Just now I've been staring for ages at the new Comic Hellboy figures. I was just wondering, who would you want to see make it to figure form?
I myself, would love to see the frog-monster, wich has its normal head, and then a mutated head, like the Sven Olafsen frog monster!
I think I'd also like to see the huge Devil from 'The Chained Coffin', (But it'd have to be 18 ins!)
Oh, and obviously an Abe! :)

If you haven't bought these yet, DO SO NOW!!
They are literally the 3-D versions of Mignola's art...and they're beautiful!

Will-do on the voting! :D
As for the figures, I cant!!! :(
They're not out in the UK yet, and my parents only usually let me buy things on the net when its for a special occasion i.e Birthday, Christmas etc.
Obviously, Ill get them as soon as they come out over here, but until then I can only oggle at the pics. :(
Edit: I actually meant to vote in that thread yesterday! Well, I have now, great thread Stygian! :D

bummer... :(
IMO, your best bet is ordering a www.Figures.com exclusive and then you get one w/ a coat. I don't think the MezcoDirect.com store will sell overseas :(

I think I'll just wait for the regular version of HB, with the normal expression. In fact, could someone help me on this? Im not too sure whats what.
Theres the regular version of HB, theres one with teeth showing, one with an angry (open mouthed) expression, and theres the one with the bloodstained coat, right?
... But isnt there a coated version in Series 2 coming out?

Well, I can't speak for the Exclusives which are so much a part of just about any major action figure line these days, but there is supposed to be an HB with a sculpted jacket and rocketpack (ala' his Wake the Devil appearance in Issue 1) in Series 2.

No "trench coat" version is planned at this time last I heard, but Fall Toy Fair is in three weeks and I'll be talking w/ Mez about what's what then...
All the news on these figs will be up at www.Figures.com at that time...
Also, like I said, if you only get one, I'd get one w/ a coat... either www.mezcodirect.com exclusive or Figures.com exclusive...
Just my opinion though...

yah--these are the absolute best figures i have seen in a looooong time. as both a hellboy fan and action figure collector i couldn't be happier. hopefully we will see all the characters, not only members of the bprd but all the assorted unique monsters, demons, ghosts, worms, soldiers, etc.

I finally got ahold of a Kriegaffe and Von Klempt this weekend (at Tower), completing my set. (Except for the Mezco Direct one, that is, which hasn't shipped yet, and the "battle-damaged" version which I'll pass up.)
Man, that monkey is BIG!
Which is great. He gets even bigger than he looks in his oversized package because his legs are bent in there. There is, sadly, no clear pole stand thingee for Von Klempt's head to float atop. Countering that, Kriegaffe's mouth actually opens, though, which is awesome.
This is THE figure I've been waiting for for years, and it doesn't disappoint. I was once planning to convert a McFarlane King Kong and decapitate a Mr. Freeze, but I was too lazy and now Mezco has conveniently saved me the trouble. I don't know why this one is short-packed; honestly I would think it would be more popular than Liz or Lobster, much as I like those figures.

Kriegaffe was the most expensive as well as largest, which means they short packed him due to $$ reasons...
If they would have raised the price, they would have lost buyers and lost money, and if they made more of him, they'd have lost money. Either way is a "no win" for Mezco...
but you are right...that monkey is BIG! :D

You know Brisco, as much as I like Kriegaffe and Von Klempt, personally I think LoJo blows them both apart! Seriously, I love that figure! :D
As far as the "no clear plastic pole for Von Klempt", here's what you do. Drill a small hole on the bottom of Von Klempt at the intersection point where all of the tentacles converge. You then take a figure stand from one of the recent Marvel Legends figures (who virtually all come with a clear plastic figure stand these days), remove one of the sections so that it's about half the height, and then plug that into the hole you've just created on your Von Klempt. I tried this and it worked great!
The one problem I ran into though with mine is that I didn't quite get the hole centered, so Von Klempt kind of hangs off to one side a tad bit. If you consider that Mike always kind of draws Von Klempt canted off to one angle or another, it's not too noticeable. I'm sure yours would be centered though Brisco and probably look awesome! :)
Good luck if you try it!

Well, if the Trenchcoat Hellboy comes out in Series 3, thats not too bad. As Stygian pointed out, Series 2 has the v.cool Jetpack Hellboy from Wake The Devil, so I'd be satisfied getting that....for a while! :D . There'll probably be a Hellboy in every series (util they run out of Hellboys!)
Anyway, Ill have to check out that Exclusive Hellboy figure!
Edit: Ah, as much as the Exclusive Trenchcoat Hellboy looks cool, I think I'll pass and get the regular closed mouth, coatless Hellboy. I mean, dont get me wrong, that figure kicks a whole lot of butt, but I think I'd want one without the battle damage. (Maybe if I can somehow get more money? )

I just picked up the closed mouth HB, Liz, and LoJo, and I gotta say I love 'em all. I also had the cute girl at my local com shop hold the Kriegaffe they're getting in tomorrow for me.
I'm still debating picking up the 18" HB. What does everyone who has it think of it?

you won't be disappointed...it's friggin' awesome. you can snag one at a pretty decent price right now on ebay, several i saw today were less than the msrp of $40-45.
i also like lobster better than kriegaffe (i just dig the lobster look, the pulp hero feel, etc) but i could do with another ape and 1 less lobster per case.
The 18" figure is amazing. If someone's funds are limited, I'd recommend getting it over an assortment of the smaller ones. It's not that poseable but it just looks awesome standing on a shelf, overlooking the room.
The open mouth ones are a mystery to me. They look weird.

I couldn't agree more, on all accounts! I have my 18" Closed Mouth HB perched atop a shelf, overlooking his domain like the proud leader of every figure and piece of Original Art that I own. :D

I'm gonna back Tad up on this. If you can only afford to get either the 18" Hellboy or some of the smaller figures, go with the Big Guy. It's an amazing figure, the best one in that size I've ever seen. I do like the open mouth version, but I think I'd get annoyed always having it in that position, so, like Tad, I opted for the closed mouth one, which looks great.

alright i'm gonna have to stick up for the angry one as it is the one i picked up. it is more scene specific but i just thought it looked cooler (and it has nothing to do with my name) especially with the samaritan drawn. of course i'm sure i'll have the closed mouth one standing next to it sooner or later. anyone else have the angry one?
as far as skipping the smaller line for the big one? you won't get much argument from me on that one whichever hellboy you choose. a set of the four is comparable price-wise to the 18'' one. plus the 18'' figure market right now is just amazing. so many cool freaking figures, all (for the most part) with great piant apps and sculpting. just wish i had the room for all for them. oh yeah and the money. that too.

I know it is probably pushing it considering we already got LoJo in the first series but has anyone considered the possibility of a vintage LoJo like the one at the end of the Weird Tales comic? I bet it won't happen but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibilities. I personally want to see Anung un Rama Hellboy and the frog monster (as well as the already confirmed Johann and Roger)
I seem to recall seeing a version of Hellboy with the jet pack from WtD...is that for a future series or am I going crazy?

Are the heads removable?
If they are and anyone's interested in swapping an 18" closed-mouth head for the open-mouth head (that's the one I have) I'm all for it.

You are supposed to boil the figure before doing that. I did it with the movie figures. I had the normal Hellboy and the Hellboy with the corpse and I wanted the corpse version to have the open hand and normal face and the other one to have the angry face and the closed fist for sweet smashing action. The boil and pop method worked just fine. Check the link below for a detailed explanation...

Cool! Thanks for the feedback.
I picked up Kriegaffe today, and it's very impressive.
As it stands, I've been keeping the majority of my collection in a couple of giant boxes in a closet. I guess I'm facing a bit of a dilemma. As a HB maniac, who still feels young and incredibly single, I think I've missed more than one opportunity to spark a relationship due to the girls being a little taken aback by the sheer overwhelming presence of a certain demon taking up so much of my living space. I really want the 18" version, I'm just afraid I'll end up stowing it and not giving it the shelf it so rightfully deserves.
I have a feeling I'll be picking it up by the end of the week despite myself. :)

I have a suggestion and a question.
1. I for one open my toys but I really dig the packaging on these figures. I have sometimes in the past carefully cut my clamshells to put the figures back in for storage or in-package display. I don't know if this is totally obvious or not but I got LoJo earlier today and cut a flap on the right side of the bubble and the tray the figure is in just slides right out. It works quite well.
2. Does anyone know of a good gangster figure to go with LoJo as a victim of the claw's justice? He's got his hand out like he's ready to inflict some justice but no one to inflict it on!

Dude, I feel your pain regarding getting "the ladies" acclimated to your figure collecting. I look at this way; keep most if not all of the "toys" out of site and let her gradually get used to the idea. Let her think you're at least somewhat grown up and legit before you tell her that truth; that like the rest of us you are an arrested development man-child trapped in an adults body! :p That's what I have to tell my wife everytime she gives me a hard time about purchasing "toys" for myself. :)

Picked up regular ol' closed-mouth HB yesterday. Great figure! The thigh rotation on his right leg is very sticky, haven't been able to twist it yet, feels like it'd twist OFF. After the peg for the hip-ball on San Diego Ghost of Lobster Johnson's right leg snapped with no force at ALL, I'm a bit wary of ruining my Hellboy just to try to pose him. Left thigh rotates with no trouble at all.
Figure looks great! Stands better'n Big Blasts, for sure. Wish I had room for the 18" one! Get 'em at Tower Records if you can, odds are it'll be cheaper than going to your comic shop. The Goon's much cheaper there, too.

I got the open mouth angry Hellboy. I guess my logic was that the 18" had the mouth closed. I wish hellboy had of come with 3 interchangeable heads, instead of them selling 3 versions with only a head change.
Great figures though, so I can't really complain.

I got the Lobster Johnson yesterday. I was worried I had accidentally ruined his right ankle. Figures are so weird the past few years. All the joints stick and can twist apart so easily. The best trick is to put the figure in hot water to make it more pliable without ripping. It's saved many a figure of mine. If it seems like it won't move then don't risk it.
crowinghorse
10-13-2005, 10:47 PM
go ahead and twist the leg joint. It won't break off or fall off. Mine too were stuck but as soon as you twist them, they get loose and just right...
Also, the "teeth" version is my favorite, but I recently added a cigar/cig between the teeth of my "screaming/angry" version and it looks great...
I plan to pick up the 18" Angry HB figure soon from a buddy for a great price, so it'll be my second 18" HB in a month...AGGGHHHH! :D
DannyBoy7783
10-14-2005, 05:29 AM
I don't recomend being rough with any action figure anymore...or not until you are sure the joints are moving yet. That is a recipe for disaster (and a broken figure). It's more of an issue around smaller joints like wrists or ankles.
