What exactly did Norman Osborn hope to accomplish with the clone saga?

Apparently, it seemed like a good idea to him at the time, but now he admits that if he had actually bothered to have thought it through first, he wouldn't even have bothered.

Heh. The question assumes that Norman's involvement wasn't just the big "get out of jail free" retcon that the editors came up with when they needed a way out of the damn storyline.

Anyway, yeah, I think his "motive" was to make Pete miserable.

"HA HA! I'll make ever MORE of my archenemy and make him hate me ever more than he already does! ... waitaminute."

It is so stupid (Kinda like the clone saga in general)...

"HA! I have an archenemy! I shall make an exact copy of him so... I.. have... two arch enemies now instead of one?"

What kind of stupid ass plot is that?

I wouldn't expect plans that make sense from someone who's supposed to be insane...

exactly my thoughts. to be honest, that's why i like him as a villain so much. he is clearly a genius and he can create these complicated and convuluted plots to attack his enemy, but ultimately the man is insane which is mirrored in the kinds of plans he comes up with.

Norman made the clone saga to ruin Peter's life. Didn't work out so Norman thought "To hell with it! I'll just take him head on and tell him he's the real deal and not a clone" And of all days he chose Halloween.

The point of it all is very simple , Marvel wants you to pay $$$$ to follow its never ending clone saga.

Marvel's done this kind of thing all too many times: Create a problem without thinking of a way to solve it. just look at Nate Grey. why did they put a fail safe in Nate? yeah, seemed like a good idea at the time but when he was turning 21, shit hit the fan. and what did they do? kill him off in one of the corniest alien invasion stories (as if those weren't corny enough to begin with) ever.

same thing with the clone saga. all the clones deteriorated, presumably, anyway. and we paid big bucks for crap like that. god bless Image comics

mah...spideys enemies are always wasting their time on stupid complicated schemes... like when mysterio convinced spidey he was going mad... instead of creating lifelike images of spideys enemies... making an upside down room... making a rubber mask to put on... he could have actually used his intelligence to i dont know... lock him in a room and then explode the room... that would of killed him for sure

Except in that issue, wasn't he trying to find out his ID?

If he blew Spider-Man to pieces it kinda screws up the plan.

yeah but ultimatly the whole point of finding out his ID is so that he can destroy him by using his familie etc.... so he could of instead cut straight to the chase and destroyed him... anyway, i dont understand why his spider-sense didnt warn him that the pyschiatrist was actually mysterio

but charaters like mysterio are obsessed with spidey. in their mind it's better to crush an enemy completely than to just kill him.
