View Full Version : Most annoying character on any TV show

This may have been done before, but while watching 'I Dream of Jeannie' today that Dr.Bellows struck me as the most annoying character on TV. So much so that I had to turn the channel. (granted Jeannie isn't the best show anyway)

So I was wondering what TV character do you think is most annoying? One you'd beat the crap out of if you ran into them.

Kristin Kreuk's Lana Lang. From Smallville. She's so whiny and without her there would be less Dawson's Creek moments in the show. I don't hit ladies though so I'd leave that bit up to my wife. It'd be fun to watch too.

URKEL!!!

I didn't watch the show he's from, but he was so unbearable, that I had to turn the channel when they advertised the show!

Jack, from Will & Grace still has his moments, but he was much funnier in the first few seasons. Back then, he still had some capabilities in the world. Now he's a complete twit, and aside from nursing, which he quickly dumped, absolutely useless. The one I'd nominate from that show, is Grace. The first mistake they made with her, was to make her an incredibly shrill, cloying, overly-needy B!+@# when she married Leo. Even after he was written out, they never fixed her, in fact, the episodes that she wasn't on, because of the actress' preganacy, the show was better. That's a MAJOR problem!

I'm gonna have to argue about Theo. He grew up a lot in the later seasons(I think around the time he started going to college and was diagnosed with dyslexia was when he changed). Besides, Bill Cosby based Theo on his own son, who later was killed in a drive-by when he was simply changing the tire on his car by the side of the road. So I can't really look at Theo on The Cosby Show without feeling a little melencholy.

I remember when Cosby first appeared in public after his son's death. The only thing he would say to the crowd of reporters asking him about his son was, "He was my hero."

Now, if you want annoying, try Whitley from "A Different World". Just what the world needed, an African American version of Fran Dresher!

Rather "retired" after it was revealed that supposed AWOL letter was written on Microsoft Word, but CBS News aired the segment despite people saying it cannot be true. Rather stood by the story & was consumed by the controversy. Months later he retired to go work on 60 Minutes II. However, 60 Minutes II was cancelled to due to low raitings. Rather is in limbo with George Soros.

For shee numbers of annoying characters you can't go wrong with "Doctor Who". With over 45 years of episodes to go through here are some of the ones that make me want to break my DVD's...

Dodo Chaplet. For god's sake her name says it all! DODO!

Adric. He not only defined annoying he also defined 'dumb'. If there was evil about you could bet that he would end up allied with it; and not out of some sneaky desire to be evil or have power or something (I could actually kind of respect that) but no just out of sheer naivete! At SOME point one would htink he would learn his lesson!!

Perpugilliam "Peri" . The writers managed to create a character who was generally ignorant vapid and useless most of the time. Way to go writers!!

Melanie "Mel" Bush. Another character who should have been too naive to live and her screams could shatter glass and the writers gave her far too many opportnities to do just that.

I like 13... But it's probably mostly the hot/ bisexual/ disease thing. They did kind of overdo her development, in comparison Chase got next to none until season 6, Kutner got none until he killed himself.

Anyway... Just a few.
Mercedes (Glee) - she's got a good voice but at times she really hogs the spotlight.
Jam/ Pim/ Kelly (The Office) - Jam became the annoying couple since they got married, Kelly is annoying but she's supposed to be so it works.
Entire Heroes cast - except for maybe HRG. They even managed to make Hiro irritating.
Jack/ Kate (Lost) - zzzzzz.
Marshall/ Lily (HIMYM) - I liked the actors in Freaks & Geeks/ Buffy, but they just really annoy me in this.

In the context of my question - agree with Sylar (mostly Season 1, indeed) and Linderman. They plus HRG are the solid characters in Heroes.

But the others are various levels of annoying. The cheerleader is my favourite in that respect. Pity they gave her a healing factor - I would have wished her many kinds of death otherwise.

We've got a TV sports guy called Colin Murray, who has somehow managed to monopolise Network TV football and National radio football coverage this season. While I don't find him 'annoying' so far, by the end of the May I think I will probably be so sick of his Irish voice (and those of his football cronies: Pat Nevin and Perry Groves) telling me how I should think about football/how he loves Liverpool/how Ireland have been screwed by Thierry Henry, that I may be forced declare jihad on him and them therefore ruining my World Cup.

Oh and while I'm at it: Stephen Fry. While you Americans get Hugh Laurie we get the other one, who is so over-exposed here that he made a TV show called 'Last Chance to See'. The concept involved Fry going all over the world with four (yes 4) iPhones (he is an avid twitterer, so by complaining about him I am probably going to get death threats from his followers) just so he could point a finger at an endangered animal all the while complaining about the hardships he's had to endure to see the bastard creature.

That was really cathartic. Many Thanks forum land.

Why is he still called HRG? Hell, it was revealed he was "Mr. Bennet" at the end of the first or second episode, as I recall.

I find myself hoping 13's disease either gets cured so we can be done with that plot line, or it progresses rapidly and finishes her off.

On Battlestar Galactica, Helo started out cool with his "Last Man on Caprica" story. Alas, he became a dull, obnoxious, self-righteous prick from the second season onward.

Yeah it's mostly Noah now, but it's usually just HRG out of habit.

13... Well, ideally House probably should finish at the end of this season, but it'll probably get renewed for at least a seventh.
It would be nice to see something a little like the Six Feet Under finale, showing the characters' futures, so we can see what happens to them, then they could have Thirteen's Huntingtons getting as bad as it gets, and House and Wilson finally getting married.

Except that he was intended to be a villain and a foil for the series' protagonists.
I mean, surely you wouldn't want a villain to be faithful, considerate, brave, self-confident, honest and egalitarian.
Also, as far as I recall, while he wasn't the genius that 'Hawkeye' Pierce was, he was usually depicted as a competent, if not brilliant, surgeon.

Hiro from Heroes - I dubbed him Jar Jar Hiro on day one of the show and he's only gotten worse since then.

Lois Lane from Smallville - she is so bad I actually found myself enjoying the Lana arc last season and I hate Lana.

Walter - Fringe I want to love this show but his character is so incredibly unrealistic and annoying. You don't spend 18 years in a mental ward and remain a genius on current science as it changes far too fast now.

Witch Girl - Vampire Diaries - I can't even remember her name but she is the token black friend character who has this ridiculous witch story thrust on her to make her less tokenish. Why can't a vampire show stay being just about vampires?

Kennedy - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - I never bought into the Willow / Tara (Willow and Oz forever for me) so I wasn't upset about her being Tara's replacement. I didn't like Kennedy because she was annoying bitch.

Speaking of which:

Rona - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - So many of the season VII slayerettes were cool and fun. And except for Violet (yay Felicia Day) they all died while the annoying ones like Rona lived.

I thought the most annoying slayerette was Molly the "Cor Blimey I'm English ain't I?" Slayer. There were some pretty dodgy accents on the show (Drusilla was forgiven because she played the part so well, but Angel's "Oirish" flashbacks? no) but Molly just sounded so bad It's a wonder that Tony Head didn't slap her & tell her to try better or keep her mouth shut!

Not only that but he is also there to help with the Fringe sciences cases that he helped work on before being committed. He doesn't have to be up to date with todays tech, he has to try to remember what he did 18 years ago, which is still WAY beyond what science right now is achieving.

In your trying to love the show, I think you missed the basic plot point that all of the scientific curiosities they are investigating were basically originally created BY him.

Troi is ok, but I'd take Dr. Crusher, Ro or 1st season Tasha over her any day, and she went back to Will in the movies anyway. Also, while Jadzia was hot, that was a space station, not a ship, and she died anyway.

Big Bang's Sheldon.

We are very different people...

The 1st part is true, but he was always incompetent. He cheated to get through med school, and other doctors often had to help him/correct his mistakes.

I'm not sure why so many are bashing on Rita from Dexter. Sure she has been upset with Dexter but lets consider: Dexter cheated on her, he's told her he's a drug addict, he stays out at all hours of the night, he lies to her constantly, and he kept his own apartment which most women would think meant he was keeping a bachelor pad for another Lila. All in all I think she's been very tolerant to the point of it being PIS to keep trusting him. We all see Dexter as the sort of hero but in reality he doesn't treat Rita very well.

You realize that the series is based on the book written in 1990 by Douglas Adams, where Adams (and World Wildlife Fund cameraman, Mark Cawardine) journeyed around the world to see extremely endangered species before they become extinct, with Adams describing the various travails he's had to go through to get there.
And that the reason Fry is doing it is because (a) he was friends with Adams, and (b) because Douglas Adams is, due to death, unable to do it himself.

I think the root of Rita hate has little to do with what Dexter has done to her and more to do with how her original character was. Season 1 Rita was a developed character she had different moods now she's just a one-note character.

Can you imagine this Rita busting out a Lara Croft outfit, I miss that Rita.

She is a whiner because she's worried her husband is cheating on her again? Seriously, all she's really done this season is get upset at him because of his apartment which would be a huge red flag in anyone's eyes. Season I Rita was an extremely damaged Rita who has managed to become somewhat normal. Now her primary focus is being a good wife and mom and Dexter keeps threatening both of those things with his lies and shenanigans.

And anyway, TV show Rita is much more tolerable than book Rita.

In fairness to the show, that was the point. Every character on Seinfeld was intended to be annoying, and almost irredeemable. And in that they succeeded. I am by no means a "fan" of the show, but I have also seen more than 3. It is the kind of show where you are completely lost if you don't catch any episode from the very beginning of that episode.
