How did Batman get from the batcave to downtown Gotham City before he had the batmobile?

Did he call a bat-taxi? Or did he just grappling-hook all the way there.

And yes, I did just use "grappling-hook" as a verb.

He drove a sedan.

And here's a pic of one of them.

Didn't Bruce also have a downtown pad.

Maybe he just changed into Batman right on the spot behind closed doors before they developed ideas for the cave and the car.

Batman: legends of the DarkKnight, the story arc was Prey.

He got around on a glider t and from the Batcave. He was working on a car at the time and finished it towards the end of the book.

Gotham public transportation is heavily underrated, and at just $80 a month for a monthly pass, Batman cheaply and conveniently got around via the subway and bus, striking fear into the hearts of subway vagrants and people who slip under the bar.

The straight answer is a) there was no Bat-Cave in the comics until after it appeared in the second movie serial, b) Bruce Wayne's early digs were an apartment, c) the name "Gotham City" wasn't used until Batman #4 in late '40 (the series was set in New York prior to that) and d) Batman had a car from his first appearance.

Well I'm talking about the modern stuff like Long Halloween, and Dark Victory. Where he has a fully functional batcave, yet no batmobile, but manages to get from the batcave to downtown Gotham City with ease.

In the Shadow of the Bat "Year One" annual, Batman made it from the cave to the city on a motorcycle, and commented to Alfred on the need for a car.

And in a few different Legends of the Dark Knight stories, Alfred would chauffeur Bruce around in a limo or towncar with tinted windows.

I'm talking post crisis DCU. Earth 2 Batman, Green Arrow and Doctor Midnight would carpool.

No, the real question is, how did Speedy get from the West Coast to the East Coast for Teen Titans meetings?
