View Full Version : Jarvis and Aunt May
I have heard rumours that Jarvis and Aunt May are going to get together now that the Parkers are staying in the Tower. Doesn't Jarvis already have a girlfriend? I thought he was still dating the woman that he met in Inferno (issue 298 or thereabouts) I could swear that I remember seeing her in the Avengers annual (1999?) that dealt with his reactions to the return of the Avengers.
I know that the love life of Jarvis probably hasn't had too many comics devoted to it, but I was just curious!

Jarvis was indeed friends with a rather good looking woman called Glory. Mind you, these days Aunt May is a smart and attractive mature woman herself, to the delight of everyone but me, apparently. I liked her a lot better as the doting old lady who at times could be charmingly clueless.

Jarvis did indeed have a girlfriend, Glory Garsen, whom he met back in Avengers #298 and they have been together ever since. Glory has turned up a number of times over the years since then, and the most recent mention of her was in the Avengers 2001 Annual.
If the writers are planning to put Jarvis and Aunt May together romantically, then it would seem Jarvis and Glory must have broken up off-panel (and it is entirely possible the writers forgot that he already had an established girlfriend, since she didn't appear very often).

She was visiting the mansion when Jack of Hearts went kablooie. No more Glory.
Although really, she was such a minor character, was it really even worth it to write her out just so Jarvis could hook up with May, or easier to just ignore her existance, and figure Jarvis broke up with here sometime in the last four years real time? THen, when they are doing the Untold Tales of Jarvis mini, some writer can insert how Jarvis went into a self-destructive phase during the six month gap between AD and NA, and pushed Glory away from him.
An untold tales of Jarvis mini? Man, that would be cool.
Finger's crossed! :)

As long as it contains the cover to Avengers #201, with Jarvis and the vacuume cleaner...

Where it's not IMPOSSIBLE, I would find it a bit silly. May Parker is CONSIDERABLY older than Edwin and isn't exactly the kind of woman I'd think he'd go for, especially after dating Glory for so long. It'd be like he was dating his mother (who also appears to be younger than May). May is 20,000 years older than sand. ;)

Not that I'd blame you if you haven't, but have you seen the recent issues of Amazing?... May doesn't look very much like she used to.

Maybe it's just some actress with plastic surgery someone hired. Nah, no one would buy that... ;)
The point is, though, that May's got to have 20 to 30 years on Jarvis. She looked like she was over 70 for most of Spidey's run, and is probably on the other side of 80 by now. Unless she always looked a HELL of a lot older than she really was.
I haven't read Amazing, BTW. I gave up on the regular Spidey books a couple of decades ago.

I would have used this as an example of how continuity should be upheld always and not only in some cases, but then I realized the rejuvenating of characters is common practice at Marvel. Just think, in Priest's amazing Crew series, James Rhodes is shown as a handsome, rugged fortysomething man, quite unlike his old pal Tony Stark, who in the current Iron Man series sports the boyish looks of a hotshot barely out of his twenties.

Heh, well, I will have to say that keeping a "look" consistant over time and many artists is probably pretty difficult, so I'll cut 'em some slack there.
On Tony and Rhodey? I know they were always pals, and in the old days they looked of a similar age, but back then there was "adult" "child" and "old person" for the most part. Tony's in his mid-thirties. Is it inconcievable that Tony just looks a bit younger, and Rhodey's five years older, but looking harried due to the stress he's had to live through? Did they ever mention any age factor at all between the two? I honestly don't remember.

Aunt May has been de-aged... not literally but she is acting younger, looks younger and writers are even saying she's 60.
Fans have got to accept that not everyone ages at the same time, especially Aunt May.

I see a "Very Special" issue in the future. Peter finds little blue pills in May's room and goes to have a serious talk about the hazards of drug use..... "Oh, Peter. Those are just Jarvis' Viagra," May replies laughing. Peter leaves to find Logan to slit his wrists on his claws :D

Why does Spider-man wear a mask anymore? His somewhat famous model wife and his own mother live in the Avengers Tower, and somehow the paparazzi haven't even noticed? While I can understand that May is an old lady and maybe all of her friends have died, but what about Mary Jane? Doesn't she have any friends? Is it normal to not know where your friends live? Do you, the reader, have any close friends who don't know where you live? Or that would worry about you if you suddenly moved without telling them where?

Actually, as I recall, there was a storyline in one of the Spidey books just a few months ago where the paparazzi noticed it, and it led to a story about MJ having an affair with Tony Stark.
Also, at this point in time, the media is unaware that there IS a new Avengers, let alone that their headquarters is Stark Tower.
