View Full Version : Coin A Nickname for ASBR Batman

If there is one thing that is undeniably true about Batman, it's that he has been the subject of more re-interpretations than any other comic book character. Each generation, and to some extent, each writer, leaves the character a little bit different than when they found him.
This has given the community of comic book fans, critics, and writers ample room to create funny and poignant nicknames. The Dark Knight, The Caped Crusader, The Masked Manhunter, The Dark Knight Detective, AzBats (Azrael as Batman), Batwing (Dick Grayson as Batman) and so on and so on.
Frank Miller's All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder has presented us with a Batman that I can honestly say I've never seen before. This Batman, unlike previous incarnations, strikes a strange balance between crazy and stupid. Whether or not this is good is open to debate, but it does raise a question: What the hell do we call him?
My choice: Bat-Marv. More than any previous Batman, ASBR Bats resembles a lumbering psychotic from Miller's Sin City.
Any others?

Batdick is WAY overused. Apparently, Batman has been acting like SUCH a dick lately that there are several sub-categories of Batdick. I think it's imporant to differentiate between the regular universe Batman, who is merely a dick, and ASBR Batman, who is something else completely. A lot of people are complaining about this new character who has begun wearing the famous cape and cowl (including me) but you have to admit... we haven't seen this character in a Batman comic until now.
I like Bat-Marv... you may have caught on to something there
Thanks. But we'll keep Bat-Weiner in the "maybe" pile. :)

Batskitcase.
That's a damn good one. :) That might work.
Then again, I think the new moniker should relate to Frank Miller in some way. That's just me.

Oh and why stop with the "Goddamn Batman?" Put the whole line in there:
"BatWhat are you, dense? Are you retarded or something? Who the hell do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman-Man" :p
His initials will be BWAYDAYROSWTHDYTIAITGBM. Finally a name long enough to match the name of the title, ASBRBW.

Actually, it makes perfect sense. Many have enjoyed reading about Batman since he was a child and many feel this interpretation sullies everything Batman stands for.

Because Miller is screwing Batman over with this horrible portrayal. This is only hilarious if you disassociate yourself with everything Batman stands for.

But rape? I think that is the wrong word to use here.
Now I could understand that senitment if the story were written from Batman's POV.
But it isn't. It is written from Dick's. A kid who just had his family killed and nearly killed by corrupt cops. Plus, he has a strang man throw him into a car and gas him.
Once again, Batman will look a lil screwed up if written from Dick's POV.
I think it is hilarious because of the 1)over the top, bad dialogue and repeating thought boxes, 2) the flying Batmobile and 3) the insanity of the issues so far.
So while I don't disassociate myself from what Batman is, I kinda like this interpretation of Batman. He is blunt, scary, and very insane.
But, of course, you would have to read from Dick's POV to see that...

But for the most part the character is supposed to be something like the character we all know and love. I personally don't see Batman as a comedy. I am all for creativity but sometimes an editor needs to step in and this is one of those times. This Batman is more like Marv from Sin City pretending to be Batman. If this is Batman, I wonder what the Joker is going to be like.

Not every version of Batman has had a no-kill clause. And cops = criminals in this case.

I don't see the Batman as comedy either. But this doesn't have the continuity constrictions of the in-continuity books so it can afford to take a different POV.
But through 2 issues, this book has not taken itself seriously. I am not taking it seriously until it does.
And if that happens, I will probably stop buying it...

Black Canary's . . . HAW :p . . . but thats #3 isn't.
Actually, there are so many POVs in this book that I don't think your argument holds much merit. From the 1st two issues (and keep in mind we only got a page of Robin in #3), it was just as much Vicky Vale's story as it was Dick's.

I think once Adams comes onboard the book will change to:
"Dirty Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder and the Journey to the Center of the Earth"
It will be the longest title a comic book has ever had, until that record is broken by an X-Men mini series.
