The Jodie Foster film Flightplan held onto the box office lead this weekend with $15.038 million dollars. It's made $46,145,000 so far.

Second place was Serenity with $10,141 million in the debut weekend for the film.

Third place was Tim Burton's Corpse Bride with $9.755 million. It now stands with a box office take of $32,910,000.

04. A History Of Violence $8.2 million ($8,969,000)

05. Into The Blue $7.0 million (DEBUT)

06. Just Like Heaven $6.1 million ($38,396,000)

07. The Exorcism of Emily Rose $4.4 million ($68,522,000)

08. Roll Bounce $4.025 million ($12,673,000)

09. The Greatest Game Ever Played $3.749 million (DEBUT)

10. The 40-Year-Old Virgin $3.110 million ($101,396,000)

NOTES:

I've seen three movies on the list. I liked Flightplan, didn't much like most of Into The Blue (though it does prove Jessica Alba has the finest ass in the known universe), and I LOVED, I mean absolutely freaking LOVED Serenity!

It only brought in about 25 percent of the film budget in the debut weekend so I don't know how they'll consider the film, but I was hoping to see a lot higher number in the debut weekend for Serenity. I can't recommend this movie highly enough. Even people who didn't watch the show in the theater I was in, LOVED the movie.

I'm looking forward to checking out A History of Violence, and I want to see The Greatest Game Ever Played. My parents saw it this past Friday and they said it was excellent.

I'll probably see Just Like Heaven on DVD, but I'm not interested in the other movies on the list.

I've seen Serenity and Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. I liked both with Serenity being the better of the two.

I'll eventually see Flightplan, A History Of Violence, Into The Blue , Just Like Heaven, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Greatest Game Ever Played and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

I'll be watching History Of Violence on DVD.

Unsure whether I'll watch Serenity on DVD or at the movies since I've tried multiple times but just can't get into the series.

I dunno where you get this info Deathy. .

but how did MirrorMask do?

the studio was going to decide on a wide release based on this weekend's small showings.

It's got some very mixed reviews. Pretty awful ones which is unfortunate.

Lets here it for 40 Year Old Virgin making over 100 million. Judd Apatow you've been vindicated!

I have seen these films from the list:

Flight Plan- Entertaining diversion. Really had a good time. Foster is still a powerful film presence and an appealing star.

Serenity- I was dragged to the theater by a Browncoat friend who had almost forced me to watch three episodes of the show on which it's based. I found the episodes boring, and the film was really really bad.
I think the marketing was horrible, I didn't know this film even existed, seriously and the film is predictably tanking.

Into The Blue-fluffy , good-looking crap. Alba is unquestionably a hottie but the film has a terrible script. All in all, eye-candy that is only a little less boring than Serenity, mainly because of Alba.

Corpse Bride is a blast, Made me smile almost throughout the entire film. Tim Burton once again hits the bullseye.

I still want to see A History Of Violence and Mirror Mask.

I think what hurt Serenity was the fact it was pretty much geared towards a small fraction of fans who loved Firefly. Nothing wrong with that idea. Its just that getting it to support as release as a major motion picture would be hard.

I think more people will go see DOOM than Serenity at this point.

The sad thing is, you really don't need to have seen Firefly to follow Serenity. River and Simon's backstory is covered in the first few minutes, and everything else you might need to know about the characters and the overall premise from the series is referenced suitably in the film. I think the film will still do well, though. The budget was only forty million, and I think they can make a good deal of that money back domestically, and the more people who discover the show on DVD, will probably check the movie out on DVD.

Between this, Corpse Bride and Mirrormask, I had a pretty satisfying movie weekend. Mirrormask was fabulous, and equally impressive as the visuals was the music. It complimented the film beautifully.

Does Into the Blue remind anyone else of Peter Benchley's The Deep? Both movies have the exact same premise.

Alot of people have commented on this and I agree. The premise, the girl in the sexy t-shirt/bikini, the exotic locale, but instead of drugs, it's gold/treasure andof course the mani difference is that The Deep had Nick Nolte/Jacquline Bisset and Robert Shaw.
