Godwave

I've never read the Genesis event from 1997, but I've heard that it said that most of earth's superhumans or superpowers are the result of the Godwave that is related to the New Gods? Can someone expand on this? Does this mean that most DC characters were created because of the Godwave? Where does the metagene fit into this? Has any of this been retconned?

Oh and I know a lot of people hated Genesis, but please keep the ranting to a minimum... :p

This was en esp weak mini, but I did like the Godwave concept. Byrne was doing the New Gods at that time, and this was basically a New Gods mini. The art by Ron Wagner was horrible tho.

Not, but it has not been mentioned since, and it has been contradicted a lot.
