I ws just wondering how many of you guys have tried their books and if so whadda think?

I had a pending question about Yoshida Amano's HERO today (mainly, where the heck is it!) so I sent an email in through their webste (http://www.speakeasycomics.com/index.asp) and got back an answer ASAP from the founder, Adam Fortier!

Apparently:

We’ve sent the book to the printers, and it’s in the process of being printed right now. The second volume will be done on time, not to worry. We are aiming to make sure that we have everything ready for the second volume by Christmas! :)
And in case you were wondering about a Rocketo collection:

Can’t give you an answer on the Rocketo collection just yet, but I hope to have something to announce soon!
Just thought I'd share..

The only Speakeasy book I'm reading is Hero@Large because my friend Jeremy is drawing it.

I was pleased to find that it was a REALLY fun book, though, looking at some of the aspects of being a superhero that aren't often covered in comics. (from a humerous point-of-view)

And Jeremy's work is fantastic on it! Unless you're not a fan of the Sean Galloway/Skottie Young/Francisco Herrera style art. But he pencils, inks, colors and letters the book all himself!

I liked HERO@LARGE #1, though it felt a little thin to me. I think I blew through it in two minutes. But I enjoyed those two minutes.

I also enjoyed (with reservations) Dawn Brown's RAVENOUS, and the first couple of issues of that fantasy series they're publishing. Is that THE GRIMOIRE? Something like that. I lost track of it already. . .

nweathington: I'm with you on Rocketo! That's why I asked about a collection. Question - are all the issues in the "Marvelscope" style, stapled at the short end? I know #1 was.

Augie: I rememebr you reviewing Ravenous, and yeah that other book is Grimoire. The first issue of that was good.

I think Grimoire, Rocketo, and Elk's Run will be tpbs for me.

Their new book Strangeways (http://www.newsarama.com/Speakeasy/Strangeways/Strangeways_Maxwell.htm) looks interesting too.

Yeah, I need more stuff to read..... :p

I almost picked up ELK'S RUN this past week, but then realized that I would never have time to read it.

See? I'm learning how not to let my reach exceed my grasp. Or is that vice versa? Dang phrases. . .

As far as other new publishers, any of you guys check out Narwain Publishing (http://www.narwain.com/)? I HAD to pre-order JENNA ( I luv the punkins cover! :p) and I also gave the preview ish and HORRORAMA a shot.

Tracie: Did you see that Takashi Miyazawa cover?

I also like leaving their site on my browser at work for the spooky-techno music. :D

I've been reading The Hunger and that's pretty good.

Oh, and the creative team are frigging great to hang with.

I bought Rocketo (great art, I am not crazy about the storytelling yet...it feels like 2 issues of set up!).
I got Elk's Run and plan to read it soon.

While issues #1 and #2 are stapled at the “top,” issue #0 — which was available at SDCC, but not through stores (and which was what got me interested in the series in the first place) — has the traditional saddle staples, even though that book was also a “Marvelscope” format.

GRIMOIRE is a fun fantasy series - girl finds magical book, gets help from creatures, etc. It's fun and witty.
