Quick question. Prior to WG, can someone explain to me why Atkins tolerated Batman --a vigilante---opperating in Gotham City.

Reading old Batman stories, I always got the impression that Batman (and co.) was allowed to opperate because Gordon tolerated him and looked the other way, and the cops tolerated Batman because they respected Gordon.

But I don't get why Atkins put up with a masked man running around fighting crime---and so brazenly at that.

Any theories on this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Akins tolerated him for the same reason Gordon did, because he needed him.

WG just soured him on the relationship. which was a pretty new one.

Plus, when Gordon handed over the reins, he vouched for Batman. He told Atkins to police the city the way he felt best, but Batman would always be a friend. And Gordon's word always carries a lot of weight.

So Gordon should be plenty pissed that Batman proved unworthy of that faith.

It is Akins, BTW.

I half-expected the thread to be about Jim Lee's Batman needing to go on a diet.

I think he was. Well, sort of. When Batman went to talk to him in Act 2 of WG, he told him that he felt he thought the saem way. Although there is no anger in his "voice", I felt that he was certainly disappointed in the way that Batman chose to act.
