I did it before with Storm and Rogue, now it's time for a poll on Psylocke's costumes.

Which costume of Betsy is your favorite?

Most of them you can see at: http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/spotlight/showquestion.asp?faq=10&fldAuto=53&page=8

Wow. Most of her costumes are terrible. My favorite is probably the pink one, her first X-Men costume.

First time I saw it, I went WOOOOOW

Hate to say it, but I think her pink costume was the best, followed closely by the body armor. I like the basic X-Uniform too. I've really hated her other costumes.

Honestly, the dragon suit. But I've had a special place in my heart for the armor.

I didn't like the pink costume and or the body armor one because it cover up her good looks. ;) The xtreme x-men costume is my pick and I would like to see what she would look like in it with her real body, not her asian body.

I voted for the dragon outfit, but I agree with Blackcat - I think all her outfits are lacking. Her 'iconic' ninja look is such an Elektra rip-off it doesn't count as an original look to me. And the dragon outift is inappropriate in my kind, because while she may have a Chinese body (yes, Claremont has said she's got a Chinese body, not Japanese), her personality is still that of a Brit. The dragon just looks too theme-park Asian to me, even if the design (for me) is better than the others.

So Kwannon isn't Japanese? It sort of makes sense as Psylocke was named lady Mandarin.

Or do you mean the new body that she was resurrected in?

The purple teddy she wore often in the Outback.

Whaddya mean that's not a costume?

I am voting for her armor thing. The recent HoM dragon costume, and her costume when she first joined the X-Men in Uncanny X-Men 213 are runner ups.

Betsy's favorite costume is probably her ninja one. Her ninja costume was a symbol of her reaching her goal in becoming a real warrior, as was transforming into an Asian, since British ninjas would be silly (Uncanny X-Men Annual 11, Uncanny X-Men 256).

Although I liked Psylocke's original pink Alan Davis costume & Marc Silvestri purple armor, I voted for the Elektra ninja costume. Psylocke just became the ultimate woman warrior as a ninja telepath. I still miss her psychic knife...

I read a post by CC (probably reprinted here in the "CC Posts thread") something to the effect that the Japanese had indentured Chinese servants. Plus, isn't The Mandarin Chinese? So, when she was first transformed into an Asian woman, I gathered from the post thaat she was actually ressurrected as aChinese woman. The whole Kwannon thing probably wasn't researched against Claremont's logic.

The body armor and cape during the Australian period. A telepath should be a bit mysterious looking, not skin-tight body suits, bikini-thongs or hot pink dresses. Plus, she passed herself off as mysterious in personality as well and it just seemed to fit with her attitude best.
Far second choice - the ninja bikini thong from the Blue Team. while not mysterious in the least, it was...um..interesting. Even for someone who's not into checking out cleavage.

I voted for the recent dragon costume. I thought it was a really beautiful design, even if we will probably never see it again.

In the past, I liked the armor look, but I'm glad she moved on. It had a tendency to look a little D&D for my tastes.

One look Psylocke had, which isn't listed here, is the shadowy form she took after being transformed by the Crimson Dawn. I guess it was technically just an astral form, but it looked awesome, and I wish we got to see more of it.

here it is:

Right now I'm really digging the HoM costume. I think it has a really awesome look to it. I love the dragon on the front. I don't know, it just seems more like Psylocke, and it really fits her more than any other costume in my opinion... However, her ninja outfit is just classic, and can't be ignored. But I went ahead and voted for the HoM costume. I hope she keeps it for a long time.

This is a tough one. While there are a few I'm sentimental about, most of her get ups are pretty horrid. For me it's kind of a toss up between her original pink Davis designed number (because it look genteel and feminine next to Rogue and Storm's outfits. Every team needs a girly-girl) and her current pink dragon one. While I think the look needs some tweaking, I'm going with the pink dragon one. It's a nice blend of of her best elements: a sleek and stealthy look that still manages to be a bit refined and glamorous. Sexy without giving away too much like the thongs and garters she sported in the past. I would love to see Larocca draw her in this outfit. Much as I like Bachalo he makes her look a bit hippy in it.

Sorry, the Elektra rip-off was even worse than the HorriblePinkThing. What is even worse is that she has not gotten away from the Dragon Lady shtick since (I see where the cloak would get in the way these days, but try for some manner of practicality here).

It's all about the body armor. I liked the fact that a telepath was weak physically and needed a costume to offset that handicap.

It was pretty smart on the part of that creative team -- whoever dreamed it up. So I voted for that look. Not the most physically appealing or striking, but IMO the best costume I've seen in terms of character.

You see the Purple armour appears the most popular. Her British body has been most popular on here as well.

It just annoys me that Marvel wont allow either to reoccur, purely because they overpublicised her ninja form in the 90s. Stupid.

For me, it's not about the body, it's about the use of powers. Psylocke changed because Jean Grey returned. You can have two physically weak telepaths, so instead they made Psylocke the AGGRESSIVE, HANDS-ON PSYCHIC KNIFE WARRIOR, and Jean got to stay as-is.

Same thing happened to Emma Frost to a lesser extent. She became super-indestructible diamond warrior. But at least she kept her Emma-ness.

I just think Psylocke was more interesting when she had to provide defenses for her physical handicaps in battle. It was a good power dynamic. The body/race had little to do with it.

You can have two physically weak telepaths, so instead they made Psylocke the AGGRESSIVE, HANDS-ON PSYCHIC KNIFE WARRIOR, and Jean got to stay as-is.Well, when Betsy transformed in Uncanny X-Men #256, it was because she always wanted to be able to fight physically (and mentally). That issue was published long after Jean returned in 1986. Betsy didn't even appear in an American Marvel comic until after Jean returned. The characters were in seperate books, too. The first time we saw them together in Inferno, I didn't really notice many similarities. They were both telepaths. That's it. Professor X and Phoenix (Rachel) were both telepaths who were weak at hand-to-hand combat, too. Also, Claremont didn't know at the time that Jean (and the rest of X-Factor) were going to rejoin the team, so I don't think he was concerned with creating more distinction between the two characters. Sure, they were both telepaths and didn't have a lot of hand-to-hand combat experience, but they were still both very different characters in terms of personality/characterization, appearance, origin and role. I think the psychic knife idea was there because it looked cool. It also provided an exit for reverting Betsy to type (yeah, call it a plot device, but it still served more of a purpose(s) later on) :)

When Psylocke first met Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), it was during Uncanny X-Men #242-243 & X-Factor #38-39; at this time, Marvel Girl only possessed her telekinesis. Psylocke used Jean to augment her own telepathy since the Inferno created incredible "psionic static" (probably caused by the Goblin Queen's link to Limbo to harness N'Astrigh's prime spell to transform Manhattan Island into a demon city).

Psylocke & Jean Grey are not close at all. They are more aquaintances at best.

Maybe she doesn't care since it isn't her body! lol I wish she'd go back to her British body for good though. Since she was supposedly world famous for her beauty and it's a shame she's in some random woman's body. She has no identity now IMO. That's probably why I dislike Kwannon's body.

I like Psylocke in the asian form, but agree that she should go back to her original form sometime. I wonder if the Xtreme costume would be appropriate or awkward for British Betsy?
