Imagine you are hired to write a new Lantern comic by DC Comics. You have complete freedom except for color. The power ring/battery weaponry is NOT GREEN>What color would you choose?

Black,grey,purple,blue,white,yellow,orange,red,bro wn,or other?

I would go with blue, because it's a popular color, though I prefer green.

Some of the other colors could be construed as having racial connotations, especially with both black and white ring wielders. Red lantern reminds me too much of a different meaning, as referenced in the excellent chinese movie, Raise the Red Lantern. Yellow or brown lantern could lead to some childish potty jokes. Orange is a slightly awkward word, and a garish color.

I'd definitely form the Grey Matter Corps. It's my favorite color and I could work that, easily.

Black, just avoid the racial connotations, a dark lantern with black ring constructs would be visually cool

Who among you would like to see an Alternative Lantern Corp in their favorite color?

I would probably make it yellow. Sinestro and Guy Gardener have already had yellow rings, so it wouldnt be to far off. Also, I wouldnt make it lantern based. I dont think there is any real reason to have a lantern shaped battery other then the name, but the concept is what is important. They could be a group of rouge GLs who defend ths universe their own way.

An excellent idea.Anti-hero characters in a Doom Patrol or Suicide Squad like format. What would you suggest to replace the traditional GLC ring/battery system. This Yellow Lantern Corps could be a rival for the GLC,perhaps with yellow lantern equivalants to Katma,Hal(Monk Loomis perhaps),Jon,Jade,Guy,Kyle,Alan and other favorites as members.

You need to pick up Green Lantern #10.

Sinestro is handing out yellow rings to big bads throughout the galaxy. He's starting "The Sinestro Corps."

I did.If this is a permanent team,clones of other GLs may be interseting.Perhaps reverse-colored ones,to match reverse-colored uniforms(yellow.white,black vs. green,black,white).A sinestro anti-Katma could have orange-within black eyes,white hair with orange highlighting,and green skin.An anti-Laira with yellow skin,anti-Arisia with purple skin.Perhaps "black"Hal ,Guy,Alan and Kyle clones,and a "white"one,among others.

What about Pink? That would be awesome! Pink Lantern...sounds kinda dirty!

Or you could borrow from the Alan Moore story about a GL from a sightless race (contained in the Tales of the DC Universe TPB): in which the green lantern (a meaningless concept for a sightless being) became the F-sharp bell.

I once saw a posting where someone proposed just that. That post no longer exists, but I borrowed this poster's member names for a Red Lantern Corps concept of my own.Although the characters would look precisley like up to 20-25 of the most famous GL members except for the green posrtions being the color of a tomato, the rings would emit an energy with a magenta PINK color.A character of my own,Jenny Harlo-the Ruby Wonder, leads this group.

In loudest din or hush profound
My ears hear evil's slightest sound
Let those who toll out evil's knell
Beware my power, the F-Sharp Bell!

I'd make the Lantern a color that's jst akward. Crayola always had those Macaroni and Cheese colored crayons. They should have a Lantern Corps. Mac and Cheese Lantern.

I'd make them invisible. It's much easier to sucker punch aliens when they can't see you coming.

That may be an idea publicity and/or novelty food for a Yellow Lantern Corps, whose rings have an Invisable Woman-like range of capabilities as well.A small yellow cylinder on a grey circle for a logo, perhaps?

I like the idea that willpower fuels what is done with the ring and the concept that current GLs need to overcome fear before their rings work on yellow.

I'd like a black --> white corps. Where depending on how much willpower you have, the more whiter/blacker your ring constructs are. So someone in the middle would be grey and if you are really strong, you/your ring/what it creates is either really black or really white.

When I was a wee kid, I only had a few comics, and didn't quite understand what the Green Lantern Corps was about, and on top of that, apparently had it confused with Voltron, so I imagined that there was a "Lantern" for each color. Somewhere in my moms garage is the sketch pad where I drew the adventures of Gold Lantern and Black Lantern.

I'd go with the Tangent version. The Green Lantern would be exactly that, wielded by an exotic, Asian woman who revives the dead to seek justice.

Red, as it was originally meant.

I'd go with red, instead of a ring, their guantlets, and to a smaller extent, their costumes, would be work like the ring does for the Green Lanterns. The battery would look like a red crystal, instead of a lantern.

Perhaps, the crystal, being the "battery", could be placed at the center of the suit, like the symbol. A Guyver-esque battery. ;)

I like that concept, Croup.

When Martin Nodell was interested in acting, and ended up “acting through pages" after his one-shot gigs at independent comic companies, he went to DC trying to get a steady one in All-American Comics. Sheldon Mayer, the editor, told him he was looking for a new hero, so pretty much Martin had free reign. After that, he went to the subway, when he saw a trainman holding a red lantern, which ignited his muse, bearing fruit to the concept until he saw the same trainman waving a green lantern, completing his creative trance...

And here we are today, discussing Green Lantern. ;)
