Hellboy Forum Holiday Art Exchange 2005

How exciting! It is time for another Hellboy Forum art exchange! The timeline below may seem aggressive; however, we ran into some delays last year and I thought it would be better to wrap up the exchange before the big holidays.

Our holiday exchanges are great because they allow non-artists to particpate; see the explanation below.

Who is eligible to participate?

Registered members of Comic Book Resources Forums and participants in the Hellboy Forum.

What is the timeline?

26 Sep 2005 - Start working on your piece(s) of art now.
31 Oct 2005 - Final date for submitting a scan/picture of artwork.
06 Nov 2005 - Final date for me sending you the name and mailing information of the person to whom you are sending your art.
15 Nov 2005 - Final date for mailing your art piece to its intended recipient.
15 Nov 2005 - From this date forward please post on the Art Exchange Thread when you receive your art.

What are the guidelines and how do I sign up?

Each person wanting to participate in the exchange will FIRST need to create a Hellboy/Mignola related piece of art. After your art piece is finished (no "in progress" pieces please), please e-mail the following information to me at "petriacce at hotmail dot com":

a scan/picture of your art piece (please keep it to a width of 600 pixels or less)
your real first and last names
e-mail address
mailing address (please include any special mailing instructions if you were to receive a package from outside of your country (i.e. mark as gift, special address format, etc.))
I will send you an e-mail response acknowledging the receipt of your information and I will add your name to the participant list below.

If you are suddenly sad because you swear up and down that you just cannot possibly create anything you would want to send to someone or you are just not physically able, that is where the awesomeness of this little community really shines. Several people create multiple pieces of art to send to those individuals who aren't able to send pieces of their own but would still like to participate in the exchange and receive some fan art. So don't hesitate to participate. 'Tis a time of giving and friendship! So when you send me an e-mail with the required information above just mention that you would like to receive art only.

Likewise, if you are creating multiple pieces to send to those who are only receiving, please send me a scan/picture for each piece.

The personal information you supply will not be posted on the forum or shared with anyone other than myself and the person who is randomly selected to send you art. If you are under 18 years of age, please ask your parents if it is okay to participate before signing up. Please don't ask me for other participant's personal information even if your intentions are good. Thanks.

Please note that the Hellboy Forum is an international community and some of you will be sending your art package to another country. Please take that into consideration when estimating the financial impact of participating in the exchange.

Please post any questions you may have on this thread. Note that I will probably have to make changes to the information in this post as we go along for clarification reasons. The bottom of the post will indicate the date of the latest edit. Please review the post occasionally to be aware of any changes.

Please be kind and only post questions and other ramblings pertaining to the exchange on this thread. Thanks.

Yes,well. Since so few consider the drinking of BEER as an
art-form... guess I'll have to dust off my skills with Q-Tip bending. :)

(then again. performance art... going to the exchange-mate's house with a varity of BEERS and showing just how Hellboy would drink a stout or Abe a pale ale...hmmm) :D :D

Thats so fricken sick. Some of those are so fricken good. Its all good in my book. What if you have no artistic talent? Could I make something Mignola related?Good question. I didn't want to obligate people to create multiple pieces again but it seems that people are again willing. I edited the first post and included the bit about non-artistic people being able to participate. I hope it makes sense. I'm exhausted.

You guys are worse than the retail stores! Christmas already?Ha...ha...remember it's not holiday specific. Although, I suppose the coloring would suggest otherwise. Really it's not though.

I'd be up for creating multiple pieces again.Thank you for offering. You sir are excellent!

Me, too!Thank you too Sir E. You are also excellent!

I could break out the ol Santa hat, WCC & a 12 pack of Lone Star and have a go... But I think it would result in a very unmerry Christmas for whichever poor soul got me in the exchange :p

I finally got a few minutes to get caught up on the exchange. I have updated the list of users on the first post and it reflects everything I have received via e-mail as of this post.

I have also updated the exchange website. You can click on each thumbnail to see the larger piece of art. You can also click on each piece of art to take you back to the main page.

All of the submissions are awesome. Great art everyone!!!

Remember, the deadline is October 31 to sign up to receive and/or give art. Thanks.

can you post a link to the legend again,
Here is the inspiration:

http://www.americanfolklore.net/folktales/quebec2.html

And this is the painting I shamelessly ripped off-er-paid tribute to:

http://shop.mnhs.org/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=148&CFID=178202&CFTOKEN=13004954

According to Wikipedia, this legend is a Canadian variation of the "Wild Hunt" legend of Northern Europe and Scandanavia, better known to Hellboy fans as the story of King Vold. I didn't know this before I did the piece though! Neat coincidence.

Evening: where did you find all the cool fabrics for your piece? Some of them look hand-printed. If only the piece was coverlet-sized! ;)

Well, I don't think I would have been able to complete a coverlet sized one for the deadline. Maybe next time! :)

The fabric is from Rosie's Calico Cupboard. It's a wonderful quilting store. They have rows and rows of amazing prints; every kind you can imagine. I lose all sense of time in there!

Morna and I mailed our exchange pieces today. Sorry we didn't do it sooner. We were waiting for payday.

I received my exchange gift in the mail today from someone who is obviously more organized than I am. Thank you, ruta! It is an awesome watercolour. I love the detail you included on the bow of the canoe depicting the cryptic symbol Rasputin uttered in Seed of Destruction after Hellboy shot him in the head. Awesome! Morna recognized the symbol as soon as I un-wrapped my gift.

Maija
11-15-2005, 06:06 PM
Yaaaaay! Glad you like it, Gary.

I figured Rasputin said something very, very bad and it would make an appropriate symbol to put on the prow of a damned canoe.

11-15-2005, 09:27 PM
ruta is such a sweetey!

Along with my wonderful flying canoe painting I also got a hand made card depicting Sir Edward blowing a noise maker. In her letter to me she suggested that I get myself a bottle of Maudite, which a strong beer made in Quebec (Maudite translates to "cursed" in english). The topical thing here is that the lable depicts a large courier de boi type canoe in the sky.

I have followed her instructions carefuly and am now quite tipsy. The dern stuff is 8% achohol and comes in a 750 Ml (26 ounce) bottle!

Great Petersen..
yeah, Mickey's not to normal Mickey scale, and i can't even draw good cartoon hands, but I figured it was in keeping with what we know about Mice..

Great job Jan and thanks !

Your´re welcome.
Good to hear it made it safe and sound - and that you like it. And it was fun to return the favor from 2003.
I have also come full circle with Robert aka The Cure.

And now I´ve come full circle with Johann also.
Thanks Johann for your great gift - 3 pieces in one. The extra Hellboy sketch is my favorite, but I like the colouring on the "main-piece" too.
Now - how do I frame that one ?? :)

Again, thanks a lot Johann

MEANWHILE, SOMEWHERE OVER MY CURIO CABINET...

...hangs Morna's awesome Emperor Zombie balloon!

It's so darned cool. The skull and crown emblem are done in silver foil. I thought it was sandblasted.

I was grinning like a loon all the way home from the post office. It really made my day.

Thank you, morna!! :)

hugs...

wow that took a while. it was mailed the same day as fitz's and Jeremy's (though fitz's went special fast) weird.

I'm so glad you like it... it's kinda goofy but i still like it.

Do you really have a curio cabinet?

Do you really have a curio cabinet?

It's like a dining cabinet/hutch that came built-in with the apartment.

And Canada Post works in mysterious ways.
