I hate to be the bearer of bad news, especially this bad news, but here goes... We are facing the very real possibility that the CBR Hulk Forum will be discontinued and merged into the Marvel Forum.
We obviously aren't as big as the others, but I love this board and the people on it and I mean to save it if I can. And I'll need your help to do it.
This Forum was essentially created out of a popular Hulk-centric movement and I think it can be saved by the same. We need to convince Jonah to keep this board alive.
This is where I need your help. Just reply to this thread and tell Jonah Weiland, the CBR head honcho, why the Hulk Forum should survive the upcoming restructuring, why this forum is great and why it should stand as is. Be polite, be honest, speak from the heart.
We can save this place, guys.
Mike, I'd love to help, but honestly? There are more deserving sections of the Marvel output. Hulk is in one title a month, two/three if he's guesting in something, which is quite rare, and then there's She-Hulk, which gets split between here and Avengers.
Meanwhile, there's at least 3 ongoing FF-related titles (4 if Franklin takes off) and 4 Ultimate ones, with at least one mini at all times. The traffic for Ultimate stuff is also pretty high across all the Marvel boards, with at least on related topic, usually more, on the front page of every Marvel board.
Seriously, I like the idea, but I can't think of a good reason why it justifies itself above these other ideas...

It's now official, folks. The Hulk Forum will not survive the restructuring and will be folded into the Marvel Board.
I just want to thank all of you for making Moderating this board a wonderful experience, you've been great posters and I've always been happy to brag that my board completely troll-free and that somehow, on a message board based on a child-like raging monster that likes to scream and smash things, we could have strong disagreements without getting personal or attacking one another.
It's been a real privilege.
Thank you all and with that said...

I have to admit this makes me sad... there's been some useful info found in this forum on ol' greenskin, and some great conversation.
It'll definitely be missed. :(

i'm totally bummed about this. i didn't post often (i only post to bring something unsaid to a topic-don't like to rehash others' points), but always liked looking at what everyone had to say.
thanks for your hard work MIKE SMASH!. you made this forum one of the better places to be on CBR. take care HulkForum, we'll miss you.

Thank you. The change over is likely to happen on Sunday, but I wanted the chance to say goodbye before this board was absorbed.

Well this sucks.
I´m not a very big fan of the Hulk but I think that if anybody in Marvel, besides Spider-man, deserves his own board it´s the big green, sometimes grey, guy.

Same as above.
Not a Hulk fan, but the man deserves his own section.

Hulk got me into comics, but I have to say, there are other titles that would be more deserving of their own forum... maybe when Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine surfaces, there'll be more talk of Hulk, and Hulk will smash again.

I'm really sorry to see this forum end. It was always an interesting place to chill out in when things got heated in the Spidey and X-Men forums.
Good job Mike Smash, and so long Hulk board.
p.s. That lonely man theme made this even sadder. :(

I nnever liked the Hulk, but I liked the forum and franchise. Too bad. Well, maybe they'll replace it with the Fantastic Four in the future. Are they erasing all of the threads?

Farewell, Hulk forum. You shall be missed(but at least we may see a comeback when "Planet Hulk" comes around).

Oh, man. What is it getting replaced with?
Mike Smash!
10-08-2005, 08:25 AM
Are they erasing all of the threads? No, the entire board and everything in it will be merged with the Marvel board.
Well, this sucks.
I started out mainly on the Hulk forum. It's the only Marvel forum I post in. What is it going to be replaced with? I can't see a Fantastic Four Forum doing much more traffic after the novelty wears off. An Ultimate forum will be redundant because all they will be doing is pulling threads out of the Spiderman, X-Men and Avengers boards.
Hulks on of Marvels marque characters. And he's being brought front and center in the marvel U over the next year. This is probably very premature.
I'm sad to see it go.

I agree. With Planet Hulk coming up, the Hulk forum would be getting a ton of traffic. Hulk is one of Marvel's first stellar characters, he deserves a forum.

I can't say I'm suprised or even that bummed. Sure it'd be nice to have a forum where I don't have to sift through other threads to find topics about Hulk, but that can be said about most characters. And, honestly, I think the Ultimate line is more deserving (even though I don't read any of those books). Planet Hulk may bring in traffic for awhile, but I think if the board needs a special event to get alot of traffic, then it's probably not necessary. Besides, like Mike Smash! said, we're not losing all the posts.

No, the entire board and everything in it will be merged with the Marvel board.
We're gonna merge?!
Does that mean we get the strength of the Hulk board, the intelligence of the Marvel board, and the attitude of Mike Smash?
And then, in a few years, they can erroneously nickname it the Professor Board.
...well, the joke seemed funny to ME. :D
Bummer. This is the only board I visit here. I may try visiting the marvel board. I don't know. I'll miss the regs.

While I always point at this board as evidence that other boards should exist, I'm sad to see this one go especially now when things are getting more interesting. I wish we could keep this and the MU boards separate and adding a Fantastic Four one but that won't happen anytime soon.
Props to Mike Smash! for having it created keeping it going this long though.

I never posted here, but I always feel bummed when something that people love goes away. Sorry for your loss, but look on the bright side: The Marvel board will welcome you with open arms. Everything you posted here can be posted there, and we can all mesh like one big family. I'm sure any Hulk related topic will be accepted and you can do the same things you did here.
Mike - Will you get a new gig modding some other board? You should.

I used to post at the Hulk forum, but traffic was so slow there that I would forget about it for months at a stretch. Maybe now that Hulk is here in the Marvel Universe forum, he will get more attention and respect.

Could the Hulk topics be started in the Avengers forum now that The Ultimates is out of there? Same with She-Hulk. Both have been members of the Avengers and as I'm sure we all know the Hulk was a founding member.

I was wondering that too and since Hawkeye will be in the She-Hulk book when it starts up again do we start She-Hulk threads in the Avengers forum?
Sad to see the board go, but sadder to see Mike no longer moderating it.
I never really posted too much on the Hulk board--was much more of a lurker there than a poster--but one of the things I always found refreshing about my visits to that board was the way in which Mike wasn't just a moderator. Many of the boards at CBR are moderated by people who ostensibly have zero interest in the discussions happening on their board. Such was never the case with Mike; he not only moderated fairly, but he also had a genuine interest in the characters being discussed, oftentimes lending insights that enriched discussions quite a bit.
So...yeah....thank you, Mike. Your Hulk moderation was INCREDIBLE.

Hulk doesn't seem to be that important to Marvel, so I don't see why it really needs it's own board. Sorry.

Its important to fans though. I really think the reason why marvel is snubbing the hulk comics is because the movie bombed. However merchandising wise the Hulk sales well(like toys, ect?).

Boy, was I surprised when I posted an Ultimates thread over on the Avengers forum, and found it moved to an Ultimates Forum. I had no idea the change over was pending, nor even had occurred.
When something like this happens, where is it posted to alert those affected?
I saw NOTHING on the Avengers forum.

That could get ugly. It's fairly rare that I read posts here that have something nice to say about Wolverine. He is still a cool character, but after 15+ years of massive overexposure, there isn't much left to say about him.
Ivan Isaacs
10-11-2005, 09:18 AM
That could get ugly.
Yeah. :D
But there is no other hero that deserves his/her/its own board. Maybe the FF would be a choice, but saleswise it wouldn't justify the effort.
It's fairly rare that I read posts here that have something nice to say about Wolverine.
If written right (like by Yoshida in AoA, Whedon in AXM or Way in his own) I will say something nice. But you said it for yourself - the overexposure made a character annoying that I once liked.
And I'm not the only one.
And now I stop because I don't want the 46466775. Wolverine discussion. :D ;)

Yeah, interestingly I'm actually glad the Hulk forum is back.
I know that before people including myself have felt that the Hulk forum was justification for others (like FF) but nowadays if it's really warranted then that's when people will come. WWH is good enough validation and I'm glad to see the CW forum down as interesting as it was since that event is pretty much done.
Looking forward to the subjects and discussion here Mike.

Hey I'm willing to wager Hulk to be the second most popular besides spider-man from Marvel. Sure he does'nt have 3 title's like the X-teams or spider-man for that matter but seeing hulk being angry and smashing things in one issue equels more greatness than any other title's.

If you make your point intelligently and effectively the first time, then you don't HAVE to repeat yourself.

Honestly, the Marvel U. board is a little bare without the Hulk threads. Although I was ( and still am ) digging the Hulk board.
The Hulk is my all-time fav. character , and possibly Marvels most steadily popular creation, outside of Spidey (who has HIS own board ;)
I'd say if it were possible, keep the Hulk board smashing. If not, oh well, it was good times while it lasted, and see you back at M.U.
