So did anyone else get this and, if so, what'd you think? Personally I liked how it didn't focus on the superhero aspect of it, making the Vigilante out to be more of a mass murderer with morals than some masked avenger. The focus on the cops helped that a lot, leaving the actual title character out of it almost completely. I wonder if they're going to continue on in this direction, it could be interesting.

Then again I liked Lex Luthor: Man of Steel and the Question, both of which are in this "series" of miniseries so I'm obviously a fan. What'd y'all think?

I really enjoyed it. I find the title character intriguing. I thought the character was a bit of a nutcase. It had a very mysterious feel to it. I can't wait for the second issue.

Picked up the first issue. Nice intro to the character. Seems pretty disturbed. Looking forward to issue two.

The female shrink has an annoyingly high bimbo factor, but the rest was fine. I'm picking up the second.

The only thing wrong with that (and Marvel experienced it with Bruce Jones's Hulk and the most recent Silver Surfer series) is people buy the book for the main character... not the odd appearance of him/her and that type of storytelling might wear thin fast.

I pulled it but didn't buy it yet.

See I'd agree with that if we were dealing with a big-named character like Superman, Batman, or Spider-Man (or Hulk and Silver Surfer for that matter) where people are buying the comic for the title character. It's possible that people are buying this comic because they really want to see the next Vigilante but, somehow, I doubt that's the main crowd. Certainly I didn't snag it because I really wondered who the new superhero on the block was.

Then why did you?

is this the western, 6 shooter Vigilante or a reworking of this character ala Manhunter??

Because I saw a good review of it and heard good things from my comic book retailer, plus I enjoyed both Lex Luthor and the Question which were part of this series of comics.

And this is a reworking of the character.

I never heard that. How are Luthor, Question, and this a series when they're all by different creators? Are they stylistically similar in some regard?

Reversion to the weak DC Punisher knock-off that Wolfman spun off from Teen Titans.

I got that from this article (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=5116) a while back. specifically this quote:

This new "The Question" mini-series was originally conceived as part of a planned "Superstorm" event, a series of books featuring DC heroes but handled through the Wildstorm editorial offices. "Superstorm" was to include a series for our faceless hero as well as the Vigilante, and the books were to be built around the "Lex Luthor: Man of Steel" mini-series by Brian Azzarello, the first issue of which just recently hit comic shops. The line hit a number of bumps when the original writer of "Vigilante" was fired and plans for the line had to be scrapped, but the books ended up being released as part of the regular DCU.

So apparently Vigilante got back on it's feet at some point and I liked the other two listed enough to go for it. I'm glad I did. :)

Ah, I see. DC characters done by Wildstorm editors...odd, but whatever works.

I remember when Vigilante was originally announced. Micah Wright was the writer who was fired, right?

Yeah.

The idea of Micah Wright doing it is somewhat interesting.

Just playing Vigilante to type sort of isn't.

But I haven't read it.

Is it working against type, or for it?

This reminded more of The Shadow than anything, not that that's a bad thing.

Nice art.

Bruce Jones is very hit or miss. He plays the long game for too long stringing us out sometimes (Hulk).

Micah's Vigilante was supposed to be hunting white collar criminals that are otherwise untouchable i.e. Enron, Worldcomm, etc. THAT would have been SO cool. This looks good too. Interested to see where it's going.

That bimbo psych chick is working with Vig, I'll bet.

Read this the other night before bed.

I really enjoyed this.

I really liked who his victims were. A child killer and a Biker who beats up hookers.

I may be totally off base here, but I'm sort of getting the impression vibe that Vigilante may be Lansky the photographer. I'm proabably wrong.

I just picked this book up this week, and I really liked it, it reminded me of the old Dark Horse title X.

Nice to hear someone else mention or reference any of those Dark Horse Heroes (originally Comics Greatest World...). They were great ! I've been patiently waiting for their return. They had great art AND story.
