Hi, my name is EZ MOHR, I have lurked here a lot in my four years...but never really came by that often until the last couple of weeks. This forum is starting to become a favorite, as it has things I like to talk about in it a lot.

For those who don't know me, I'm 29 years old, I live in the Bay Area, I've been married for 10 years, I have 7 children (6 Girls, 1 Boy), I'm a police Sgt., I work patrol in a major US City, and I'm on the SWAT team.

Anyway, love the forum, like the writer who's involved(like her personality and topics...not so much her comic book writing for the most part) and hope to look more and post more. Thanks.

Hi

I've been lurking on these boards more and more often of late
as I drift around CBR in search of interesting debate, so figured it's time I introduced myself (besides the fact it'd be rude to join in without doing so)

I'm Joey(Deacon)Blues, or Tom in the real world
I'm a male and a youth/community worker.

I've only just returned to comics proper in the last year or so after a ten year break.

although I did keep up with selected Trades from Vertigo, Max and 2000ad
plus the odd batman and strangely enough Birds of Prey.
(Strange because it was a rare exception and not what brought me here)

Nowadays I've been enticed back into the comic shop for super hero flipantry (in the form of Spiderman and Captain Britain) but I still can't handle proper literary comics at the glacial pace of 22 pages a month so trades & books are more my thing.

I'm starting to bore myself now so I'll Stop.

Peace & Happiness
JoeyBlues

Oh, and i have sadly failed to learn any language other than english, despite a great deal of effort. but I've also learnt when you're drunk together there's a universal language that'll get you by regardless, but I'm sober now so it's lost to me.

Calvin Government
10-31-2008, 04:23 PM
Ah...I'm Cal. I occasionally drop by here and lurk, but in a fit of boredom today as I prepare for midnight, I decided to make an account. I'm a guy, twenty-three years old, and I'm studying to be a librarian right now. I speak English - barely - and living in Japan for a time actually made my Japanese notably worse, which is pretty bad considering how terrible it was to begin with, so no awesome language fluencies.

I tend to really dig noir-ish comics, so I'm a huge Brubaker/Rucka fan. Few writers can make me smile consistently like Gail does, few writers can make me passionate like Ellis does, and few writers can inspire me to think like Morrison does, but I have a whole host of other writers I fanboy like a madman.

In my freetime, I do a little writing. I hope to write comics one day after I find an artist and chain him/her to me, but for now I mostly stick to short fiction. November is National Novel Writing Month (http://www.nanowrimo.org/), though, and since I have such copious amounts of free time between graduate school and job hunting, I figured I'd try and do a NaNo this year, so wish me luck. I also keep a blog (http://vsexplosion.blogspot.com/) about comics, books, and a card game I play.

And, of course, I'm sure that delurking will provide an excellent opportunity for me to slack off when it comes to my writing. So...uhhh...yay? Anyway, nice to meet you all, and Happy Halloween!

Calvin Government
10-31-2008, 04:51 PM
Well, heyas Calvin!

Just out of curiosity ... why did you choose that as your CBR name?

Honestly? Because my name actually is Calvin, and I finished reading Max Barry's Jennifer Government (http://www.amazon.com/Jennifer-Government-Max-Barry/dp/1400030927/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225492878&sr=8-1) about a month back. Jennifer's partner in the book is Calvin Government, and when I was trying to think of a username, I looked over on my bookshelf and saw Jennifer Government staring back at me. And thus it came to be that I was called Calvin Government.

Calvin Government?

I'm going to have a hard time trusting you.

That's understandable, and it's your right as a citizen to tell me that! In fact, I applaud your use of the principles that make my Government the Government of your hearts and souls. You're an excellent example to your fellow citizens, and I hope that everyone will learn from your sterling example the importance of civic responsibilities.

Remember, everyone, it starts here, with you. You all are the lifeblood of my Government. It's because of you that we have food. It's because of you that we have entertainment. People questioning my Decisions have caused a great deal of growth in a variety of areas when it comes to the burgeoning social responsibility of my Public.

But I'm going to haul you in for questioning anyway.

Hello, the group,

My wife and I both read comics and are big DC fans, but follow other titles that tickle our fancy. We both have come to really like Gail Simone's work with the Birds of Prey, Secret Six and Wonder Woman.

I think she does some great, fun stories that really make an impact in today's comics.

Thanks for all the great work, Gail!

Im Bluemeanie on here and other online nerdy stuff, but Richard in real life. Found this forum as a result of a link from my mate Hod, so blame him.

I'm Welsh, a lifelong comics nerd and have recently got into writing some stuff. Keep your fingers crossed, should hear today or tomorrow if I get to write a 150 pager for a small press comic company.

Love crappy 80's horror films and redheads and yesterday Nicola Scott wrote on my facebook wall and I had myself a "nerd moment". Which for those of you who have seen Trekkers is like a mini "Brent Break"

Hello!! *waves furiously*

I'm Iz, an English bird living in Wales, and I'm nuts about comic-books, weddings and shoes  I've only got back into comics in the last year or so, after a huge lapse which my other half (Bluemeanie above) put a stop to by throwing Marvel Zombies at me and I haven't looked back since :)

I'm an indie-fan most of all, but that's mainly because I'm still catching up with all the established and long-running characters in the Marvel and DC universes.

Favourite series' of all time include: The Walking Dead, Preacher, Welcome to Tranquility, Fables, Battle Pope, The Boys, Hack/Slash & Ubu Bubu.

Favourite writers: Robert Kirkman, Gail Simone (woot!), Garth Ennis, Tim Seeley & Jamie Smart

Favourite artists: Charlie Adlard, Stefano Casellia, Tony Moore, Nicola Scott, Neil Googe, Thomas Boatwright & Rufus Dayglo.

Favourite on-going series' : Secret Six (soooooooooooooooo awesome) and Crossed (sooooo creepy)

A friend recommended I read Welcome to Tranquility and it was totally fantastic :) Once I'd got the Gail Simone bug I checked out Wonder Woman and I'm now addicted to Secret Six - creepy, funny, clever and brilliant all at the same time.
