He's lossing weight, he's just so large that it'll take a while for it to be noticeable (especially since it's only been a little over a month and they are all eating fairly well).

They've addressed that on the show.

IIRC, they've only been on the island for a month at most. The castaways seem to have been eating regularly. He's not going to lose that much weight.

They brought this up in the 1st season and he defended it. " Dude if ya ain't noticed , I'm a fat guy! Its gonna take me awhile til I ask for a piggyback! "

I'm still asking that about the Skipper from Gilligan's Island. One would think he'd be tired of coconut cream pies all the time.

I'm guessing its going to be along the same lines as Why can Locke walk?
The island is odd.
But on a more realistic note, it hasn't been that long and Hurly won't show loosing that much weight that soon.

And he also said in the show that he had lost one belt notch.

Well, if you've been paying attention, as of the second episode of the second season, it's been only 44 days since the plane crash. It's not like Hurley's going to become "Mr. Slim Jim" overnight.

I would say that the character's weight loss is entirely commensurate with the amount of time he's been on the island.

What will be more problematic from a continuity standpoint will be the growth of Michael's son Walt. At some point the young actor is going to hit a growth spurt and start to look really different from how he looked at the beginning of the show. That might have even already happened over the summer. But what are you gonna do? Kill him off? Hope not.

Because at night, Hurley sneaks off the island, empties out a 7-Eleven, then bangs your mom.

Wow. It's such a total mystery. I guess the writers will slowly reveal why the fat guy ain't getting any slimmer. It must have something to do with magic numbers or something.

Remember Dr. Arnst commented on this in towards the end of the season. Something like "You know, some of us have actually managed to lose weight since we've been here. Where are you hiding the carbs!" Really though, just 44 days of eating fish, fruit, whatever was left from the plane, and boar on at least one occassion, he probably wouldn't lose all that much. And maybe all the surviviors will end up getting access to the food supply (including chocolate bars) down in the hatch.

It's probably something the makers just don't worry about, so long as the actor doesn't actually get visibly fatter. Kinda like how nobody gets sunburn. And Jack's had more facial hair in the season finale than in the premire which picks up just moments later.

Hurley hungry! Must...eat...sand!Mmmmmm, good palm leaves! Lotsa fiber!

"Hey, Claire! You wanna give me your baby? Git in me belly, baby! I'm gonna eatcha!"

What does anyone expect from Hollyweird? If you want to see someone lose weight, watch Survivor. Otherwise, the actors go back to their posh homes & eat to their hearts' contents...unless they are stick figure women looking to "lose weight" to keep slim by doing nasty things about their eating habits.

I remember reading an article about Jorge Garcia and he said he's trying to lose some weight right now for health reasons. I'm hoping he makes it.

The lack of beards does bug me. If I was on that island for 44 days I'd resemble Billy Gibbons.

Actually, there's one that Peter David pointed out that really is indefensible from a logic standpoint, though for the sake of aesthetics I'm inclined to give it to them. The women are all still shaving their legs and underarms. But with what? Technically, I don't think they have razors or toiletries, do they? Surely they're not using Locke's cutlery.

Hurley's weight, on the other hand, they've addressed in a couple of different episodes. It's only been 44 days as of the premiere, and they've been eating pretty well. According to the producers that was one of the reasons they did the boar hunt storyline, to establish that the castaways have plenty to eat.

Hey, these guys are pretty much on the South Beach diet ain't they? they should be losing weight kinda fast.

It must be the mysticism of the numbers. Hurley's waistline is 42 inches. If it dropped below that he'd die.

Also it would cut down on any potential bikini scenes. Especially if they um let the garden grow....

But didn't Locke only get a boar once? I seem to recall several instances of characters complaining that he never seemed to get any, and wondering what he was really doing out there.

As for the women, while you can't have razors in your carry-on luggage anymore, I don't see why there couldn't be some that were in the were in the cargo compartment. Maybe someone brought a whole pack.

Maybe Locke is showing them how to shave with his knife Riddick style

He got a couple boars early on. Then the boars ran out/Locke stopped hunting them to work on the hatch. But by that time, they had also learned how to fish.

Isn't there an episode where we actually see Jack shaving?

Ah , i'm sure the viewers love to see a full episode of nothing but Kate , Claire , Sun all shaving their legs and stuffs and posing in slow motion. :D

They've shown plenty of recovered luggage that clearly wasn't all carry on. I think it's perfectly reasonable that they have supplies of clothes and toiletries and whatnot. They've only been there 44 days.

Hey, this IS how nerds relax.

You should see the Baker Street Irregulars trying to figure out where Watson was wounded. That's been YEARS of entertainment for them.

One of the producer guys told TV Guide that while it isn't realistic, none of the character's physical appearences is going to change all that much. I mean, after 44 days they should all be a little ripe, you know? But viewers would be turned off if Kate had more leg hair than Chewbacca.

OTH, Rousseau has been there 16 years. Her presence should be an assault to the senses by now, yet Locke was checking her out. And let's face it, the French are infamous for their looser stance on personal hygene even when they're not stranded on an island.

They've only been on the island for 33 days. He is losing weight, but it's going to take awhile to show.

French people aren't pigs, they DO bathe, some less fequently than others, but I've run across that here in America!

Having been on month long hiking trips I have to say there's is a certain point where you don't even notice the smell after a while.

My parents did however when I came back.
