it was great to see the Doom Patrol on the last two episodes of Teen Titans. And the ending of the last night's episode
(I suppose SPOILERS should go here)
with the Brotherhood of Evil being expanded to include all previous Teen Titans villians shown on the show and some not shown before was a great idea. I find the show works best with an overarching plot versus one-off episodes, but it'll be nice not focusing on Deathstroke every freakin' time i turn it on.
Of course, this made me think of the recent move in Justice League Unlimited of creating a Legion of Doom where all villians join together. I don't know if big teams are the in thing or if DC has a master plan between their different properties or what but it'll be fun to watch it play out.
I had a big question though... In Homecoming II Elastigirl calls Beast Boy "Garfield." Is this the first time any of the Titans are refered to by their first names?
I know Raven has no other name. But was Starfire called Koriand'r in the episode where they go to her homeworld? I only remember everyone calling her "princess" which freaked out Robin. Did Slade ever call Robin Tim, or Beast Boy call Cyborg Cliff?
It's interesting only because Raven and Starfire were seemingly shocked that Beast Boy's real name was Garfield. They live together, spend all their free time together, woulnd't they know each other's real names? Or is it like Magneto wanted in the early 90s were mutants (and in this case, folks with powers) throw off the names given to them by their oppressors and use only monikers they choose. Kunta Kinte, if you will.
These episodes with Doom Patrol and this thought of names led to me think about the adults in the Titans' lives. Is there a Batman in this world? A JLA? An Outsiders? Who raised these teens? Do they go to school? Sure, its just a cartoon that is supposed to be fun and have kick-ass action but the creators add details to ground the show in both the comics history and the reality of teenagehood.
(Maybe another SPOILER warning here)
I was looking around on imdb about the show and it listed guest appearances and titles through the end of the year. One is Michael Rosenbaum as Kid Flash. He of course voices the Flash on JLU and is Lex Luthor on Smallville. Is this a continuity between JLU and Teen Titans or just a nice nod of the head to Rosenbaum's good work on JLU and why fix it if it aint broker mentality? If Joker were to appear and Mark Hamill provided the voice would it be a similar thing or tie together Batman TAS and JLU and Superman Adventures and Teen Titans?
I know Im rambling here so to finish off I want to say that I would love to see the Outsiders on the show. Older, more seasoned heroes but not parental figures or tied to any one character. The Twenties Titans, if you would. Maybe a mix of the old and the new. And, like they successfully did with the Doom Patrol, include the new group not to take away from the Titans, but to add more character nuances through the two groups interaction. that is all.
