It's fire season in Southern California, and a famous casualty of an urban (not brush) fire tonight was a picturesque old house in Pasadena, California that served the role of, among other things, "stately Wayne Manor" in the old Adam West BATMAN TV series of the 1960s. The magnificent old edifice, seen in dozens of films as well as the BATMAN series, burned to the ground.

I saw it on the news, and although a fairly trivial story (the house has been unoccupied for years, so nobody was harmed by the fire), the comics fan in me was saddened. :(

Oh crap.

That's a fantastic house, and it overlooks the archery range. It's been undergoing massive renovation lately, and the current rumors are that it was recently bought by Paul McCartney.

It's horrible that it burned.

According to tonight's news report (KTLA), the house has been on the sales market for two years, but hasn't had a taker for its $8 million asking price.

And now it's gone forever. :(

Yeah, and all they found amongst the ashes was a bust of Shakespeare which for some unexplainable reason had a flip-up head to reveal a mysterious switch...

I went to school with a guy who, rumour had it, lived in that house. He was stupid and boring, but very rich.

I wonder what kind of condition the range and clubhouse are in? They got pretty screwed the last time around.

I saw it on the TV . The mansion that was used as the front of stately Wayne Manor in the 1960's TV show burned to the ground.

They didn't mention whether Batman, Robin, Alfred and Aunt Harriet survived.

They all died, Aunt Harriet wouldn't let them out the closet.

Don't worry folks, it wasn't the Batman house. Bruce, Dick and Alfred are just fine.

According to the Star-News, the house that burned down is owned by Michael Armand Hammer, the grandson of Armand Hammer. It had been undergoing extensive renovation and the family was planning to move in within a month or two.

It WAS Wayne Manor, but only in the Tim Burton/Michael Keaton film version.

Do you mean the archery range? There's no clubhouse there anymore, remember? We are working with the city to try to get them to let us build another one, but it's slow going.

Come on down sometime.

In fact, mark your calendar: November 12 we're throwing a 70th birthday party for the PRA. It will be at the range at 2:00 PM. Free cake!

Who'd have thought that the Wayne Manors of Earth-West and Earth-Keaton were just a few blocks away from each other? :)

Two blocks.
Keaton-Wayne Manor is at 160 San Rafael.
Adam West-Wayne Manor is at 380 San Rafael.

But when the Infinite Crisis comes to the forefront, they may be one building.
