Can someone explain to me how Abyss and Nightcrawler are half-brothers? And, would this be part of the Darkholme (sp?) family tree?

oh, it's not much really. Nightcrawler's mother is Mystique, as you probably know. His father is Satan and all that. Nice guy, and all. Satan was trapped on some alternate dimension because some angelic like mutants didn't like him because he was Satan, and so got on his pimp coat, went back to Earth and had sex with a zillion different women (including Mystique, and Abyss's unknown mother). Satan was a teleporter, and so his babies would also be teleporters, so that they can teleport a huge hole for him to go back to Earth, even though he was already able to get back to Earth.
Yes, it's that bad. If you really want to check it out, go find Uncanny X-Men 428-434, though I would advise you not to.

LOL! I'll take your advice, sounds like a rundown of a terrible bed-time story.

your wrong. Nightcrawlers father Azazel, claimed to be Satan but it was revealed through archoelogical evidence that though he looked like a devil he was just a mutant who could teleport and somehow was very old

He didn't want them to be teleporters so he could get back to Earth, he wanted them to bring his army to Earth.

What was Azazel/Satan first appearance? And, in what context?

If I am not mistaken he teleported like Nightcrawler does and if Nightcrawler carries people with him it takes alot out of him. Imagine if Nightcrawler had to take a whole army.

But not if you value your sanity ;) It's widely considered one of the worst X-Men stories in recent memory.
Mystique was married to the famed German baron, but met up with a handsome 'nobleman' named Azazel...they had sex, she got pregnant with Nightcrawler, and then killed her baron husband to keep him from finding out the truth of NC's parentage. Azazel revealed himself as a red creature who looked rather like Kurt (except red, of course), and took off. He went around Earth impregnating various women to bear him some teleporter kids -- Abyss is another one, with an anonymous mother, and Kiwi Black is another. He wanted the teleporters to bring his army to Earth from the dimension they were stuck in. Azazel is NOT Satan, but he's a very old mutant whose fiendish appearance supposedly inspired the legends of Satan.

By referring to Azazel as Satan, it helps fans think about him as if he doesn't really exist. Calling him by his real name validates his existence (and he doesn't deserve that). ;) Like the Boogeyman. The Draco was such an awful story. It's just easier to go on believing it never really happened, and it was all a bad dream.

The Draco was one of my favorite story ideas...until the first issue of the arc came out. I liked the prelude and the premise of Nightcrawler's origin was promising. Alas....what a waste of paper and ink.

One of the women Azazel hinted on having sex with was Margali Szardos. Was it ever revealed who Amanda's father is?

If it was Azazel..that's just kind of...ewwwww. Perhaps Nightcrawler really should just stick with celibacy.

The Draco storyline, by portraying Azazel as the basis for the Devil, completely ignore characters like, say, I don't know, Mephisto... Satannish... those sort of folk that kinda really resemble the biblical interpretation of the Devil. Which makes you wonder just who Johnny Blaze sold his soul to?
The Marvel Universe presumes the armies of Heaven and Hell are pretty much a given. Trying to give a biological origin to it was just plain idiocy.

The Draco was a decent plot and the ideas were awesome but Austen was to limited a writer to convey what he was trying to say and do.
Buy the TPB read it once-vomit- read it twice- cry- read it three times accept it

Go to a bookstore chain like Waldens, Borders or Barnes & Noble and read it in the store. It's not worth buying.

trhe strangest thin in Draco was the simulairity of lookf of Kurt and Abyss. Before the Abyss looked much different and his looks were cool. The new looks of Abyss were terrible.

Wasn't it written by Austen who tends to ignore whatever continuity there is and write whatever he likes , in which case , usually stories that involved hoping into bed or sex of some kind. ;)

What ever happened to the Genoshan Doctor that Abyss was protecting? Abyss had the Legacy virus and was being hunted by Genoshan special ops.

i can't recall her name, but i do remember she later was seen protecting nina during the 'hunt for xavier' storyline. she may or may not have been killed by cerebro, i can't remember. it was definitely the same woman, though.

During the arc where the Uncanny team goes to Germany or something and confronts Banshee about his mutant police group (can't remember their name), Abyss is captured by them after being attacked by Fever Pitch. They mention that he was once infected by the Legacy virus but is now cured and he's having trouble controlling his powers. Later he sucks Mystique into his vortex.

Err..that Draco story sucked. There's a ring in hell reserved for Austen ;) Just kidding. Sure he'll get to hack writer's heaven.
Is the Abyss that you all are referring to the 616 version of the character that appeared in Age of Apocalypse as a Horseman?

A lot of people are saying that it is the worst X-Men story of all time, but seriously: Isn't it the worst X-Men story of all time? I cant think of anything else that was worse.
and MrHooligan, please, please, please dont buy it. If you want to spend the money, then get the X-Treme X-Men trades, especially Prisoner of Fire and Schism. Or more importantly, the Essential X-Men volumes. :)

Ok, I just returned from visiting a friend at BORDER's and while waiting I flipped through the Draco TPB. Fishtaco, you will be happy to know that I didn't purchase it, but I was upset that I forgot my lighter... :D That was pretty much the worst story I've ever read...why is it still in stores? Some innocent newcomer could get his hands on it and they would be turned off from comics forever!!! As opposed to being turned on by comics which could be different thread unto itself! :p

For all the things X-readers on this board argue about, I bet almost everybody could agree about The Draco being the worst X-story in ever.
The silver lining- I always liked Abyss. I think it's kind of cool that Kurt has a kid brother now. If only that was followed up on...

Dude, Claremont's early stuff which the Essentials covers, is pure comic book GOLD. You'll be hard-pressed not to find anything else as entertaining for this cheap. Once you get reading it, the lack of colors will not bother you. (Personally, I think the art is better without the colors with the atrocious color system back in the seventies.)
But dude, unless you're a die-hard like everyone else in this board, stay the heck away from Claremont's present stuff. Especially if you're a new fan. I'm sorry to all the die-hard Claremont fans but his new stuff is the last thing I'd give to a new reader if I was trying to get him hooked to comics, especially X-Men ones.
The best X-Men you can read right now is the Essentials, Astonishing X-Men, and Ultimate X-Men. Stay away from the 90s, nothing was coherent in that whole decade except Age of Apocolypse, and even that had heavy continuity.
If you got the cash and time, I suggest you pick up the first half of New Mutants. It was a good run, a few issues were bad but still a good run nonetheless. Generation X was good too but only for the first thirty issues or so.

That's just going to get people confused with the 616 universe. There was still a lot of cohesivity in the 90's. Much, much more than there is now, but it was still pretty bad. Good trades to get would be X-Men: Old Soldiers, X-Men Visionaries: Jim Lee, Chris Claremont, that last AOA tpb, Grant Morrison's New X-Men trades, AXM trade, and a few crossover tpbs like Inferno, Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, X-Tinction Agenda, Dreams End and possibly Eve of Destruction.
Getting caught up to all the stuff is no easy task, and you cant do it without reading Claremont's work both current and past, not to mention other writers who have made major contributions such as Grant Morrison, Fabian Nicieza, Scott Lobdell, heck even Chuck Austen.
But back to Abyss and Nightcrawler...
