I wanted to know if Gotham Central is a good book to add to my pull list. I never payed it any mind until the Dead Robin story arc. I haven't read it yet but I find it interesting. Plus, the next issue is a IC tie-in so is this book worth getting or should I leave it on the shelf?

Damn yay. Great art, intriguing intrigue, and a very personal look at how normal people operate in a metahuman world. Warren Ellis recently described Greg Rucka as an egoless writer; that is, all of his characters are distinct and unique and his own personal voice as an author is nowhere to be found. It's a totally immersive world.

Definitely "yay."

Only bat-book I read. Fantastic police drama.

You bet your sweek bippy it's "yay!" The last four issues (not to mention #12-15) are definately worth picking up.

How do the normal people view the superhero stuff that happens around them? It's something that I've been wanting the book to explore. But, strangely enough, DC went through a crossover dry-spell when this book started. But that's over with the next issue. I'm really curious to see how the cops handle the recent IC-related events.

YAY!!! In terms of quality this is one of the most consistent books out there even with Ed and Mike leaving. While I have all the issues, I am just flabbergasted at the fact that only has one trade paperback for arguably their best-reviewed series. If they want to increase readership they need to start coming out with some trades especially now that the former creative team is about to have a major run on Daredevil.

Easily recommended book. At least give one issue a go to see if you can dig it.

Yay, but with a disclaimer.

Up 'til now, my favorite GC stories have either been written or co-written by Ed Brubaker. Rucka's solo arcs have generally been my least favorite GC arcs. And since the most recent issue was also Ed's last, we're only going to be seeing Rucka solo stories from here on out.

So although I've loved GC since its start, I'm afraid that I don't know how much I'll still be enjoying it six months from now. Frankly, I'd sooner recommend buying back issues than adding the title to your pull list at this time.

Yes and No.

If you want to keep following Days of Vengeance/Infinite Crisis, then go ahead and pick it up. If not, just wait for the relaunch of the book which is supposed to be happening by the end of Infinite Crisis, if not sooner.

Theoretically, I should love everything about this book: I love the writers and the artists associated with it, I love police procedurals, I love the Gotham City setting. It should be my favorite book. But in reality, I don't like it that much. I think most of the characters are still pretty bland (if not complete ciphers) after all this time, and I have to admit I often have some trouble remembering who is who. In addition, although I'm ashamed to admit it, I hated the whole "every female character's a lesbian" story arc.

So it's "nay" for me, I guess.

I have the first trade, and it was awesome. I'm eventually going to get the second, and third (whenever it is released).

The answer is a big-time "yay!"

The book is definitely better when Brubaker's name is on it, though. I wonder if we'll ever see the day shift again.
