SPOILERS!

You have been warned...

And I don't know how to do invisible tags...

The currently active JSAers investigate Dr. Fate's Tower to enlist his aid in finding Jakeem (last seen being sucked into his magical pen by the Spectre). But as we already know, Spectre has sent both Hector and Lyta to some netherworld... so all they find is some damage and Fate's helmet and cape. Sand, the least psychically vulnerable, dons the helmet to hopefully communicate with Hector, and ends up channeling Nabu, whom NOONE trusts. However, given the pen, Nabu/Sand is able to open a doorway into the 5th Dimension for them to walk through. Hourman, Terrific and Stargirl make it through, but before the others (Flash, Wildcat, Midnite, Sand/Fate) can, they are blasted by Mordru who has now escaped from Shazam's Rock of Eternity (shown in a scene that ties in with Day of Vengeance, but is pretty JSA reader-friendly about it). Meanwhile, the others who went through the portal meet up with Thunderbolt and his son, who reveal to Hourman the war that is going on in the Fifth Dimension. A few fifth dimension characters have died already, and the villain is revealed to be Jakeem, who looks alot like the Kingdom Come version now, and is holding Thunderbolt's loved ones Johnny Thunder and Peachy (who is nowadays a thunderbolt) captive.

I liked it.

Specifically I liked how we saw why Shazam was so weak going up against the Spectre...

Gotta love Mordru... :evilsmile

Well , people who complained about the numerous tie-ins and not featuring enough JSA storyline in the last 2 issues of JSA , this one while featuring a crucial JSA tie-in to DOV was pretty much back on track featuring the return of Mordru. Wonder where Mxy from superman is during this 5th dimension war ?

Doesn't Mordru see that eventually the Spectre will come for him as well?

I think he doesn't care. He probably thinks someone else will deal with the Spectre before he comes for him, or is arrogant enough to believe that the Spectre poses no threat to him.

As for Jakeem looking like Kingdom Come's Thunder, check out the cover to Issue #80. (http://www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=4605)

After the lacklustre issue #77, this was an excellent return to form. It shows that Keith Champagne has obviously paying attention to the scripts Geoff Johns has been sending him to illustrate every month & picked up a few tips & techniques. Well done sir, solid work.

Also, another stunning Alex Ross cover.

Things feel back on track for JSA after those horrible crossovers, and that darn AIRWAVE/Jordan/Donna Troy issue (shudder).

Good for Mordru to be back. Frankly, I'm so glad INFINITE CRISIS IS HERE.
War in the fifth Dimension!? Give me more!

Hi guys,

Glad everyone seemed to enjoy the issue so far.

No Mxy or Batmite in this arc. I wanted to use them but wasn't allowed to kill them if I did.

Take care,
Keith

This has definatly been the strongest issue since all the crisis cross-over stuff started, but I am a huge fan of the Thunderbolt and the 5th Dimention.

This war is too good to passup, and with Mordru back it would be good.

Hi guys,

shame, i would have liked to see Batmite, etc.

Enjoyed the issue, looking forward to seeing where it goes!

Gotta save Mxy for Rucka, eh? ;)

I would have loved to seen BatMite as well.

Did I miss when Peachy became a Thunderbolt? Or when Thunderbolt has a son? Or is that all new for these stories?

Good stuff, though. Looking forward to the next couple months.

Yep, this is the JSA. Character interaction. Teams divided. Stages set. Stakes high. Cliffhanger ending.

Yep, this is the JSA. Welcome back to your own title.

Shocko may be obscure, but he's been around a long time, having first appeared in 1946 in Flash Comics #69 (http://www.comics.org/details.lasso?id=4862).

Wow. Holy crap. Nice job with the obscure continuity Keith. Thanks Loren.

The last time I remember reading about Peachy Pet was in the short-lived Justice Society of America series of '92. Johnny mentioned that she made a fortune in the frozen yogurt business. I'm curious, as well, as to when she became a T-bolt.

Since we've got Shocko and Peachy, can Kiku and Willpower be far behind?

Let's not forget Jonni Thunder aka Thunderbolt :)

I enjoyed this issue. Has Keith written comics before- this definitely didn't read like a first attempt at writing- he's welcome back anytime. I hope Jakeem's badness is temporary, he's one of my favorite JSAers.

So...uhm...

Was Hector battling some of the creatures from Seven Soldiers?

Cuz...y'know...just wondering.

This was actually a better issue, both story-wise and art-wise, than the one preceding it.

It looks like it is a good thing Geoff took a few issues off to focus on Infinite Crisis.

At the start of this issue, I felt like I'd skipped an issue. Then again, that could be because I *did* skip an issue, having passed over #77.

In #76, Hourman was looking for Dr. Fate's tower. Now they've found it, why is there a big hole in it? What's the big purple geometrical shape around it? I suspect those are T-spheres, but I can't figure out what the purple thing is supposed to be.

Also, Nabu spoke to Hourman in #76, offering to help. What became of that? And if he already spoke with Hourman, why does he act like he hasn't been able to communicate?

I don't have #77 with me but IIRC the back page of #77 was given to foreshadow #78.

It was the last page and the team hadn't found the Tower yet. It was just as the beginning of this issue where we physically see the Tower itself.

I would have to look at it again but I imagine the nest few issues will see what happened there...
