I agree. Maybe my fav movie of all-time PERIOD.
In college I wrote a 15-page paper about it, breaking down it's political themes amongst other aspects.

Sleepaway Camp for me. I have not seen the other two movies of it.
I used to like Night of the Demons a lot, but now it's kind of....meh.

Has anyone ever seen Castle Freak ?
If so, is it as slow moving as everyone says ?

I sa wthe Exocrist.. By myself, when I was 13, and it was r-uncutted (Thanks to being VHS.)

and it did not scare me.

The Thing (oh yes that one.) sure as Hell gave me the creeps though.

The Exorcist is still my top fave.
Honorable mentions to The Changeling and Legend of Hell House for providing some sleepless nights in my youth. Funny how most of the movies that I remember being scared of as a kid now seem so utterly cheesy-- like The Entity and Beyond the Door.

Plus, Ghost Story had some jarring full-frontal male nudity... while the guy is falling to his death! But still, a good movie, though a little too much padding in the film. It could have used a second pass by the editor to tighten things up. Was that Fred Astaire's last screen appearance btw?

Horror is the under-rated genre and it is my personal favourite. I can never pick a straight out favourite, so I will list my top ten best horror movies.

) Friday the 13th Part 2 - Better than the original. Our first look at Jason

2) Halloween - One of the first slasher films and Michael Myers is still scary.

3) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre(Original) - When I first watched this it scared the living daylights out of me. Freaky Stuff.

4) Scarecrows - Five bank robbers, on the run with over $3 million in stolen cash, are in for it when one of them takes the cash and parachutes from their hijacked plane into a deserted cornfield. The cornfield is populated by supernatural scarecrows possessed by evil. This is quite scary.

5) Phantasm - Don Coscarelli's classic horror film where nothing is as it seems.

6) Evil Dead - Weird and spooky stuff

7) The Omen - I never liked the exorcist too much, this was creepier.

8) John Carpenter's The Thing - This film is still unparallelled, even by today's standards, for its use of striking and horrifying special fx. A great, though paranoia driven, story as well.

9) Deep Red - A great Argento film in the giallo tradition; creepy set pieces, with equally creepy murders.

10) Evil Dead 2 - side-splittingly hilarious, Raimi's masterpiece of comedy and horror still hasn't been matched. Bruce Campbell is hands down the ultimate cult hero.

Well, I don't remember the nudity, but I do remember the scenes
with the ghost.

I saw my first Japanese horror movie a month ago called Evil Dead Trap 2. It was kind of slow moving IMO.

I'm scared of lots of horror movies. Really, it just depends on which horror movie is scaring me at the moment, whether I find out about it from friends or the internet. After watching AMC's list of 100 scariest movies, I've been occasionally disturbed by such frightening cult classics like:

The Wicker Man
Cannibal Holocaust
The Blair Witch Project
Jaws
Poltergeist
Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th
(Night, Dawn, Day) of the Living Dead
Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Jeez, I feel freakin' disturbed just by naming these films! :D

A lot of people hated The Blair Witch Project(and I myself got bored with the hype), but it was genuinely creepy, in part because of how the three principles genuinly looked scared out their skins. It was what you didn't see off-camera that provided the chills in that one.

The classic, Psycho, still delivers the shivers.

The original Alien was as much horror as sci-fi. It's the sequels that turned it into an action franchise.

Yeah, Castle Freak is kinda slow paced, unfortunatelly... But still, it's quite good movie, especially if you are Stuart Gordon fan.

Anyway, my favourite horror movies are: Reanimator, From Beyond, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House Of 1000 Corpses, Evil Dead...

Does Castle Freak show the mother torturing / disfiguring
Giorgio or is it told by another character ?
I read she disfigured him more because of the way he was born and blamed him for his father leaving them.

Yesterday I came across a site that had a collection of
British horror movies which included Asylum that I want to see VERY badly,
but the site was UK based.

The Tinglers, by virtue of it being the only Vincent Price film I've ever seen. (Vincent Price trumps all) ;)

"Scream! Scream for your life!!!!"

Although I want to see 'The Abominable Dr. Phibes'.
