Huh, I already made 2 posts, but I haven't introduced myself, how rude of me. Well I'm a 26 year old software tester from Montreal. I've been lurking for quite some time, and finally decided to take the plunge and join.

I sorta lost touch with comics for a good chunk of time. Then the past 2/3 years found some comic sites online and started getting back into at least keeping in up with what's going on. I'm reading Fables trades and now WW.

***Hi Gail, my name is RAFFY, very pleased to meet you.
I'm an Administrative Supervisor and am a major fan of Wonder Woman, Batman,Birds of Prey, All-Star Superman, Justice League, Justice Society and th Titans.

***Just English and Tagalog (Filipino)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Gail

**By the way Gail, I read your debut issue for Wonder Woman (# 14) and I loves it!!

I love Diana's confidence , combat skills and her compassion (she was able to make allies of he foes with the Albuno Warrior Gorillas)

The mystery of the Amazon Island prisoners and Hippolyta's past experience with them is exciting.

Very Kinetic issue and her vulnerability as Diana Prince does create a lot of suspense which I love. Thanks for putting your heart in it.

Also- I enjoy The Atom a lot. Thanks for giving us a cool Asian Superhero with a lot of personality. (And thanks for NOT making him a "stereotype" character.) With all due respect to the Ray Palmer version (whom I find bland), I prefer Ryan Choi.

And I hope you can visit my humble Wonder Woman Fansite- Wonderverse-

****Hi YABS, Thanks for welcoming me here. Many of us fans have been waiting for this to happen and now Gail Simone's run has begun.
I just appreciate her talent so much. Prior to reading her "Birds of Prey", I had no idea that the Non-Metahuman Superheroines could be such exciting characters. It really just goes to show that it's all about characterization and execution of the narrative that makes just as much difference as the costume.

The character's nobility and heroism shows whether they are superpowered or not (or in a wheelchair like Babs Gordon) Its just the kind of thing that makes readers want to keep reading a title contionusly and with lots of enthusiasm.

All my Best to Ms. Gail and the rest of our Wonder Friends!

I can't recall if I ever filled this page out and I'm not really up to check ing through so 600+ posts of mine. So here it goes:

James Roberts

male

factory worker (yeah, it sucks, but it pays the bills)

I usually follow creators around to various comics rather than comic loyalty. I'm mainly a Marvel guy and the X-Men are my favorite although I don't always enjoy what creators do with them. Currently Ultimate Spider-Man is my favorite title. I'm liking X-Men Emperor something or other because my favorite character Rachel Summers is finally acting reasonably well in character again. I was highly disappointed when the character was regressed back to noob status when Claremont brought her back to Uncanny.

Like a lot of comics readers I have some artistic and writing abilities and self-published my own comic. I wish I could say it was picked up by a larger publisher but it wasn't so I'm going back to my first love of uper-heroes to try again. And this time I'm doing all the art.

I'm excited about 2008 because I'm working a lot of mandatory over-time and I hope I can use some of that money to get back to Origins and Dragon Con after missing them for the past couple of years.

The 'Dungeonmaster' refers to my love of Dungeons and Dragons and maybe even some more insidious activities. :evilsmile

I'm a DC guy. While I own a few X-Men and Spiderman comics, I'm not really into Marvel that much. My favourite comics are Batman-related. I highly enjoyed Identity Crisis, even though, the "mystery killer" was pretty lame and lazily done, to me anyways. I love Star Wars and Star Trek TNG. Not so much into the original series.

Hi all!

My name is Laura Miello.

I posted here one time a while back (when Gail was kind enough to recommend my podcast), and I've been lurking a bit ever since. I work at a law firm in NYC, but I'm hoping it's not a permanent gig. Outside of comics, I like all manner of geeky stuff, but also non-geeky stuff. I read a lot, lately mostly just books with pictures in them, but I usually read a lot of novels too. Sadly, I only speak English fluently, but I can manage some Spanish and Italian, though I frequently get the two mixed up. I took some Russian in college, but it's mostly lost to me.

Spider-Man is my favorite character, but I'm not currently reading any of his titles, maybe when Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane comes back. I do read Spider-Girl though. I read anything written by Jeff Parker or drawn by John Romita, Jr. After growing up exclusively on Spider-Man and X-Men titles, I'm reading a lot of DC comics now, like BoP, WW and Booster Gold. I'm trying to get into more non-superhero stuff. While I think that Captain America is probably the best superhero comic going, X-Men First Class is just about my favorite thing ever. I read a lot more stuff than that, but it's hard to keep track of it all.

Also, I have a tendency to say more than I need to. Sorry for the long introduction.

Hello,

My name is Alain Virgin (yes my actual name, feel pity) and I'm from Toronto (please pass on my thanks to the Dodsons for drawing my city as it actually appears today as opposed to forty years ago).

I'm a child of the 80's and working on the seventh year of my BA in English at Tyndale University College and Seminary. I'm married with a kid on the way. English is my first language and I speak French very poorly, I also read Greek but it is worse than my French. I have bizarre and incongruous interests and have a little pet idea that comic books will eventually be accepted as serious literature (well certain ones).

Hey there, ladies and gentlemen. I'm new to this board and site so thanks for providing a non-intrusive way for me to introduce myself.

Name: Jemir Johnson

Gender: 100 percent Manimal, Baby!:) (uhhh ... that's my pathetic, break the ice way of saying ... male)

Occupation: I fancy myself a creator (writer) at night who pays bills as a shipping manager by day.

Comics: I'll always have a fondness for the spandex genre but I've melted away from that in recent years. Nothing calculated, don't feel as if I've gone away ... it just sort of happened. These days I'm more of a crime fiction, new wave & Retro pulp kind'a guy (Manimal, baby! Manimal:) !) with a sprinkle (a macho sprinkle lol) of war comic lover blended in.

Hobbies: Huge (American) football fan, I also like to play basketball and softball when the opportunities come. Reading as often as possible is high on my list as well.

Thanks again for the platform, guys. Hope to see you all around here more often. All the best:) .

I don't think I've introduced myself before although I've been around here a couple years.

My name is Christopher. I'm a US gummint civilian employee currently living and workiing in the International Zone in Baghdad. I grew up in Texas but spent most of my adult life in the DC area. I love horses, baseball, fencing, running and yoga.

I've read mostly DC comics off and on my whole life. Since there isn't much else to do here in the IZ, I began reading comics again, including the Countdown series. I also bought all four volumes of 52 and devoured them in a weekend. They do ship comics to the IZ and it's pretty reliable. I also read Batman, Detective, Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Jonah Hex, among others.

Interestingly I was reading a Jonah Hex comic when the mortars started falling, BOOM BOOM! Suddenly Jonah Hex had sound effects!

I also love reading swashbucklers, such as the Scarlet Pimpernel, the Musketeers, Zorro, anything by Sabatini or Dumas (hence my screen name).

My name is Erik, I'm a 27 year old Graphic Design student from Portland, Oregon, and live with my girlfriend of the past 5 years and our two cats (one of whom is currently deathgripping my leg). I've also lived in both San Francisco and Sacramento, but for some reason, keep finding myself coming back to the Pacific Northwest. I blame the rain, the beer, and the trees, which are probably embedded in my genetic code by now.

For anyone wondering why I'm 27 and still in college, I'm one of those people that did a lot of stupid, reckless things as a teenager and wound up working in call centers until I had a nervous breakdown, walked out of my job, and back into school.

I've been reading comics since 1986, but stopped around 1996. About 2 years ago, I got back into it after reading trades of Blade of the Immortal and Transmetropolitan, but I'm generally more cynical and suspicious of the industry than I was as a kid. In addition to comics, I'm a fan and former DJ of experimental/electronic/noise music, watch a lot of foreign films and anime, read odd bits of fiction and cyberpunk from writers like Haruki Murakami and William Gibson, muck with computers, obsess over politics and history, and generally smoke too many cigarettes and drink too much coffee.

My Mom grew up with two comic creators, Chris Warner and Randy Emberlin, which doesn't really have any bearing on anything, but still kind of amuses me.

i dig comics, but not as much as i used to.

my all time favourite writers are Moore, Gaiman and Morrison (basically i like writers who can screw with my brain). on the guys and gals in tights side, i like Brubaker and Brian K Vaughn, too. And that Mark Millar is no slouch.

i can read a well written comic with bad art, but i cant read a badly written comic with amazing art.

my current favourite title is The Exterminators.

i recently read an X Men comic for the first time since Morrison's run on the main title and i had no idea what the hell was going on (and no, dont try an explain it to me).

Welcome aboard to the new kids.

AAAwwww... I never got a welcome gif, not even as a part of a massive welcome. I'm sad now :( :p

And welcome all. That means I'm no longer the "new guy", sweet!

I could've sworn I'd posted here but apparently never did..

Name: Chiroptera (Seriously, been my nick name for the past 8 or so years I respond to it faster than I do my real name now)
Occupation: Journalist/Novelist
Location: Dallas, TX (Yes, Gail, Zeus comics is my local comic shop and I will punch anyone who says there's a body store in this nation!)
Gender: Male, not always proudly. :P
Favorite comics: Wonder Woman (regardless of how crappy the writing may be, as long as it's starring Diana I'll read it), Batman, Catwoman, Detective Comics, and JSA

Note worthy factoids: I care about the characters. I don't give a flying rats ass about the universe around them the characters make the comic for me.
Steve Rogers dies? I stopped reading marvel, permanently. Won't be back unless I hear he's returned.
Same went for Superman, when they killed him off I didn't read any comics at all for nearly three years. It took alot of urging from other comic readers to get me to return to the medium.

The characters make the comic for me, the writer and the artist bring it to life, but it's the characters adventures that keep me coming back not the quality of writing or art. Kill off Bruce Wayne in Batman? I'm gone. Kill of Diana in Wonder Woman? Gone. Pretty much do -anything- that really screws up the life or story of a character I care about and I no longer have a reason to be looking into the story.

Why, yes, I am very picky, thank you for noticing! :D

Hey.

I just posted on the Alan Moore thread and I don't think I've posted on YABS before, so it felt like it'd be courtesy for me to introduce myself.

My name's Niall, like it says. I'm from Dundalk, which is a town in the North East of the Republic of Ireland; it's a border town, just below the border with the North.

I've just done a Masters in Cultural Studies; my dissertation was on the ideas of Frederic Jameson and Carl Jung (it was called The Consequences of Romance; I really loved that title when it occurred to me:D ). I'm currently working in a Vodafone call centre, to fill a hole.

I love Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Kurt Busiek. I love early Frank Miller, loads of Stan Lee's stuff with Jack Kirby back in the sixties.Love Bob Dylan, and folky rock and country music in general. My favourite modern band, though, is maybe the Flaming Lips, which are neither folky or country, go figure (I'm pretty sure they just hypnotised me when I saw them live, but, man, was it worth it).

Um... that's about the size of it, cheers.

Compared to a lot of the other postmodernists, he's difficult but generally more insightful and worth the effort, imo.

My dissertation was one of the hardest but most satisfying things I've ever done.

Seems this is the place to say "hi".

Name's Chris and I'm a community college career student looking for a major. Sadly, "cowboy" wasn't an option.

I cook, dishwash, and wait tables for a living. Fun Fun.

I'm a pro wrestling geek and a fan of DC comics. I like the capes, the bright colors, and that old-fashioned "whiz-bang" of books like JSA and Robinson's Starman. My days as a DM have long-passed, but I still enjoy some Dungeons & Dragons when my fellow dice-chuckers are up for it.

Hello! I guess I should introduce myself, as requested.

My name is Shaun, I'm a 42 year old male. I am a professor of political science/international relations at a small university in New Brunswick, Canada. I am currently on leave, for family reasons, so I am actually in Alberta, Canada, at the moment.

Like most academics, I write books and articles. I am currently working on two different books, both about different aspects of institutions and security in the Asia Pacific region. Right now, I'm supposed to be writing an article about "humanitarian intervention" as a chapter in an edited volume. But I'm procrastinating! (Curse the internet!)

I've been a big fan of comics most of my life and I've recently regained the habit, though I am trying to keep the number of comics I buy to a relatively small number per month. Boy, prices have gone up! :)

My interests include reading (I like history books and am currently working on Tony Judt's "Postwar") and drawing (though I've let this go for a while). I am on a quest to acquire various physical skills that I've not bothered to learn until now. Recently, I learned how to swim and I am working on downhill skiing. I want to dive in the Pacific and ski Whistler at least once before I hit 60! I also enjoy traveling, and my work usually allows me to do a fair amount of that. I was in Germany and Switzerland last May, went to Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines in the summer and visited England in September. I'm hoping to do more travelling soon.

I posted in the "I'm new here thread", but have not properly introduced myself to the YABS community. I'm 43, male, work long days for an equipment manufacturer in the LA 'burbs, and a long time comic fan. I'm not actively collecting these days, but I was mostly a Marvel reader when I was younger. Later, I liked many different books with various companies, Vertigo, Image, and a fair representation of Indie stuff.
I like the loose, mostly civil and fun nature of many of the threads in YABS, and I look forward to mixing more as I spend more time in here.

Runaway
03-20-2008, 03:45 PM
Hi all,
I've been lurking for a while, but that's dumb, so hey there. I'm a journalist/magazine editor in NYC who got unexpectedly hooked on comics about three years ago, and now they consume a good deal of my free time (although I've been squeezing in some Super Smash Brothers Brawl in the past few weeks), and I've recently added to it by starting the world's 16-trillionth comic book blog. Gail is, naturally, a particular heroine of mine.

Runaway
03-20-2008, 03:57 PM
Dangit, I didn't read Gail's instructions carefully. I'm a girl, my favorite comics titles change weekly but I'm a mainstream superhero type, I speak Spanish fluently and Turkish not-so-fluently. I also adore the animated DCU and am running out of episodes on the Netflix queue.

If you mean an actual runaway from home, then no, not really (although it could probably be applied to certain points in my life)... but I am a big fan of the comic book Runaways. :)

Chadicus
03-28-2008, 11:54 AM
I'm Chadicus. I was a teacher, now am a tech student, parent of 2, husband of one, cleaner of 1 cat's litter box.

I'm also a writer. I have a story coming out in net month's Barren Worlds anthology from Hadley-Rille books, and an online serial I just launched and will be updating every two weeks. Not fan-fic, but fiction set in a superhero universe of my own creation. But not starring super-heroes, exactly.

It's http://meremortals.wordpress.com

I also have a pop culture blog at therandomavenger.blogspot.com

I'm a longtime Gail fan. She's one of the best writers, in any medium, working today. I only reads comics in trades these days, so I need to get caught up at the rest of her BOP run, and am desperate for WW trades.

Nobody does the action/humor/drama fusion the way Gail does.

Rumor33
03-29-2008, 01:14 PM
Hey, my names Katie. I'm a girl and a full time animation student/part time bookseller at a chain store.

My three favorite books right now are Booster Gold, Blue Beetle and Green Arrow/Black Canary. BG and BB because they're just all around fabulous. GA/BC because it's my favorite art right now and I love the characters, even thought the writing is hit or miss for me and Canary's characterization isn't nearly as good as some other *ahem* incarnations of the character.

Favorite older comics are Birds of Prey 1-100 (just lost something for me after Canary left), Pre Infinite Crisis Teen Titans, 52, and most of the last Green Arrow run.

And I'm an ugly American so I only speak English, :D

Most of the time I tend to forget about doing board-introductions, but I've been enjoying the posts here lately, so I've succumbed at last.

Quick intro: I actually registered here back in 2004, but still tended to do most of my comics-oriented posting on another site. In recent months said site has deteriorated, and so I find myself gravitating to CBR more often, since the topics here are much more interesting than they are over in Dullsville.com (or is it Snarksville.com?)

Hope to post here on a more regular basis this year.

Well... I'm me.

I'm a 28 year old guy who manages a small retail store. I'm an fan of scifi novels and historical fiction, some-time online gamer, occasional rock climber, full-time Buddhist and obsessed lifelong fly fisherman. I listen to depression-era blues, folk and jazz, as well as some punk rock. I live in Colorado - who would live anywhere else, given the choice?

I've only recently rediscovered the joy of reading comics, but the experience has been great so far. My original plan was to pick up some trades and graphic novels and intersperse them with my general fiction reading as a kind of 'leavening,' so to speak, but I've caught the bug again and have been spending a lot of time in the back issues section reconnecting with my childhood friends!

Anyway, I love the forums, and though I lurk more than I post, consider this my greeting and thanks to all of you for a really great community. I'm glad to be here!

I enjoy amateur drama, having worked on stage, backstage and directorially and I'm currently rehearsing for a production of Arsenic and Old Lace.

Comics wise my true love lies with the Runaways, X-Men and X-Factor, with a good helping of the Fanta Four, Casanova, Exiles, and Avengers young and old on the side.

Uhm... Hi. I'm Rachel. I'm a 25-year old transsexual lesbian (for lack of a better term) living in New Britain, CT. I work retail and hate every second of it. My ambition is to be a comics writer. I absolutely will have something self-published by the end of this year (I've put it off too damn long). I'm a magician (mainly along the chaos magician lines), but terribly out of practice. I'm into punk rock and other related genres, but I'm also a bit boring and never go to any shows. I have clinical depression, but lately it hasn't been too bad.

I'm a bit all-over-the-map as far as my comics reading goes. I'm kind of a voracious reader. Favorite creators include: Gail Simone (why else would I be here?), Grant Morrison, Harvey Pekar, Steve Gerber, Jack Kirby, Carla Speed McNeil, Greg Rucka, Peter Milligan, Mike Allred, Los Bros Hernandez, Alison Bechdel, Alan Moore, Brian K. Vaughan, Warren Ellis, Peter David, Sam Kieth, Will Eisner, Cameron Stewart, J. H. Williams III, Daniel Clowes, Peter Bagge, Kevin Maguire, Kieth Giffen, Jhonen Vasquez, Roman Dirge, David B., J. M. DeMatteis, Charles Burns, Rich Burlew, and a great, great many others. Due to lack of accessability of a comic shop, I mostly read paperbacks and hardcovers.

Uhm... I have a tendency to ramble. Sorry if I've done that.

HI Everyone!

I'm new to posting, but have been lurking for a while.

I love comics, and most importantly, I love Gail's work!

I live in the Dallas area, and plan to be at CAPE tomorrow, where I hope to meet a lot of cool YABSers.

Hi! Thanks to bluecanarykit and darediva, I have found my way here!

I'm Jess, a twenty-something retail associate with plans to go to grad school in physics in a couple of years. I'm getting my feet back under me for now, working and drawing and writing and studying. I'm from central Texas, lived in Arkansas for a while, but have moved back and will probably be staying in the grand old Lone Star State for a while. Don't worry, I'm not a die-hard Texan, I just live here. :-)

I was at the YABS dinner at CAPE this year. I was the limerick-writer sitting between Scott and Darediva and across from the sleeping Finn. I hope I didn't offend you with my limerick, Bert. I certainly didn't mean to, and I apologize if I did. :-)

I'm new to comics and graphic novels, and most of what I've read has come directly out of the hands of bluecanarykit. I've read a lot of Lea Hernandez and Terry Moore. I'm always open to suggestions on what to read next! I have a lot of time on my hands to write and draw (I suck at both right now, but I'm working on getting better) and read, so pile 'em on me, if you so desire!

That's about all I know to say. I loved meeting everyone at the dinner, which is why Kit sent me this way. I'm a lurker at heart, but I'll do my best to not just read without posting. But even if you don't hear from me, I'm still here, reading away!

Hello to whoever reads this thread!

I just found this forum; can't imagine why I didn't run across it sooner, but I guess it's just because I'm usually fashionably late. :)

So, about me...

Name's Emily, but I go by foresthouse almost everywhere, except when I go by charishawk (I know, I know. It's hard having two secret identities.) As can be guessed by my name, I'm a gal. I'm also a lawyer, and a freelance web designer. I work for some neat folks on that end.

In terms of personality, I'm pretty laid back, though I tend to go through periods of obsession when I fangirl stuff (i.e. I discover something I like and suddenly must. have. ALL OF IT.) This causes dents in my budget but happiness in my heart, so it's all good. I'm a complete and total nerd, but I'm not ashamed. I like to chat about pop-culture and nerd stuff, and spend a fair amount of time over at my favorite forum, Snarkfest (http://snarkphoenix.15.forumer.com/). I also geek out about stuff on my LiveJournal (http://foresthouse.livejournal.com).

In terms of stuff I'm a fan of, comics-wise, I'm pretty equal opportunity, to be honest, though I'm particularly partial to characters that incorporate some humor. I *heart* the X-Men (Wolverine! Rogue! W00t!), Iron Man, Spider-man, etc., etc., as well as Batman, Superman, and more. Currently, my favorite character (and I expect this will continue) is Marvel's Deadpool (squee!). The Merc-with-a-Mouth has stolen my heart with his insanity and hilarity. *g* I'm also really enjoying the Runaways run that's currently going on. Outside of Marvel and DC, I love V for Vendetta, other Alan Moore stuff, Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, Sandman, etc. (basically everything Neil Gaiman ever writes), and more. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting some, but there we go.

Outside of comics, I'm a huge Terry Pratchett fan, and also the Vice Chair and Webmaster for the North American Discworld Convention (http://www.nadwcon.org/), for which he will be Guest of Honor in September of 2009. I'll also be interviewing Terry for SFRevu when I go to the UK Con in August this year (fun!). I'm also a giant Dylan Moran fan - he's an Irish stand-up comedian who also co-wrote and acted in the fantastically funny Black Books. To finish off, music-wise, Matthew Good (http://www.matthewgood.org/music/)owns my soul. If you've never heard him, check out his music, because he's fantastic.

So...that's me!

P.S. If there's one thing I lack, it might just be...brevity. Oh well.

I guess this would be a reintroduction, since I believe I introduced myself to the board last year....and never posted. I post sometimes in the DC and Marvel forums, but you can tell from the low post count, it is pretty sporadic.
I like this board though. A lot of passionate posters, and great debates. I'm the kind of guy who will read a thread, and want to make a point, and I discover someone has already made the point I wanted to make. Curses, foiled again.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to hanging out in here! I'll bring the beer and single malt.

So, who's the new guy? He's been standing over there in the corner for a while now. I can't tell if he's shifty. Maybe he's shy. Or maybe it's just gas.

Hello. It's the new guy.
I'm Adhamh. Basically, it is the Scottish spelling for Adam. Some people call it pretentious. I tell them to blame my parents.
I'm a recovering comiholic (2 years of sobriety) but I may fall off the wagon soon. I was a DC/Vertigo boy, mostly.
I live in Kentucky and it may sound surprising, but I have all my teeth, I wear shoes, and I have never made out with my sister.
I work for the state's history museum as an educator, researcher, actor, and playwright.
I lean (well, more like leap) to the left and am also left handed.
I enjoy playing all kinds of musical instruments and will attempt to play any instrument I can get my hands on. My newest addition is the baritone saxophone (which my cats absolutely LOVE, by the way).
Vegetarian. But not a vege-nazi. Hey, enjoy that steak.
Divorced with one child, a girl.
Preferred reading (not including comics) includes Shakespeare (I also perform it whenever I can), histories, biographies and memoirs, folk stories from around the world and Norse myths.
I enjoy console gaming. I have a 360 and ache for a Wii.
I would call my self an introvert, but I am able to put on my extrovert pants when I need to.
Nice to meet you. Looking forward to hanging around.

One Filmmaker
07-05-2008, 11:36 PM
My name is Donald E. Reynolds. I am a writer-creator that dabbles in the IT field- just to pay some bills. I learned to read, reading comics. When I was in my mid-to-late teens I started submitting ideas to Marvel and DC comics. Nearly always, I received a customized rejection letter- this was actually encouraging BECAUSE someone WAS reading my work. Jump ahead a few years and while in college I started to write screenplays. I submitted scripts and was NOT receiving any responses.

After college, I got a job, got a girl, got a “life” and lost my passion. After several years and TWO near death experiences, I re-looked at my life and re-focused on writing- screenwriting. Over the last few years- I have taken on a writing/creating partner, we had an agent, we optioned a film script that was in pre-production with a $10M budget in New Orleans- when Hurricane Katrina hit, we wrote-directed-produced a short film (Phobia) with a $25k budget and a 50 person crew that was a SAG signatory. That film premiered at a film festival in NYC in 2007.

I love writing. I am passionate about nothing more (except wife and baby son). But despite everything, I am still waiting for that big break.

Don.

Hello all,

My name is Brandon and I am a fan of comics, horror, and sci-fi. I enjoy make-up effects (as a hobby, not a profession).

I'm a nostalgic type who still thinks those old 6 Million Dollar Man episodes are cool. I am an artist but mostly sculptures. Never tried my hand at comic art but I still toy with the idea sometimes.

Brandon.

We lost a huge thread on this, so please, new and old posters alike, please tell me about yourself, cause I SUCK at names!

Name, gender, occupation, and what comics you like, and...

just for my reference, any languages you speak fluently aside from English.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Gail
Well,

My name is Steve, I'm 22, 23 in November.
I work part-time in Los Angeles, at an Internet company (not an ISP).
I'm currently at a community college because, while in high school, I didn't have focused goals.
My short-term goal is to go to a university eventually for a bachelor's degree.
After that, move out of my parent's house, maybe somewhere closer to work, 'cause a 20 mile commute is no fun, especially with infamous LA traffic.

I had an epiphany a couple of years ago regarding my half-assed religious beliefs imposed on me by my parents. As a result of that, I no longer believe in religion, and I'm not sure if there is a god or not.

When it comes to comics, I read:
Batman, Detective Comics, Action Comics (sometimes), Blue Beetle, Fables, Immortal Iron Fist, Uncanny X-Men, X-Men: Legacy, Wolverine, Amazing Spider-Man, a handful of Marvel Adventures titles every now and then, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, The Goon, Runaways, Hellboy/BPRD, all the dark horse star wars titles, and that's all for now.

I speak Spanish fluently, and living in California, it comes in handy sometimes, but I rarely have a use for it.

Nice to meet you all. I could've said more, but I guess this is enough.

edit: any guitar players here? I've been playing since '03, but I never practice a lot. I have a cheap acoustic, and an electric ESP.

Hi, I'm socool. I'm 22 and I'm currently serving in the United States Air Force. I'm stationed in Okinawa, Japan right now but hopefully I'll get to hit up Europe soon. I'm originally from Dallas, TX but I have lived in Michigan, California, and West Virginia. I'm Mexican for the most part but my ancestors weren't picky and as sad as this i, I can't speak any Spanish. I have 4 children, 2 boys and two girls.

My comic knowledge isn't abundant but I do like alot of Marvel characters and I'm really into video games, mostly PS games though.

I joined CBR because after reviewing several threads, I was glad to see how laid back yet informed many people are. Also, there is a very broad variety of humor here which is right up my alley

I'm so baka, I should have done this weeks ago.

I'm Kitty, and I'm a refugee from Newsarama who couldn't take the new format they've got going over there (trust me, it's a clusterpluck). I'm a bartender, from New Orleans LA. I love damned near anything 80's, sci fi, Star Wars, anime, heavy metal music, etc. I'm a pagan iconoclastic geek with a cajun temper and a take no shit attitude.

I first became familiar with Ms Simone from her WiR site, and have a huge amount of respect for her bringing the issue to light. I consider myself a feminist, and there's nothing I'd like better than to live in an amazonian matriarchy.

I like to think about writing and come up with story ideas about which I write notes and sometimes even start, but that love doesn't seem to extend to actually finishing anything. I suck. :(

I have a girlfriend named Tara who lives with me, she's from Florida originally. She lurks here now that I come here and she might actually join up sometime.

The plus side to my writing ability is while I may be bad at finishing solo projects, I'm great at interactive ones, usually in the form of text-based RPG's. It's probably one of my biggest passions.

That's more than enough about me.

Hi everyone, new poster, been lurking around for a bit. My name is Donovan, but given that I have a passion for soccer and that name has some unusual US connotations, I usually go by "D". I'm 30, and involved in the fascinating world of Management and Technology Consulting. If you find the taste of bile in the back of your throat reading that last sentence, I do not blame you.

I've decided to delurk after reading some very insightful posts here, and also to express my thanks, for what they're worth to Gail herself. While I read a few comics growing up (much of it shaped by the Giffen/DeMatteis JLI), I had pretty much stopped reading comics for the better part of a decade and a half. About three months ago, I picked up the trade of Identity Crisis, and realized that people were still writing interesting stories.

That's not the interesting bit, or the thank you bit. The thank you bit was after lending Identity Crisis to my wife, which she devoured on a business trip, she promptly went out in search of more, in the process buying pretty much every Gail Simone trade on Birds of Prey, which she loved. As a result, she's buying weekly (including WW) and now we have another shared passion. Always happy to learn that there are still new things to get into as a couple, even if we've been together about 10 years. So my thanks to Gail for closing the deal, and making Wednesday's an easy date at the comic shop for us.

Welcome to the board, you likely lad. :)

I must confess that Identity Crisis helped me delve further into comics, as well.

(Sue Dibny's arbitrary rape, and how dumb it was to have Green Lantern defeated by Deathstroke withstanding.....)

I hope that you stick around. I look forward to having many conversations with you.

~Hola!

My name is Marcelo Maldonado Jr.. I'm 20, and live in Central Arkansas. I've been reading comics since I was in middle school and it took me a year before I realized that Superman and Iron Man were not in the same universe. I'm a transporter for a couple labs at the local hospital. I only recently started this job, but it's the shizz! I only work during the week, which means every weekend free. I'm full-time and I get benefits! Yay for good health! I had been at a local restaurant that is pretty famous; for it's cheese-dip of all things! I worked there for 2.5 years and was a manager before I left. I do sub for them everyonce in awhile.

I read a plethora of titles! I mean it. I read a ton of Marvel and a ton of DC! My favorite DC title is JSA, but it's really a tie with Birds of Prey. Now, now, I'm not trying to suck up or anything, but I really do love the book! I think it's because of my deep love of the Charlies Angels movies and the fact that it reminds me of them. I didn't start reading until about issue #100, and I fell in love with the title instantly! I also read JLA, Teen Titans, Legion of Super-Heroes, Batman and the Outsiders, and I'm really looking forward to Justice League and Secret Six! (I've got the biggest crush on Catman!)

I am hispanic, but I can't really speak Spanish all that well, but I do understand the majority of it.

Thanks for having me! Love ya Gail!

Hola. I am Bryan. Male. 17. Cashier. I hate my job. I will read any comic genre based on who wrote it. I like superheroes, but hey, who doesn't?

To Gail specifically, the first thing I read that you penned was JLA: the Hypothetical Woman. Brilliant stuff. Also, JLU: Double Date was super brilliant.

Hi. I'm new and consider myself to be quite OCD/DC. I have every Birds of Prey collection, so I'm very excited to see the great Gail Simone has her own little forum here :)

I love BoP, Huntress, Black Canary and Oracle are my favourite DC characters. Would anyone know why issues #6-19, 22-38 and 44-55 are absent from any collections? I would love to read them, but I don't read single issues.

Sorry I don't know why those issues aren't collected. Someone here must know why or have a good theory as to why.

Let's see.....My name's Kayla, I was born July 27th, 1995, and I'm homeschooled.

I enjoy Teen Titans(Basically all of the different ones. Teen Titans, Titans, Teen Titans: Year One(So sad it's ending), Tiny Titans, et cetera, et cetera.), Birds Of Prey(I LOVE Oracle and Black Canary. They're such awesome characters. Huntress is starting to grow on me, too.), staring on Green Arrow/Black Canary, getting into All-Star Batman, and then just a few random things here and there. I won't read anything Marvel, but I won't hate anyone who likes Marvel.
