As much a fan of the original L&O and the short-lived Trial by Jury as I am, I never really got into SVU and had never seen an episode of CI until tonight.

So, what got me to watch tonight? The return of original L&O character Mike Logan after being Exiled for so long. Really enjoyed how the writers gave Mike's background and tied it into the story. Maybe now that Logan has been re-established, his quirky partner will get more of the spotlight next time.

They didn't sweep his rage under the carpet, mentioned his mother's abusive ways, and even gave a cool shout-out to the late Jerry Orbach/Lennie Briscoe in the pool house interrogation scene. They got people who don't watch the TNT reruns up to speed on the original "younger detective" character (now much more mature) and gave him a bizarre mystery to work out.

As far as the rest of the story, I thought they were going to establish a "Gift of the Magi" motif with the guy pawning his watch to pay for an engagement ring and his fiancee going to buy him a new watch band for the hocked timepiece.

To sum up, I can't wait for the next Logan episode of CI. Now, if only the producers of the original would put Jack McCoy out to pasture and bring in TBJ's Tracy Kibre (Bebe Neuwirth) to shake things up a bit...

SVU is probably the best one going now.

Anyway, I watched CI as the 49'ers vs. Cardinals game was too horrific to waste my time on, and I learned one thing. Chris Noth is no Vincent D'Onofrio; clearly a step down.

One of my favorite L&O scenes from last year was when Logan was on the verge of beating the prime suspect within an inch of his life in a prison. D'onofrio was the voice of reason that got Logan to calm down, which is no mean feat considering Logan's past.
