You know all this thread is going to end up being is a bunch of people giving reasons why they're proud they don't have a cell phone, when in reality they just feel too nervous that no one is ever going to call them on it.

I use Verizon, and my opinion is mixed at best.
I signed up in June, and am currently on my fifth phone. I went with Consumer Report's recommendation for the best low-end phone (Samsung A650, iirc). Went through 4 of those before I switched models to an LG 3300. With the 3300, I couldn't get any sort of reception in my apartment for the first few weeks. This seems to have been solved now. On a side note, I've gone through 3 headsets since June. Either I've been spectacularly unlucky, or there are some serious quality control issues.
I've had to use Verizon's customer service line a lot. They have very pleasant customer service people. They might not solve your problem, but they're nice. The local store here-not so great. Got a serious runaround with the manager until I lodged a complaint with the Area Manager. I understand that Sprint is a pretty good service.
Another warning: It's my understanding that Bluetooth is crippled for all Verizon phones (not that they all have bluetooth, mind you). This is done so that you'll have to pay an extra monthly fee to transfer photos, I believe. Bluetooth for Verizon basically seems to mean that you can use a wireless headset.
They're mildly addictive, and it was extremely convenient having a mobile with me at SDCC & Dragon Con.

My Cell is Cingular, formerly AT&T.
The service is good, I rarely drop a call, no matter where I go, even though the reception can get a little staticky. Billing isn't an issue for me (since my mom pays it and she lives in another state)
Customer service, however, are nice people, but completely inept. I've tried once a week since August to try and get my voice mail reset, hasn't happened. So I've just started telling people to not bother with voice mail.

I'm using a company called 3, the plan I have is very good for me and at a good price. My 2 main bitches are the customer service, which need to get a better grasp on the english language and the availabilty of wap/internet sites on the phone.
Right now 3 has allowed people to browse more popular sites like, Yahoo!, Amazon and even ESPN. But other competitors do offer this service whereas you can browse whatever site you want on your phone.
Been using the Motorola E1000 which is a very good phone, been able to unlock it and unbrand it too.

Verizon, with an LG4500 phone. I don't text. I don't have a land line either. Pretty basic set up. Coverage is decent, but even though I'm in a good area, I still seem to lose calls every so often.
I used to have AT & T. They sucked.

We both went through multiple units, though. I ended up switching to the Treo 650 before my 30 days were up, though. I think hers has been fine... except when she dropped it in a glass of orange juice.
Believe it or not, it's pretty much recovered from even THAT.
