View Full Version : topic: Extra young- and thin-looking women...

Continuing the discussion...
Perhaps you're right. Maybe we are adding to that culture, but those girls don't seem on that "so thin they're ill" level, more "that's just how their bodies are". I agree that Hannigan doesn't look ill, btw. The other young lady, though, looks REALLY young and I *think* remember seeing her looking extra boney.
Women who are that way, naturally or otherwise, being put on a pedestal has an effect on those who aren't... and men, for that matter.
There's also the unpleasant "You're attracted to 12 year olds?" implication which is what sort of sparked this discussion. I could see that being particularly unpleasant. It wasn't my intention to make you feel that way, but I could see how you'd get the opposite impression. I don't know if this example will help, but...
There's a picture of Chante Moore, an r&b vocalist, which I think looks a bit like a man in drag. I've often said this woman is VERY attractive, though. By pointing out how she looks like a man (all the time or in a particular photo) my intention is not to say that I'm gay... just like I didn't intend to imply that any of you are the kinds of people who dig 12-year-olds.
I'm sorry for the implication, but I'm not sure how else to phrase the apology WITHOUT being untrue to my position.
EDIT: These are the pix I was referring to in the comment which lead to this discussion:

So basically what you're saying is that to you, those women resemble children and are therefore not attractive to you, but that view may not be shared by others. You understand this, and therefore don't consider them pedophiles because you know they could have a different interpretation.
And I getting this right?

OK, but the reason I kinda got hung up, is because it's not the first time you've made the crack. It may even have been the same FHM pic. It honestly sounds like you're being a bit harsh on women with what seem to me to be reasonably normal figures. (Face wise, they both have that "wide-eyed" look which makes them look a tad younger, but not as young as you seem to believe)I don't think they're "normal," as I and others have pointed out.
There's a reason "21 Jump Street" actors were called "baby faced." It's because, for their ages, they looked young... in other words, this was not the norm. So, anyway, that's where we disagree on the "normal" tip. Well, that and I don't see a lot of women with figures that are naturally as thin as those I often see on here. This is not to say that a thin woman isn't attractive or shouldn't be in a magazine, btw.
Heck, I think Gabrielle Union is attractive but she's a bit thin, for me. It's extremes in size and appearance-of-youth that I'm concerned with, at the moment.

I kinda see what you mean, and I know that you didn't mean it like that, but it's still not a nice association to make. The youth thing is I think something that happens as you get older, you assume that people that look younger are much younger than they really are. I see 16-21 year olds all the time, and they look roughly like Mischa did. As someone older, you might think they all looked much younger without me telling you that they were that age.
The thin thing, it's honestly just a case by case preference for me. I like Alyson Hannigan and Michelle Trachtenberg, because they look like they just ARE like that, but I like Charisma Carpenter, and Jewel Staite who have more curves. It's more a case of individual features + body type for me.

I don't consider them pedophiles because I don't know of them ever having molested a child.
I *do* recognize that others see these things differently. That's the most obvious element of this conversation. (Then again, I've missed the obvious before so...)

I know many girls/women who could be said look "young" and "thin", and there's absolutely nothing wrong with this at all.
Included a pic of Amy. She's 19, and about 5'4. Some have previously commented on the fact that she looks young, although I certianly can't find fault with her.
But then again, I'm biased :D
(hope she'd approve of the photo)
If I'd said they look like men, would that have been similarly not nice?
Well, I'd be slightly peeved, considering I don't consider myself gay or even bi, but not so much. (I get you meant "boy-ish" which would've been less of a problem, it's the age you picked which was the real sore point)

I just think that the things that are associated with and typical of women are often missing from the apparent models of female aesthetics. There could be SOME women in the media who look like the ones you dig, but there are a LOT of'em, these days. More and more, as compared to what I see in real life.
Many of them look like girls, to me. If you thought the women I liked looked fat, I wouldn't think you were saying I had a fat-fetish or whatever it's called. Like you say, I'd think it's something we disagree about.
If you pointed out a trend, though, and compared that trend to most women (which is a big part of how 'normal' is defined), that's even further from being a personal insult, imo.

See, I didn't "pick" the age she appeared to be any more than I "picked" what gender Chante or that Seventh Heaven resembled.
It wasn't that they looked young and I chose "12-years-old," specifically, to get a reaction. It was that they looked like 12-year-olds, to me.

That look being pressured into many women, DOES NOT mean women who DO look like that are unattractive on principle.

I think what you consider "present" in those features, is expceptional to me. It's not really the KIND of opinion you expressed which caused the problem, it's this SPECIFIC one. No one would judge you for liking heavier chicks, or more butch looking ones, but 12 year olds? That may raise an eyebrow, or handcuffs. I'd rather not have people think that of me.

The reason I responded that way was because I wanted to make it clear that EVEN IF these posters DID say that 12-year-olds were attractive, even THAT wouldn't make'em pedophiles, so it's unlikely I'd even go there.
Considering the *kind* of attractiveness they were talking about, though, I can see where you're coming from. Sorry for the "damning," folks.

In the case of at least one of the girls posted I definitely am attracted on the latter level.

This is the distinction I was trying to address in the post howyadoin quoted.
I don't know how else to say it, at the moment, but if I think someone you dig looks like she's 12-years-old, I'm not calling you a pedophile any more than I'm calling you gay by saying I think the person looks like a man.

Think about it. If I said a girl looked hot in a squirrel suit, would you think "furry" despite no evidence that I've ever dressed in an animal suit to do it?
Actually, I wouldn't. But then, I'm not on the same page as a lot of the folks around here when this subject comes up.
If you said, some woman looked hot... and that woman happened to be wearing a squirrel suit, I wouldn't assume it's the squirrel suit (or JUST the squirrel suit) that's doing it for you. Similarly, if she were wearing jogging pants, I wouldn't think you dig women with baggy clothes.
That said, the more pictures I see of people saying "This (animal suit-wearing) chick is HOT," the more likely I'd be to make the association you're talking about. BUT, and I think this is a BIG'un, please note this distinction...
If a bunch of men said they dug women in animal suits, I'd think those men dig women... in animal suits. I wouldn't necessarily make the leap that these men want to hump squirrels or participate in any other bestialitic (yeah, I just made that up) events.
Similarly, men who dig young-looking women probably like... women who look young. I wouldn't necessarily assume they skip the women and go for the girls... or any other pedophiliatical (*throws dictionary away*) stuff.

Unfortunately, I'd switched to "prepubescent," by that time... so any "boobs" that aren't caused by excessive fat, would fall outside of that.
The thing is, though, her chest looked flat in that picture. Women pad their bras, quite often. In ads, I think this is particularly true. I don't *know* that's what happened in this one, but I remember no signs of actual breasts on her.

FWIW, I was watching the Notre Dame/USC game yesterday and I looked at Brady Quinn (20?).
First thought: Well, I can see that he is cute.
Second thought: But, my God, he's a kid.
The point being while I can certainly appreciate that he's cute to his own age group, he's not the least bit attractive to me as a lust object.
So these young girls here, I have no doubt that men of all ages look at them and think "wow, they're attractive."
But if they're more than 20 years older than these girls and they seriously think of them as lust objects for certain fantasies or want to pursue girls who look like their daughters in real life, well....maybe it's a difference with men and women but I do have a hard time following that one, I admit.
Note: doesn't apply to anyone in this thread that I can tell--the overinfatuation with someone considerably younger, as a strong fantasy or a real-life lust object, I mean. Nor do I think individual May/December romances are always necessarily wrong in real life.

Yes,but considering you seem to have a different standard of "hardly there" than many of us, how does that help?
(Honestly a real question, no judgement or insult intended.)
It only helps those whose ideas of what I was talking about were waaaay off from what I actually meant.
That's not to call anyone out, btw. Not everyone says what they're thinking, so I'm not just talking about those who do.

Who the heck is Alexis and why does he have a girl's name?
I'm going to repeat what I said on the other thread, now that I've caught up here. And in case it's not clear, it's along the same lines as what Corrina has posted. I couldn't see Mischa Barton's figure at all. And this is the only pic I've ever seen of her, that I know of. But my first reaction to the face was that "she is way too young to be thought of as a sex object." Now for people her own age, that will be totally different. I can't guess what she looks like to them. Any more than some of you can imagine regularly finding people over 30 hot. But I would question a man my age getting turned on by that particular photo.
I think this is the first of -like- 3 conversations I'll have with you before you say that you're actually gay. :D

The irony here, one of the women in question is 10 years OLDER than me. :p
I do think that's part of it though, it's less "weird" because I am around that age (19).

I brushed the thread, and I can see both points.
A girl in my college class last year was hot. I mean whoa, but the thing is right she looked young (if you looked at her a certain way), about 13/ 14 ages. She told me she said she was getting pissed over little 13 year olds were checking her.
Now she weren't flat or nowt like that right, but she was just little.
Now personally, I don't mind any size. In fact the other day on the bus I was looking at some school girls and in my head I had a little problem. When you see a girl in her uniform the range can be 11- 16 and sometimes it's hard to tell, so someone could see me watching a young girl and go "Oii peodofile or whatever", which is odd as I'm only 16 and if I dealt with a 16 year old girl that would be fine.
Now to me, Hannigan (I dunno who the other girl, but from what I can see) doesn't and has never seen young.

There's also the fact that a lot of today's "hotties" are younger and younger... and getting thinner and thinner.
I saw two pix of Hillary Duff recently and I kid you not - I wouldn't have recognized her. I'm not as familiar with her work as some, but she's been in the media enough for me to know her face... or that WAS the case before she became the incredible shrinking woman.

Hillary Duff
The young woman from the recent "Herbie" flick (forgotten her name)
Lionel Richie's daughter (forgot her name, too) NICOLE!
There are so many examples of very young and/or very thin women getting a greater share of the spotlight, these days. Some of those who don't fall under either of those categories take what I consider to be extreme measures to "qualify."

Another comment about that picture. Both of those young ladies were attractive, imo, and certainly popular BEFORE they began losing so much weight.
Yet, they STILL did whatever they did (I'm assuming it was deliberate) to LOSE that weight... to scarecrow-ish ends. I think both have moved closer to a happy middle-ground, by now, though. I'm glad.
In Nicole's case, especially, it shows that it's possible to be thinNER without recreating the movie, Thinner.

Ouch. I didn't know SHE went there, too. It's not as bad, but there's a marked difference between the "before" and "after" shots.
I feel bad for these women (and this isn't a p.c.-appeal), really. When I see someone as STRIKING as Jennifer C. decide that she needs to bone-up like that, I fear for her well-being AND women who look at her as one of the standards of beauty. I just hope she's doing it for a movie roll that actually calls for it (as opposed to doing it for a DIRECTOR who "suggests" it).

So, you don't think they look sickly. Allrightee.
I know there are some women who look like that naturally. There are also Blacks who lose their skin pigmentation naturally - but those who do it deliberately make me wonder WHY that's the case. When we're talking about losing too much weight (imo), that adds a layer of physical discomfort that makes me even MORE concerned.

I know celebs are under a different kind of pressure, but I still think that pressure has a trickle-down effect. The idea that someone or something made someone who looked like HER think that she needed to lose so much weight ("so much" is kinda misleading, since she wasn't large, by any means outside of bust-size) is a powerful thing.

Anorexia is extremely unhealthy, I think that we can all agree on that. But associating a woman's breast size with her apparent age is an extreme over-simplification, especially in these modern times when grade school age girls are already developing there due to eating too much fatty foods.
As for youthful appearance and attractiveness, there is mental divide between biology and society. Basically, women are biologically ready to start breeding when they hit puberty, but our affluent, modern society has determined that adulthood is an arbitrary number of years which is later than that. That's fine, and I'm not interested in violating social taboos about sex with underage girls, but there can still be an attraction at a basic level of my mind that is still in tune with basic biological urges. As a responsible adult, I'm not going to act on those urges, but I do realize that they exist. For me to pretend that a female is unattractive until I have verified her age is silly. At the same time, our modern girls are developing adult bodies at a younger age, and their parents are letting them dress like hookers.

I couldn't agree more, I've sen some very young girls kitted out in thongs. A major clothes chain had aggro about selling padded bras for young girls.
Now this is at the same time that there was a major thing about peodophiles on the news.
I'd say the parents are dressing them like hookers in some cases. I dunno how many 8 year olds have money to buy clothes.
