Image Pitch go bye-bye.
The company had book "a" rejected, so they decided to ignore book "b". Book B was MY BOOK DAMNIT.
I still got paid for writing the RPG profiles for them (the check cleared, YAY!).
However, that's six issues worth of plotting I can never use.
Poot.

Sorry and nonsense.
Can't you try pitching it to Image without the association to book A? Or, if it doesn't have any Image characters in it, try pitching it to a different company?
Also, can you pitch one of my books while you're at it? I'm too lazy.

The problem is that along with owning the concept, I was plotting off a series bible. All the conflicts were already in place. I just fleshed it out. I added two whole characters (who I do intend to use one day).

Hah. I'm lazier than you. All my stuff is co-written.
Nope Callahan is the next Alan Moore.

Damn that Nope and his writing talent.
Also, I'm probably still lazier than you. Most of my books are really just proposals or semi-fleshed out bibles.

No, bless it.

HAH!
This is how Nope and I write.
An idea hits me.
I go home and write two pages worth of backstory/setup. I send it to Nope. Nope then sends back an e-mail saying it's utter crap.
No, not usually.
Usually he sends me back a few pages of script and says "Is this what we're going for"
He does 99% of the work. I design the situations, then he fleshes them out.

Can I borrow Nope for a while?

heh. I've half-heartedly written a bible. Been workin' on it since I finished my English class in high school! I guarentee you it will NEVER see the light of day, but it's fun because I can tell people that I'm a novelist.

No. You're not a novelist until you've PUBLISHED one.

What's a "bible"?
sorry your story seems stuck in "development". . but hey. . you got paid.
that's a paying job as a writer. . something to be proud of regardless of what happens to the story. :)

Basically it's when you write "something" that contains all of the elements in your novel's little "universe". You can then flesh these elements out and there you have...your novel (some will say it's more complex than that, but in a nutshell, that's what it is")
My "Bible" was called "Liberty Lost", and it details a dystopian future where the population voluntaraly gave up their freedoms in the name of security from "the enemy" (it starts with "the enemy" destroying the statue of liberty, so that's a nice metaphor for the rest of the plot.)

Huh, a thinly veiled social commentary?

Yeah, sort of. The scary part is that the initial inspiration came BEFORE 9/11 (although I put pen to paper 2 Summers ago)

It just details your main characters and their relationships with eachother and stuff. The type and level of technology present in "the world" (if appropriate) all that sort of stuff.
Sometimes it can be rather fun writing a bible :D You can get quite carried away and NOT spend any time actually writing the novel proper.

What's a "bible"?
It's a guide to the story, particularly for serialized fiction such as TV or comics.
The primary purpose is to provide other writers all the information they need to write for the series.
