Slightly off-topic, but I have nowhere else to mention it:

VariousandSundry.com was hacked this weekend, while I wasn't around to tend to it. Since it's something I do for the pure fun of it, rebuilding the website (or, at least, reviving the taped backups) was not a front burner item for me. VandS will be back up again soon in the days ahead. We know that it's disappeared. I'll let you all know when it's back up and running.

Let this be a lesson to the rest of you: When security updates come up for the software your web site runs, install it sooner rather than later.

First I saw that the feed wasn't loading and thought it was a UTF/ASCII thing.
Then I hit the site, and it had that brainiac. And I just thought the site was down for repair.
But hacked... didn't even think of that.

Deathstroke - Yup, bad me. Bad bad me. I'm just lazy. Now I HAVE to devote the time to it to get it fixed. The podcast will be delayed, too.

And I hadn't missed a daily update on the thing in months -- perhaps over a year. I had posts set to publish automatically on Saturday and Sunday, but nothing for today. It's the end of an era.

Sleeper - Yeah, always assume the worst and work backwards.

I'm not smart enough to know how to take down the site while repairing it. ;-)

Various and Sundry is live once again. I'll be playing with the settings in the days ahead to add everything back in that needs adding.

The politics blog is off-line, still. I need to upgrade that separately, and I'm not really sure how much I want to bother with it. We'll see. . .

Thanks. It is a much cleaner look, but I can't take credit for it. Like the last version of the site, this one is using the default template for WordPress. I'll be toying with it eventually, but I do like it bunches over the old look.
