it was ok. pretty much a direct continuation from 18. not as strong as the regular book though, mainly because all he did was introduce 4 new characters.

Yeah, not much except introducing 4 new characters. I couldn't remember who the smart guy was though. Anybody remember? And the nuke suit could have been way better.

I enjoyed the new characters though, particularly Arcanna - finally we have a decent explanation of how the Scarlet Witch's powers work.

He's the Lex Luthor analogue.

In the regular Squadron Supreme universe Burbank is more of a Doctor Doom type character. Calls himself Master Menace and wears a suit of armour. Apeared alot in the Squadron Supreme maxi series.

I thought Klaus Janson really made his presence felt.
I like the combination of him and Jurgens, though.

Calls himself Master Menace and wears a suit of armour. There's a bit of Doom in there, but he's clearly intended as a Pre-Crisis Luthor analogue. Gruenwald even made a point of having him be ridiculously hairy, to contrast with Lex's hairlessness.

I definitely agree. This is the first time I can remember picking up a book and noticing an inker's style.

Yep. It was okay, but I liked "Nighthawk" more.
It was nice that we got the new versions of Master Menace, Nuke, Shape and Moonglow, but that's it.
They could've also titeled it SP #19.

You never bought books inked by Bill Sienkiewicz? ;)

I assume he's this world's version of Tom Thumb (whose only superpower was his intelligence; being a little person is not a power).

I assume he's this world's version of Tom Thumb (whose only superpower was his intelligence; being a little person is not a power).Tom Thumb was the tiny guy in the bottle from the last few issues of the regular series.
Emil Burbank is Master Menace.
Emil Burbank is ment to be the Lex Luthor analogue.
(I loved how he's showing up to fight Hyperion dressed in a trench coat. Love that arrogence.)
Even his name shares parallels with Lex Luthor.
(A Latin First name and a sir name that's describes a place.)
As for Arcana Jones, I thought her SS counterpart was Arcana, their version of Zantana.

it is. wasn't she married to...whizzer was it, in squadron supreme? There was some sexual tension there, but they were both married to other people and nothing came of it.

It was alright. Not as strong as the regular series, mainly because it was all setup and Hyperion himself did basicalaly nothing.
Surprisingly, I liked Nighthawk better.

0 interest in the spin offs.
Any story worth telling, should be told in the main book.
On a related note, I'm ecstatic that the Squadron Sinister is being revived in an upcoming issue of Thunderbolts!

Yeah, The Squadron in T-Bolts has me stoked.
As for Tom Thumb, in the original SS wasn't he just a dwarf with high tech?
As slick as the General is I really thought he would just blow a hole through that guy's head after speaking with him. The others he has some sway over in one way or another but he should have identified the level of threat the good Dr was. Not that he didn't put some fear into him, but the guy is a manipulaor, not a puppet.
I dunno, not the same impact as the original, but I'll give it more time.
