Let's face it, Phantom came out in 1936(Batman came out in 39) where he wears a mask and lives in a cave. Wayne like Walker both are bound by family to become the mask heroes they are. Anwer this, which came first Phantom 2040 or Batman Beyond ?Terry McGinnis is now Bruce's son just like the Phantom tradition from father to son.Bob Kane has admitted that the Shadow was an influence on him but never says anything about the Phantom

Yes, the Phantom has been mentioned as an inspiration for Batman, along with the Shadow, Doc Savage and other pulp heroes.

And that revelation about Terry in JLU is nothing like the Phantom tradition.

It was clearly inspired by the Phantom, but it's hardly 'ripping it off'.

"Inspired by" is no where near the same as "ripping off." Ripping off a character would be dressing the new character in basically the same costume, giving the new character basically the same backstory and origin, and then just giving the new character a different name. THAT'S ripping off. Having a character be inspired by another character is just taking basically the same IDEA and molding it into something new.
Batman has been his own character for over 60 years.

Don't know if that was directed at me, but that was the entire point of my post.

I think Bats is closer to the Shadow, actually.
Read the pulps and you'll see Shadow has a *lot* of similarities. Even more so then in the 90's movie, too.

No, it wasn't.
The point I was making was that Batman was inspired by the Phantom and not ripping it off. If that's not what you were trying to say, then I fail to see what you were getting at in your post.

I'll have to check that out. Was Shadow around in the late 30s? I'm really bad with these things...

That's a perfect sort of time to be inspiration for Bats then. Makes you wonder if Shadow of the Bat was a little bit of homage to that :p

Well since Phantom rides a horse not a hot car the point is moot. I just never heard the Phantom listed as one of Batman's influences but I still think it's weird that Phantom 2040 was first and then Batman Beyond came out just like the Phantom & the Batman.

I remember the Phantom 2040 and I've seen a few Batman Beyond shows. Thier completely different shows set in the future. Plus it appeared the Phantom show had a conclusion where they were going while Batman Beyond was a show set up like most cartoons.
