THE INTIMIDATORS #1
created & co-plotted by JIM VALENTINO
written by NEIL KLEID
art & cover by MIGUEL MONTENEGRO
ATTACKING EVIL WHERE IT LIVES - AND KICKING IT WHILE IT'S DOWN! REPEATEDLY!
America's domestic strike force, the Intimidators, handle next level threats that send average heroes screaming for their mommies! When their latest mission rockets Astroman - a goody-two-shoes sixties superhero - into the twenty-first century, the government assigns him to marshal Crash, Byrn, Limit, Fetish and Firepower - a group whose morals he objects to and methods he can't condone. In a world beset by robot mafia, killer models and Republicans, Astroman struggles to make heroes out of a team to whom killing's just part of the day. They, of course, can't wait to see him try.

BERKELEY, CA -- 22 September, 2005 -- Blurring the line between heroism and nihilism; attacking evil where it lives – and kicking it while it's down! They are the Intimidators -- and they're arriving this December in a brand new monthly series from Shadowline and Image Comics!
This winter, the latest creation from the mind of ShadowHawk creator Jim Valentino explodes into comic book stores under the watchful eyes of Xeric-winning creator Neil Kleid and famed Top Cow artist Miguel Montenegro. THE INTIMIDATORS (OCT051708), an ongoing action/comedy series from Valentino's Shadowline imprint, introduces a group of heroes who prove that there is an "I" in their team. In fact, there are three of them.

Alex Segura was kind enough to interview Jim Valentino and myself about THE INTIMIDATORS over at Newsarama. Make with the clicky to find out more about the book and check out eight pages of never before seen art:

...there's a MacArthur Grant?
PatrickG
10-14-2005, 05:31 PM
It's a $100,000 grant for people with genius IQs to spend on whatever their field of art or or science is. No one can apply for it. It's awarded by secret nominators in various fields.
There's an indy comic writer (I think someone at Image) who was awarded the grant recently.

BTW, Neil...
I got a question.
You've been pimping this preview all over the internet. I must've read it a hundred times.
And aside from wishing that Crash would get a bikini wax, I have to say that this preview is awfully deceptive in terms of the series premise, isn't it?
The real *FUN* (and concept) of the book looks like it's going to be goody-two-shoes Astroman getting saddled with these "bad boys" (and girl). Your preview only gives us a glimpse of half that and while I firmly believe in saving goodies for the paying customers, my feeling is that a lot of people who see this won't realize what the high concept of the book is if they gravitate towards the pictures like I tend to do.

So what youre saying is you don't think what we've shown is fun?
I think the whole series is fun - sure there are parts that are straight superhero action, and sure there are parts that are poking fun at the goody two shoes, but the entire comic is FUN. This preview offers a glimpse at the team, the overall feel of the book and yes - even deliberately offensive visuals like Crash's ah, pubic area (which everyone seems to be focusing on) were created to offer the overall tone of the book. Sure - the high concept is Astroman and the Intimidators, and youre going to see a lot of that in the book, but we didn't show them interacting in this preview for a reason - and for that, youll have to pick up issue #1 on December 28th

You're thinking of novelist Jonathan Lethem, who'll be doing the new OMEGA THE UNKNOWN series for Marvel.
(Kleid, you know I'm on board.)

Oh. No. I'm not saying it isn't fun looking, Neil.
I'm just saying that the really fun stuff should be the interaction between Astroman and the team.
You're riffing on both sides, aren't you?

Of course we are! But like i said, there's a reason you dont see that in the preview for issue #1.
Let me reiterate that: "you dont see that in the preview for issue #1."
