Classic Spidey costume for mine. I didn't mind the Ben Reilly costume but my second fav of all time would be the Spidey Black & White costume.

I don't know if this is the right question to ask, since, as Spidey, he only wore the first.

The black & white costume was my favorite. I detest the red & blue costume (the design is ugly IMO). Though I rarely reflect on it when I'm reading the actual comic book.

ACK!

Considering how controversial the black and white symbiote costume (Spidey's "Ink blot" phase) was, I'm surprised it wasn't one of the choices.

My chioce from the poll: Spidey 2099

My chioce from every spidey costume there was/is in comics: The spidey-armor costume. Loved it, sad that it was destroyed so quickly. Best spidey costume IMO.

You left out the black costume. Even after Peter rid himself of the symbiote, he created a costume that looked just like the symbiote before he switched back to his classic costume after he fought Venom the first time.

As for the one that best suits the character, you'd have to go with the classic. Although, it's not my favorite. The coolest was definitely the black costume with Ben Reilly's updated version and "2099" tying for second. Those were some badass costumes.

I loved the black costume and wish they would use it occasionally... but that wasn't included in the options... so I went with classic.

NOTHING Ben Rielly related was any good.

Ben Reilly rules, and so does his Spidey costume. :)

Seriously, I always liked that costume. For some reason I like the web shooters on the outside. And with a slight redisign (lose the sweatshirt) the Scarlet Spider costume would have been better.

Actually it was a printing problem.

In the early 1980's the printers in Sparta changed their presses from the old style metal printing plates to a new process that involved printing on plastic plates.

In those early days the process tended to bleed colors and is why so many of those early 80's Marvel and DC comics that were printed on newsprint look so awful.

The result was that you started to see alot more characters going toward bland colors, such as the FF going to B&W costumes and Iron Man losing his yellow and red, for white and red, and a few other examples that escape me right now.

This printing problem was one of the main reasons for comics moving onto higher quality paperstock. Which is good, because I hated the B&W costume and was happy to have the old Red & Blue suit come back. :)

Anyway that's why it happened.

Thank you! Someone acually agrees with me. I think even Marvel realised the underarm webbing was annoying because none of the artists these days uses it except John Jomita JR. I think John Romita JR is a fantastic artist but for the past few years he's been drawing Spidey too skinny. Please John Romita JR if you ever come back on the Spider-Man comics beef up the ol webslinger a little like the good ol days and lose the underarm webbing on him.

as for Venom's remark on JR jr., the guy really has been drawing spidey skinnier, dunno why.

as for the underarm webbing thing, maybe John was doing it as a tribute to his dad, iunno

Hell, sometimes in the same issue. I think it's as much when the creative team just remembers it's there, or isn't too lazy to draw it in.

And what "good ol days" are you talking about? 1997? Peter has always been a skinny geek since the very beginning. The people who draw him "beefed up" are the ones doing it wrong.

And the original suit is the best. The others are joke-tacular at best.

Peter isn't gonna be a skinny person for the rest of his life ya know. Most teenagers are skinny and when they become fully grown adults they tend to start putting some muscle on so yeah some artists do draw him wrong, by drawing him too skinny.

Take Ultimate Spider-Man for instance Peter was very skinny in his Spider-Man costume when he first started and now that he's getting more older Mark Bagley's drawing him a little more muscular now. Sorry about the second post folks had a little bit of a typing error.

StoneGold

More practical than keeping them under spandex. Pete must have had concave wrists in order for those not to show. And it must have been a pain to change the web fluid with them underneath.

But really, they mostly provided a nice homage to the old CBS TV show.

Actually it was a printing problem.

Interesting! I never heard that one before. The story I heard (and it might well be an urban legend) is that Jim Shooter was talking to a toy company, trying to pitch a new line of Marvel toys. Their response was lukewarm, until he told them "Well, if you sign on now, we'll give you the exclusive rights to merchandise Spider-Man's new costume." This got them interested, and the deal was signed. Then Shooter came back to the Marvel offices and said, "Ok, I need someone to design a new Spider-Man costume..." :D

Anyway, you can't beat the original. It's a classic, and seeing it look so good in the movies just reinforces what a well-conceived, timeless design it is.

ofcourse my favourite is the original... but thats obviously because it is the original... but if theyd started out with the black one it would have made more sense... since most spiders are black... although i have seen a red and blue one in a museum. I also think the black one was cooler, the cosmic 2099 one was pretty cool too.... but i despise the scarlet spider's outfit... what the hells with that baggy jumper? is it something he got from his nan at christmas or something? but i think spider armour was even worst.... what were they thinking? he looked like a silver bar of chocolate

It was a hoodie on display at a clothes shop that Ben kept passing. He eventually bought it and ripped off the sleeves and made some red spandex to go with it along with those new webshooters and thus Scarlet Spider was born.

Huree
11-09-2005, 01:27 PM
My point was that the reason Superheros wear elaborate costumes in the first place is because they are in a colorful stylish comic books. So telling Scarlet Spider to take off his ripped up hoodie because it serves no purpose is like asking dardevil to take the horns off his mask supermans cape etc...

If superheroes didnt have an original style then they'd all be wearing generic ski masks. If you want to say that Scarlet Spider should take off his sweatshirt because you think it looks bad then i understand that point of view.

This character hasn't even shown up in almost a decade so it doesnt really matter anyway.
