.com) and Supersoda.com (http://www.supersoda.com).

I write and do the "art" for The Beefy Comic on Beefyness.

I took 2nd place in Comix-Fan's Supervillian Idol while writing for the character Agent X. And Dr. Dooplove gave me the hardest challange ever by the way.

Um...I'm a huge fan of Gail Simone, Brian Bendis, Kevin Smith, and Aaron Sorkin. The saddest day of my life was when Gail went DC exclusive.

I am a former telemarketer. I was the devil. I also used to work at a grocery store. I am crap.

I think that if I really tried, I could kick a lot of ass in Last Comic Standing. Not to be cocky, but I could make you laugh so hard, you would lose 10 pounds. It's happened twice...I swear.

I'm also a Whitesican (half Mexican, half white.) I have made a song and flash cartoon about this which can be found at Beefyness.com.

I love almond chicken from China Cafe in Kennewick, WA and I'm going there now to pick up my lunch. Have a nice day.

NAME Olav BeemerHere's a question: did anything ever come of that letter in Preacher where the guy crapped all over your writing style? Seems to me there was something about all the mail for one issue getting lost or something.

Then again, this could be drug-induced babbling on my part...

Oh!

Hello, glad to meetcha, hope you guessed my name! Buzz Maverik! I'm back, bay-bee, I'm back! I was calling myself Johnny Morroco here for awhile but now I'm back to my given pseudonym.

Gender...Yeah, a lot of women would call themselves Buzz Maverik, but given my double-y chromosomes and freakishly high testosterone levels, I'm a guy...more than a guy...I'm an uberguy.

Occupation: I'm an alter-ego. I may have been the basis for Tyler Durden in FIGHT CLUB because one of my alter ego's brothers is a diesil mechanic and may have known Chuck. I also review comic books with Ain't It Cool News Talkback League of @$$holes and have my own mini-column within the column, Buzz Maverik's Book Club in which I review books that don't have the word "comic" in front of them and what I like to call "non-graphic" novels.

Comics: I dig just about any comic that tells a good story with good art. It's got to be about story, not just pandering to the demographic's desired self-image.

akaRyanHoffman
06-23-2004, 08:04 PM
my name is Ryan Hoffman

I'm 24

I work at a cd store

I own way too many DVDs, cds, comic and books that I haven't watched, listened to or read. What can I say? I'm addicted to buying stuff. On the other hand, I've wore every peice of clothing I've ever bought. How come cloths are like that and books aren't? If you see a shirt sitting there do you go, "Hmm, I don't feel like wearing that today...I'll get to that shirt in three years." Usually doesn't work that way. Actually, I'm full of shit...I have a pair of pants that I got at Christmas that I haven't worn, but they're too long and I've been to lazy to take them and exchange them for a pair that fit. Oh well...at least I didn't pay for them.

I like comics. I wish more people read them.

Read an issue of Groo recently that put a big smile on my face. That reminded me why I love comics in the first place.

Oh...I also finally completed a run of Nexus. I've been missing 15 or so issues of Nexus for probably 5-6 years now. It finally dawned upon me to look online. I've had a computer for 4 years and just NOW I buy some comics online. Go figure...

oh...

I suppose a hello would be nice, but I like howdy more...so:

Howdy folks!

Been lurking around here for a little while now, I guess I'll step up next.

I worked in comics for some years as an artist, and was the penciller on Captain America for a couple of years. There were also a few issues of Avengers, She-Hulk and What If. Before that I spent a decade or so doing independent comics, including writing and drawing Dragonfly, my own superheroine creation. The book got nice reviews, but not enough sales after the distributors started dropping by the wayside in the late eighties.
Nowadays, I teach 3D and 2D graphic design at an Orlando college.

Birds of Prey has become one of the few books on my must-have list. Keep up the good work, Gail. And tell that Benes guy he rocks.

I wonder why I'm wasting my time sitting at a desk all day.
I think about moving someplace colder - Alaska, Canada, Norway.
I'm sad about not having any Internet friends anymore.
I check out a few threads.
I see political bickering.
I'm glad I'm not on the Internet anymore.
I read 60's-70's supsense stories.
I listen to Jazz and other music.
At some point I go home.
I think about doing what I should be doing.
I go through the motions.
My family makes me happy.
I go to sleep.
I dream about all my friends making it to the other side of this stupid world and wish I had the strength to get there too.
I wake up to NPR.

Oh!

i mean... holland? what kind of place is named like that.

Then you definitely don't want to know why some people call it Holland and some call it The Netherlands (reasons other than an insane need to use big words, of course).

I just get tired of explaining it's the same damn place.

And it does exist.

Let's see now....male, met my wife through the seventies' letter columns, where she spotted my letters because I was a minor letterhack at the time (we honeymooned in NYC, and met Julie Schwartz and others at DC, and also made a trip to the Marvel offices another day), have had three kids since then---
Lean a little more to DC than Marvel of the two big ones---also very interested in webcomics, and maintain one of the few "serious" superhero ones
at the site in my sig.---Al

Whoops, I forgot to mention that I'm a 25 year old archaeologist. I dabble with photography, gardening, and I recently started karate lessons.
Some of the books that I read are:
Birds of Prey
Powers
Catwoman, Brubaker
Gotham Central
Y: The Last Man
100 Bullets
That's a former, less gender specific incarnation of me. I swear I'll keep this one.

Alysha McK
06-27-2004, 09:24 PM
Well, let's see...

I'm Alysha McK (short for McKinney), and decidedly female. I'm 29, plan on staying that way, and happily married for the past six and a half years to fellow newbie poster Colin McK...and I plan on staying that way, too.

I work in a group home for people with developmental disabilities, all of whom are over the age of 65. It's a cool job, but I'm an aspiring writer when I can get off my butt and actually do some writing. Colin's an artist, as I'm sure he'll tell you, and we're trying to put a comic of our own together.

I read lots of comics, my favorites being Strangers in Paradise, Birds of Prey, Poison Elves, Ultimate Spiderman, Ultimate X-Men, Y: The Last Man, and Fables...among many, many others.

I'm an English native, but I'm quasi-fluent in French and American Sign Language. I know a little Italian, but I'm learning.

Alysha McK, who should also make it known that all her posts are ended like this. Get used to it. :p

Colin McK

Colin Mck here (short for McKansas, after the town) and I'm reluctantly male. I'm 28 going on... well, still 28 and married to the cheeky monkey directly above.

By day I am an unpaid artist, but by night I roam the dark recesses of REM sleep where I find that I am rather adept at the snoring.

Comics I currently read are Fables, Ultimate Spider-Man, Y the Last Man, Man Man, Hey, Man, anything with "Man" really. It builds my confidence.

I have studied Spanish, French and German, but am nowhere near fluent in any of them. I am, however, fluent in recognizing. So any time you might ask me, "What does that say?" I will promptly and politely reply, "Something in Spanish/French/German."

Yeah, I feel the same way. :D

I got lost in the shuffle, I guess. I had to re-register so here I am... again.

My name's Patrick and I'm a comicaholic. I'm currently addicted to BOP, Flash, Teen Titans, Robin and Nightwing with the occasional Spider or Bat thrown in for good measure.

I have a wife, two daughters, two dogs (Pooter and Rolo) and three cats (Freesia, Elliott and Lucy).

I love to draw and occasionally write and I work in the optical industry.

I speak only English, though some would disagree.

phoenixcassidy
06-28-2004, 10:57 AM
I post at the DC boards under the same name--phoenixcassidy. That's not my real name, it's the name of a manga character that I came up with.

I'm 26 years old and working real hard to get a career in the Entertainment industry (as a producer or scriptwriter).

I read mostly mangas like Inu-Yasha. I got into reading DC comics because of Nightwing---my favorite DC hero. I used to be into Robin the Boy Wonder in the 80s but because he was paired with Starfire, I stopped reading DC. I got back into Dick Grayson during the Dixon run on the comics.

Aside from comics I like reading books. Mostly horror like Stephen King and comedy action like Janet Evanovich.

I love movies. Mostly horror, adventure, history and comedy. My favorites are all the Indiana Jones movies, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, History of the World part 1, Empire of the Sun, Stephen King's It.

Greg Sullivan
06-29-2004, 05:22 AM
Name: Greg Sullivan
Gender: Male
Occupation: Technical Writer
Comics I read: Cerebus, Bone, Planetary (and practically everything else by Warren Ellis), Hellboy, The Goon, Astronauts in trouble, Demo, She Hulk, Supreme Power, Flaming Carrot, Usagi Yojimbo, Zot, Groo, 100 Bullets, Stray Bullets, Fallen Angel, Hellblazer, Lucifer, Queen and Country, Seaguy, and more.

De Carabas
06-29-2004, 01:20 PM
First Name: Eric Michael (but everyone just calls me Eric)

Age: 29 (and 359 days)

Status: Engaged to BronteJD

Occupation: Librarian--Trainee, which means that I'm employed as a full-time professional, but I'm still working on my Master's degree. I plan on graduating in December.

Langauge: To the lament of my future in-laws, English only. Did study Japanese for several years in school, but I'm not fluent.

Comics: A loooooong list. I probably read more than I should. My favorite writers include (in no discernible order): Rucka, Busiek, Carey, Gaiman, Wagner, Mack, Claremont, Simone (natch), Priest, Straczynski, Ellis, Brubaker, Bendis, PAD, Waid. I mainly buy comics for the stories/writing, so it's writers that I follow. If an artist I like happens to pair with a writer I like, then happy day!

Interests:
Reading, mostly. Not so much with the non-fiction (a by-product of still being in school), but lots of fiction novels, literature, and comics.
Movies would be runner-up. From Kurosawa to The Marx Bros. to the Coen Brothers and just about anyting in-between.
I am also addicted to Mario Kart Double Dash. It's becoming unhealthy and affecting my driving in real life. ;)

I know Gail asks us not to, but I mostly just lurk here. I rarely have time to post at work, and I'm almost never online at home. Sorry, Gail.

'Sup, my name is jayb00gie

6'3, 300 lbs. I just joined CBR 5 mins ago. I'm also part of News-a-Rama, terrorizing folks over there (they started it).

I'm a native New Yorker who's now living in California. I've been here coming up on ten years. Married, no children… two dogs though, English Bulldogs.

I'm a graphic designer at Warner Bros. Pictures (Submit to me Gail Simone, my taxes pay your salary!) :D See, it's a joke. We're both part of the Warner Bros. family. It's like she's a cop… nevermind

As far as favorite book; All around, hands down "American Flagg." The greatest comic ever made! The new She-Hulk is hot (even though it rips-off "Wolff and Byrd, Supernatural Law), 100 Bullets, PVP, Liberty Meadows, Wanted, Legion, Invincible, Gotham Central and The Goon.

Oh yeah, I'm a dude…

Patrick Ferguson
06-30-2004, 10:42 PM
I just realized I hadn't introduced myself here yet. I really don't post that much, and when I do, it's in spurts, but I do read this board and others a lot.

As long as we're including height, jayb00gie ;), I'm 6'4".

Let's see, I'm Patrick Ferguson. I was Drenn pre-Crisis and Wallcrawl loooong before that. I'm a decent artist, and am slowly getting back into drawing after a long time with no real will to do it at all.

I have a big interest in both music and comedy. And right now, the career options are, in the following order:

1) Rock Star
2) Late-night talk show host
3) Cartoonist.

I'm a high school student, and in the fall I'll be a senior. I've taken four years of Spanish, but am not fluent. I barely passed the AP test, and sort of coasted in the class for the last two years...

Haven't gotten a comic since December. Still read the funnies though.

Occupation: Just left college after a short course and I'm doing a fill in job at the college as a receptionist but I'm waiting to hear back from a telecoms firm about a job that I've had three interviews for already! Still the money is pretty good so I can't grumble!

ladyj2
07-04-2004, 03:30 AM
The name's Jen, the penname ff.net stuck me is ladyj2, so I've kinda run with it. I lurk here and in the DC boards, but will post when the mood strikes (which is why you'll usually see a chunk of 'em all at the same time).

After reading various and sundry comics in my youth, I became a rabid X-fan, until the craze that was the early 90s and publishers expected readers to buy 50,000 versions of the same story. Really, who can continue to buy 20 books just to get the complete X fix a month?? Plus, I discovered better things to spend my money on (re: booze), and the stories were beginning to suck wind as well.

Then, 7 years later, the evil that is the internet announced that Shayera Thal would once again grace the pages of Hawkman. One of my favorite heroes, back again so uncermoniously being kicked to the curb? Sweet! Then I picked up the first issue of Gail's GOP run (God works in mysterious ways my friends), and it's all been downhill from there.

Profession: Bartender/server (altho my mother could die happy if I'd just get a basic admin position)

Current reads:
BOP
Nightwing (mainly because the soap opera freak in me needed to see how the "relationship" was going. Devon can bite me!)
Hawkman (don't ask why. I keep hoping for more...)
Robin
Outsiders (just cuz I can never get enough of Roy Harper)
Cable and Deadpool (Fabian's back! And so are the snappy comments!)
And whatever else my lack of impuse buying control pushes me into.

That said - thanks for working your way through all this drabble. ;)

Mellifera
07-05-2004, 07:57 PM
Hi my name is Mellifera. You can call me M if you like since i have a zillion handles that all start (or sound like they start) with the letter M. That and having a senile gramma has conditioned me to respond to just about anything I'm called.... Its faster than waiting for her to go through everyones name in the family before she remembers mine.

My turn ons are Kitties, vodka, watching Impalas get eatin up by leopards and painted wolves on the discovery channel, thinking about having Bill Clinton's baby, and Neil Gaiman. (No I'm not a well person. But yknow, sanity is overrated. )

I used to spend skads of money on comics, but now that I'm living on my own I cant afford to drop $60 a week on books anymore. Thus the only thing I've been keeping up with is Lucifer's trades. When I was reading I was into Vertigo, DC, and the FF.

As far as what I do, I work at a hippie health food store... which is where I spread most of the misery and despair. I'm trying to get out of it though and I'm considering going for a real estate license soon. One can only take so much of people who buy 100 bucks worth of vitamins for themselves AND their dog......

It strikes me that I haven't done this, and I should.

My name's Michael, and that's all you're getting for now. When I was three, I broke my arm* and while I was in the hospital, my mom brought me two comics: A Gladstone Disney Reprint and ALF. I was doomed. I discovered Spider-Man in 1990 or thereabouts, and my fate was sealed. I am a die-hard superhero fanboy geek, and will be until they put me in the ground. I've branched out my comics interests since then, but I will always love me my spandex warriors.

My great ambition is to write full-time; my mother's great ambition is for me to get paid for it.

I'm now a wise old 22 years of age, and still have a lot of things to do before I die.

Right now, I'm fresh out of college and living with family while I look for employment. I'll be in San Diego; if you see a hopeless young man standing in the Dealers' Room crying, I'll be the guy trying to steal comics out of his backpack.

Green Lantern II
07-06-2004, 05:02 PM
I'm Green Lantern II. I thought that was John Stewart, but then I realized that Hal Jordan is Green Lantern II, and John Stewart is GL III. Too late, though.

I've enjoyed comics since I was 8 or nine, so I've been with them throughout the modern age.

Hobbies are very typical: science fiction, comics, anime. But I work out so it makes up for the geek factor.

This is my first post to the CBR forums.

I started reading this because I was a fan of Gail's work and noticed that this part of the forum is moderated by her. The topics here have been interesting and I decided to join the community at large.

Currently I'm living in Dallas, TX, I'm a student (again, working on masters) and do some free-lance writing work for an RPG company. I'm a writer and have written screenplays (lived and worked in LA for the past 6 years). I'm a native Texan and used to make independent films and shorts - but the writing became first love.

Currently I'm reading BOP, 100 Bullets, Identity Crisis (I was more of a Marvel guy as a kid so I'm trying to familiarize myself with the DC stuff), Ult. FF and everything else Ellis is working on. I'm digging up on Moore's ABC stuff - sad to see that universe is about to be destroyed.

Latest news is that I've ganged up with some artists and I'm getting some splash pages and character work done on a comic I'm writing.

I'm happy to have found these boards and a place to talk about all things comicdom.
