I just finished Storybook Love today and felt the urge to discuss it. I'm not sure if anyone else felt this when reading Bag O' Bones but it seemed as though, although the art was grim(zombie chickens) and there was some sex, the comic just couldn't manage to be grim. I think it's because of the writing, at the end of the story you're left with a feeling of completion whereas something like Sandman leaves you empty. I wonder if Willingham actually tries to be grim at times.

Are you specifically talking about that single issue, or the whole trade?

If the former, I think it wasn't meant to be too grim, but ironic and sardonic. It was meant to be one of those Grimm (excuse the pun) fairy tale stories leaving you with a moral lesson at the end, in this case,"Be careful what you wish for"--that a simple wish/desire has consequences you may not be aware of.
