It's Robert Kirkman. Which was one of the two names I guessed (the other being that guy who writes "Young Avengers" ;))

Looks like some people were right. (can't remember where the discussion for the new writer happened)

I hope this isn't already old news. If it is, I completely missed it...

And having Raney and Dillon on art, should make Kirkman's run decent.

I'm surprised. He doesn't seem very X-y.

Cool. I was hoping for either him or Tony Bedard. Sounds like a good choice to me, though I'll still miss Brian K. Vaughan's work.

Aw man, Robert Kirkman as the new Ultimate X-Men writer? That is fantastic. Though I will also miss Vaughan.

That's what I want to know. I also want to know why Tom Raney is taking over. His work is so uneven.

Whatever happened to Singer taking over?
It keeps getting pushed back, and back, and back. Supposed to start in the Summer of '06 now, but we'll see if it even happens then. :p

Kirkman writing Ultimate X-Men?!

Looks like I'll be continuing to buy that book...!

Just a thought: Kirkman, Brubaker, and JMS are taking over the MU. Dan Slott is getting HUGE too. It's cool to watch these guys' reaches expand.

My question, does anyone even care about singer anymore, i mean he isnt directing the next movie, it seems like the hype has passed

Great choices actually. Great opportunity for Kirkman especially.

Sounds great. Can someone remind me of Kirkman's work? Raney also. Not sure I'll start reading the title again but I'll definitely be reading about it on the net. Also is anyone else having problems getting to newsarama.com? I've been trying for like an hour.

Man, I can't believe how many people out there think that Steve Dillons art is worth buying a book for. I think its horribly bland. Tom Raneys art in the X-men annual and the newest Ultimate Secret looks really good to me. Robert Kirkman is always good.

I like Raney's art. An example would be the Search for Cyclops mini. And quite a few Uncanny issues.

Not familiar with Kirkman's writing though.

Not familier eithor with Kirkman's work. I do expect with the hype and praise he's gettin that he'll do an ok job.

At this point , who wants Singer on the book anyhow ? By mid 2006 , X3 will be hittin and its not gonna be his vision anyhow.

When Raney's on he's great. When he's off he's not. So here's hopin' he's on for this.

The only thing I've read by Kirkman is the first treade of The Walking Dead, which I did not like much at all. But I'll give it a go.

The only Kirkman thing I've read was "Invincible."

His writing is very excellent on there.

His "MTU" stories seem fun, from what I've seen when I flip through them in Borders.

But I think he's capable of a story arc *coughfillercough* or two until Singer comes on. :)

Yeeeah. I wasn't ever so big on Singer doing his Ultimate X-Men story to begin with. So I'm pretty happy that it's still going to be a while before he's writing.

*chuckles*

And how do you think Jubilee will be ultimatized? We already have a punkish Dazzler and a Cyclops from the streets (at least, where it affects him more than it did in 616).

I almost want a stuck-up daddy's little girl w/ daddy's credit card where Jubilee's parents aren't dead and she didn't escape to the mall. Okay, okay...maybe not.

That could be kind of interesting. Or maybe even make her a stereotypical, studious Asian American girl. Or maybe make her quite a bit older. Maybe a villain. Maybe even make her a knock off pop star act of Dazzler.

I'll settle for a cameo.

On Dillons' art: Not too thrilled about it. I loved his work on Punisher and Preaher, so much that in any other genre, it just doesn't feel right. His one-shot with Vaughan earlier was great because he didn't have to draw the X-Men team the whole issue besides the splash page the ywere fighting Warlock. If Dillon isn't drawing Italian mobsters getting massacred or redneck Vampires, then it just gel for me....I'm not a big fan of Immonen but at least he "fits" better on Ult. X....

Kirkman: This is excellent news, ofcourse I wish Vaughan could stay forever, but this probably was the best choice (either him or Brubaker) His run on The Walking Dead is classic and I hear Invincible is great as well.....

Singer: Good, I never wanted to read what he had to write anyways...

I'll settle for Ultimate Jubilee getting the same treatment as Ultimate Marrow... killed off-panel.

Kirkman's a bit of an unconventional choice, I think. He can do straight and very fun super hero stories. I know I was surprised. But going by The Walking Dead, Kirkman can also pull off creepy horror stories.

Kirkman is the writer of Invincible (Image), Walking Dead (Image), Marvel Team-Up (Marvel), and a few other titles out there.

His super hero work tends to be fun. I like his stuff very, very much. Looking forward to his X-Men but I'm just surprised he's going to write it.

And since Spidey is dating Kitty, this should give Kirkman that chance to write Ultimate Spider-Man (which is apparently something he wants to do).

Havent read enough Kirkman to really have an opinion, from what Ive read, he delivers fairly straight forward superhero yarn, and thats fine, but not what I really want on an Ultimate book.

Tom Raney, IMO, is completely wrong for this book. His work is all style, no substance. Generic storytelling ability, and his character work, overall, is pretty weak.

Dream team would have been Brubaker and Jae Lee on this book.

I'd give Kirkmans run a chance if it werent for Raney.

Wow! Kirkman might be enough to bring me back to this book... if Spidey/Kitty is included I'm there for sure!
