Ok, Whats With This?

I was just looing at The Black Frame #2 preview and i saw on the second page, a painting. Now This is the third time i've seen it in a comic. The other two i know of are in Goon #11, page 9 and Man with the Screaming Brain #1, page 25. before i saw it again in the new BPRD, i could have sworn i saw it a third time in another comic but i can't remember what one.

Now i know there must be something behind all this, is there any signifigance to the two chess players? (Don't know the title of painting.)

I think it´s in a recent issue of Conan - Scott Allie talked about this somewhere. I can´t remember in what context.

The painting appears on the last page of Conan # 7 (Scott talks about it in the letters page of Conan # 13).

It´s a reference to a book by Arturo Pèrez-Reverte "The Flanders Panel" ("La Tabla de Flandes" - 1990). It´s a mystery about a painting by Pieter van Huys.
Scott is a big fan of Pèrez-Reverte, so I guess he has something to do with all this ;)

Last week I stumplede upon a book sale and found "The Flanders Panel". I knew right away "That´s it" - and got it for a bargain.
