Coincidentally, there were a couple of stupid people and AIDS stories that for some reason or another, I felt compelled to share. Not stupid people with AIDS... well, I guess one of them is.

Mother with HIV says HIV doesn't cause AIDS. Writes books about it. Guess what her daughter dies of?

According to some guy in South Africa, circumcision works as a vaccine against AIDS.
Just a bizarre coincidence that they hit the news on the same day.

Maybe we should stop looking for intelligent life on other planets, and try to find some here on Earth.

You hear all sorts of wacky things about AIDS coming out of Africa, so the second story doesn't surprise me in the least.
The first story, however, pisses me off in ways that words can't describe.

I remember someone (rather high-ranking, at that) once said that tears helped spread AIDS. Who was that?

It was just some urban myth, wasn't it? Heck, for a while, people thought mosquitoes could spread AIDS.

I could be wrong, but I think that was Senator/"Doctor" Bill Frist.

Nope. It was something put out there by the Bush administration's big abstinence propaganda drive. Frist just refused to say whether it was true or not, making himself look really stupid.
Frist also secretly killed a lot of cats when he was a medical student. Nice guy.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait....
So now let me get this straight. We're to assume a clothing executive who read some books on HIV and AIDS, who has no medical background that I can see, knows better than certified virologists that have been studying HIV for years.
Excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall a few dozen times.

Ever hear of "Bug Chasing"?
"Bug Chasers" are people that want to get HIV/AIDS because they either feel they deserve it, feel they're left out (because all of their friends have it), or feel that they're going to get it anyway. Or even all of those reasons put together.
Then there are "Gift Givers". "Gift Givers" are people who intentionally give HIV/AIDS to Bug Chasers.

Oh, this is sick:
"Why our child — so appreciated, so held, so carefully nurtured — and not one ignored, abused or abandoned?" she wrote. "How come what we offered was not enough to keep her here when children with far less — impatient distracted parents, a small apartment on a busy street, extended day care, Oscar Mayer Lunchables — will happily stay?"
"Why, God? Why did you take my daughter, and not some poor kid?"

It never ceases to amaze me, that talent of humans for self-deception.

I remember this. Frist was asked and he gave an answer that really didn't deny the " Tears " thing. Jon Stewart had this on his show and just said " Your a freakin Doctor for gods sake , man! "
