The Wayner

I've seen this one listed as both an ongoing and a mini, but am not sure which it'll be. Could someone set me straight on the matter, please?

From what I've heard it was going to be approx. 50 issues. I think Azz will do a fairly complex story so i doubt it would fit in anything less than 12 or so issues.

I read an interview where Azz said it was going to be around 50 issues, too.
But, thanks for the reply! This thread was getting lonely, lol. ;)

The first issue dropped today, so *bump!*
I picked it up, but only had time to flip through it. The artwork was pretty decent from what I saw. Am looking forward to giving it a read, later.
Anyone else pick up #1?

Does this have any relevance to the manga Loveless? o.O That's what I thought of when I saw the thread.

I haven't read that, so have no idea. This Loveless is a Sergio Leone-inspired oater, if that helps any.

Picked up the first issue and it shows promise. I wasn't expecting to be blown away, and I wasn't. Solid art, Azzarello-esque dialogue that's not overwhelming and some good ol' fisticuffs and shoot 'em up action.

Pretty good, I'm a little confused on the characters' motivations, but I'm sure things will come clearer as more background on the characters come to light.
I'm onboard for the next few issues at least

Definately Azzarello's style here. Looking forward to the next issue.

I absolutely loved this! Definitely tinges of Leone running through this book's veins (though I'm more of a Corbucci man, myself). Won't take me a few issues to get into the swing of this'un. I'm ready for #2---NOW!

i dug it, had a great feel to it with the backgrounds and the positioning of the characters. dialouges a little iffy but not a big deal to me. count me in for the 1st few arcs anyways.

I picked it up.
This is the first of anything by Azzarello that I've read. I picked this up because I dig me a gritty western and this book looked to give me just what I was looking for.
And boy did it.
Plus . . .
The mule dies at the end.

I loved it. I can't wait for issue #2 and more of Azz's weird take on dark america.

I liked it. Glad there wasn't and over abundance of F-bombs and stuff. Azz said it would be like deadwood, but that show sucks. Did anyone else think that Wes Cutter looked like Clint Eastwood with long hair? I thought it was dead on.

This issue rocked. I thought the artwork was amazing. Amazing poses and angles on the characters. Im on board.
I'm with Stealth and The Adman, it seems standard for the makers of the book so far, but unfortunately, for me to stay on, it's got to get better than this to hook me in for the rest of the series.

Good assessment, except for the part about Deadwood sucking. If you're a fan of the western and you don't like Deadwood... I have no idea why you like westerns.

Definitely thought he resembled Eastwood. Matter-of-fact, there's at least one panel in the book that's a straight lift from The Outlaw Josey Wales.
Good stuff!

Dude, I love westerns. I own many of Clint's best ones, and I HATE Deadwood.
All the high praise for this and the new Jonah Hex comic, I'll have to spend a bit of cash I guess....

Really enjoyed this issue of Loveless, though I did not understand why he would just blow away his former Confederate mates....maybe it was something he did in the past to piss them off or maybe he was just a targer for being bad ass....either way....
still a good opening issue, the premise is that he will eventually head west, can't wait for that type of action...

Well I thought the first story in 100 Bullets was one of the weakest - I stopped after the first issue, until thanks to a dollar bin and the cheap trades I took the shot again.
What I'm saying is Azz takes a bit to get going, but when he does it was worth the wait.

Damn, maybe I should recheck out 100 Bullets. Because that first arc really wasn't that good. At all.

oh yeah you DEF need to re-check it. i've been reading 100 bullets by the trades and IMO it just gets better and better. seriously - you are doing yourself a disservice if you base your opinion of it on that first trade...

I always felt that way about the Sopranos - good concept, but to given to just floating with nothin happening.
Then I got the first season on dvd, and watching them in a run, you could see that things were happening and characters were changing.
It's just that week to week you forget things, and subtleties don't come across as well.
Maybe that's Deadwoods problem?

yeah maybe... i mean i dug sopranos, i dig rome (big time) but deadwood never really did it for me. and to be honest that's surprising since, of the 3, i'd have picked it to push my buttons best (if i hadn't seen any yet). oh well ;)

I got it, I dig it, I'm totally in for the long haul so long as they keep the same creative team (which Vertigo is very good about doing).
Excellent book so far, I like pretty much everything about it.

I read the first issue last night. Whoah the language. Wasn't readdy for the racial aspect, but considering the envirioment, I think it fits in. Good story. I will for sure ck out the next issue.

The first issue got really good reviews, and I am a fan of Azarello. But my problem with this book is there seems so many characters in the book, and I'm not real sure which is a flash back or not. Maybe it has to do with the art.. I dont know. But I am enjoying hex much better.
This may be a title to have to read as trade.
